Plagiarism: when it happens to you!
Writing skills are important Essays one of the best tools Got 5 of exactly the same essays in 2004
2 with references to the plagiarized source
2 without any references 1 completely translated to Afrikaans
Confronted students and got varied response 2 with reference felt vindicated 2 without did not know why the fuss 1 who translated was extremely agitated
Referred them to SU library website with info
Google the topic and got a hit on Wikipedia

Wikipedia Bigger classes will be difficult to manage Extremely competitive environment Could be technically difficult for some students
Wiki environment Why not start a commonly available SU Wiki farm? Could be good learning environment (open of closed?) Generic skill improvement (across disciplines); not just MS packages!!
Plagiarism Best tool probably turnitin (also provide peer review aspect) Preferred tool is students themselves (and other students) Bigger question of academic integrity; do we need a campaign on campus?
