Brockport police reportBetween May 6 and May 12, Brockport Police

handled 360 calls for service (7,228 calls to date in 2020). Police were dispatched to two family troubles, one motor vehicle accident, four harassment/fight/as-saults, completed 191 special attentions that include, but are not limited to, house checks, business checks, bike patrol, etc., and conducted 13 traffic stops. The above calls do not represent all calls and not all calls are found to be as dispatched once on scene.

Community Message:When you go home for the night and begin your “end of the day” routine, remember to make sure to secure your vehicles. It takes less than a minute to secure your vehicles, and it takes just that long for items in your car to be stolen. Many times, a criminal is stopped in their tracks when they come across a locked vehicle. With this, it is also important to not leave any items of value in plain sight. When a GPS, laptop, money, etc. are left in plain sight, a locked door may not stop a would-be criminal. Past locking your doors, a motion sensor light or visible cameras can be installed so that in case items are stolen, police can review the camera footage and have a higher probability of locating your items. The Brockport Police continue to do frequent patrols through all neighborhoods at all hours of the day to locate any suspicious activity.

Marianne Swan, of Spencerport, received a 2020 Academic Achievement Award from SUNY Oneonta.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional aca-demic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

The Geography and Environmental Sustainability department nominated Swan for this award.

Thomas Devine, of Brockport, has earned a Bach-elor of Arts, Educational Studies degree from Western Governors University.

Silas Egenlauf, of Spencerport, has been awarded a $2,487 “Floyd and Eleanor Rose Endowed Scholar-ship” to attend Alfred State. He is slated to graduate in 2020 from Spencerport High School and intends to enroll in the building trades: building construction (AOS) program.

The “Floyd and Eleanor Rose Endowed Scholarship” is awarded to an academically talented student from Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania enroll-ing in either the agricultural technology or building trades: building construction programs. The student must have an 85 or better high school average through their junior year to be considered.
