Bonding Epoxy

ASTM C881-10 Type I, II, IV & V Grade 3 Class C AASHTO M235

Multiple DOT Listings

(See ATC website for current list of Department of Transportation Approvals throughout the

United States and Canada)

Installation & Coverage: See Manufacturer’s Printed Installa-tion Instructions (MPII) available within this Technical Data Sheet (TDS). Due to occasional updates and revisions, always verify that you are using the most current version of the MPII. In order to achieve maximum results, proper installation is impera-tive. Clean Up: Always wear appropriate protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves during cleanup. Clean un-cured materials from tools and equipment with mild solvent. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. Limitations & Warnings: Do not thin with solvents, as this may inhibit proper curing Not recommended for any application where there may be a

sustained tensile load, including overhead applications Safety: Please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for UL-TRABOND 2300. Call ATC for more information at 1-800-892-1880. Specification: The bonding agent shall be a two compo-nent, 1:1 mix ratio epoxy system supplied in pre-measured con-tainers. The adhesive must meet the requirements of C881-14 specification for Type I, II, IV, and V, Grade 3 Class C. When cured 7 days and at a temperature of 75 °F (24 °C), the bonding agent shall have a compressive strength of 10,220 psi (70.5 MPa) per ASTM D695 and a tensile strength of 3,316 psi (22.9 MPa) per ASTM D638. The bonding agent shall be ULTRA-BOND 2300 from Adhesives Technology Corp., Pompano Beach, Florida.

ULTRABOND® 2300 is a high strength, non-sag, multi-purpose bonding agent, which can be used in temperatures between 60 °F and 110 °F (16 °C and 43 °C).

Bonding Epoxy

Surface Preparation

Concrete must be clean and profiled or textured. All dirt, oil, debris, wax, grease or dust must be removed. Remove any loose concrete or rocks from the surface area where the application of the bonding adhesive will be applied. New concrete must be a minimum of 28 days old. Prepare the surface mechanically using a scarifier, shotblaster, bushhammer or other equipment that will give the surface

the profile needed for the application. A roughened surface is imperative to good adhesion. Surfaces may be damp (or dry) however there should be no standing water.

Mixing Instructions

NOTE: Thoroughly stir each component separately before mixing together.

1. Pour the total contents of Part “B” (hardener) into the Part “A” pail (resin) OR proportion equal parts by volume of both Part “A” and Part “B” into a clean pail. Be sure that the components are mixed at an exact 1:1 ratio by volume.

2. Mix thoroughly with a low speed drill (400 – 600 rpm) with a Jiffy mixing paddle or similar. Carefully scrape the sides and the bottom of the container while mixing. Keep the paddle below the surface of the material to avoid entrapping air. Proper mixing will take at least 3 minutes and when well mixed the material will be free of streaks or lumps.

3. Mix only the amount of material that can be used before the pot life expires.

Bonding fresh concrete to hardened concrete: Using a brush or roller, apply an even coat of the mixed ULTRABOND 2300 epoxy to the clean and prepared concrete surface. While the epoxy is still tacky, place fresh concrete over the top of the mixed epoxy.

Bonding hardened concrete to hardened concrete: Using a brush or roller, apply an even coat of the mixed ULTRA-

BOND 2300 epoxy to both concrete surfaces and be sure to fill all gaps between the mating concrete surfaces. Spall Repair Preparation: Cut into the sound concrete using a grinder with a 4-1/2 diamond blade or tuck point diamond

grinding wheel and prepare the area to be repaired as noted above under Surface Preparation. Pour mixed neat ULTRA-BOND 2300 into the repair area and smooth out with a trowel to create a smooth surface.

This product contains titanium dioxide which IARC has classified as a Group 2B carcinogen (possibly carcinogenic to humans). Evidence is based on sufficient animal testing as a result of long-term inhalation at high concentrations of respirable amounts of titanium dioxide. Because this product is in liquid or paste form, it does not pose a dust hazard; therefore, this classification is not relevant. (Note: sanding of this product will create a possible dust hazard).

This product contains crystalline silica (quarts sand). IARC has classified crystalline silica as a Group 1 carcinogen. Both IARC and NTP consider silica as a known human carcinogen. Evidence is based on the chronic and long-term exposure workers have had to respirable sized crystalline silica dust particles. Because this product is in liquid or paste form, it does not pose a dust hazard; therefore, this classification is not relevant. (Note: sanding of this product will create a possible silica dust hazard)
