IntroductionThis task will involve me looking at several different magazine front covers which I find of particular interest to me. I will be focusing on looking at magazines which surround the topic of film so I can gain inspiration from front covers which are apart of the genre I’m trying to replicate. I will be on the look out for unique and eye catching styles and designs choices from different magazines as this will help me develop what I want to achieve with my own style.

I like this poster from several aspects. Firstly, the colour scheme for this is simple but quite effective with only three main colours: blue white and red with subtle accents of gold. This simple style makes the bolder colours jump out from the more tame background which would make it more eye-catching to the general consumer. This simple style with minimal colours is inspirational to me as it creates lots of intrigue in the consumer and creates a level of professional quality and class which I will try to recreate. Other different design choices which I thought was interesting was the blocks of texts which are at a 3d perspective. This brings increased focus onto the main anchor image which is of a famous actor. This increased focus will boost sales as people will immediately notice the actor.

I’m quite inspired by this front cover due to its nature to be essentially conventional but include elements of originality. Firstly, everything is quite typical and uniform when compared to other magazines: a main anchorage in the middle of the magazine which is covering the magazine title which is in big bold letters. It also features buzzwords such as ‘exclusive’ and ‘plus’ and lots of cover lines. But the things that I find very interesting and unique, is how the thumbnails are featured on the top of the magazine; it even take precedence over the skyline and title. The reason for this I believe is how people generally scan magazine from top to bottom and seeing this popular film franchises featured on the top would make a person instantly aware of what is featured so they’re more inclined in noticing the magazine, and for this reason I’m quite inspired but this magazine front cover.

ConclusionAfter looking at several different covers made by different film magazine producers, I have gained inspiration from different aspects on their design. I like the use of a simple and bold colour scheme, which doesn’t feature anymore than 4 different colours. I like how the magazine title is featured in bold but is covered by the main anchorage, which gives this the most presence. In terms of specific things, which I find quite inspiring which I might implement into my own magazine cover is having a strip of thumbnails. This task has helped me have a better understanding of the conventions in magazine front covers and which one I thing are particularly interesting which I will try to utilise in my own.
