OBJECTIVES

Review how to put on HRMsMust be on and working within first 5 minutes of class (according to R.O.L. grade report)

Heart Relay ActivityReview the pathway blood flows through in the heartTeams must retrieve and assemble their color coded heartPROCEDURES

Students are able to get their HRM on and working within 5 minutesStudents are able to match up their heart chamber pieces to their templateStudents will record their average HR and indicate which fitness zone/level their average fell withinASSESSMENT or EVALUATION

Review the order in which blood flows through the heart(in connection with the colored templates) = L Atrium L Ventricle out the ventricular artery to the lungs where it picks up oxygen (is now red) back into the heart via the R Atrium R Ventricle up through the Aortic Arch and out into our limbs.Discuss why it is important to concentrate on exercising our hearts decreases risk of heart disease, helps to keep our body healthy so that we can play longer, etc.

ENRICHMENT

MATERIALS: Heart rate monitor cart, bottle of plain water, electrode gel, HRM cleaner and paper towels, 5 copies of the heart (colored with the blood flow pattern), 5 different colored sets of the heart (purple, orange, etc. cut into pieces), 10 hula hoops (5 must match the same 5 colors used for the cut up sets of the heart), clipboards and pencils for recording scores at the end of classRESOURCES: Polar USA: http://www.healthfirstusa.com/ Wisconsins Model Academic Standards for Physical Education, Wisconsin DPI
