MMI Academy, formally known as Modern Montessori Training Centre (MMTC) and MMI Business School (these two Schools were merged to form MMI Academy), is the leading teacher-training institution in Singapore specializing in early childhood education. MMI Academy is the training arm of the Modern Montessori International Group, which operates Montessori pre-school centres throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

MMTC was set up in 1989 to oversee the introduction and, subsequently, management of the hugely popular Diploma in Montessori Method of Education (2½ - 6 Years) (DMT) in Singapore. DMT is a proprietary course of MMI London and MMTC served as the master franchisee of the programme in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Underlining its quality, DMT is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and Open & Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC) of the U.K. Thousands of students have graduated from DMT since its inception in Singapore in 1989 and most of them have gone on to become professionals in the field of early childhood education.

MMTC had also grown beyond the shores of Singapore, overseeing teacher-training operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, India and Sri Lanka. Currently, MMI Academy occupies the entire MMI Building 2 in city area that boasts avant-garde décor and facilities that includes Biometric thumb print, wireless, library with broadband access, roof top garden for gathering etc). Students can look forward to

beautiful classroom with exceptional interior design and a breathtaking view of the Central Business District. ● COURSE FEE

Please refer to MMIA Standard Student Contract for the amount of course fees payable. All

course fees must be paid at stipulated dates stated in the Standard Student Contract. In an event where the student defaults any payment, MMIA reserves the rights to the following:

� Additional administrative charge � Debar student from attending any future lessons � Withhold all assignments, score grades and certificate/transcript.

♦ Miscellaneous Fee refers to any non-standard fees which the student will pay only when

necessary or applicable. Such fees are normally collected on an ad-hoc basis by the PEI

when the need arises.

The mode of instruction is given in English in the form of lectures, discussion, role playing, video presentation, observation and practice session.

● REFUND POLICY MMIA will follow strictly Clause 2 (version 3.0) of the standard student contract on refund matter.

Clause 2.1 - Refund for Withdrawal Due to Non-Delivery of Course: Should the student decide to withdraw, the Academy will refund entire

Course Fees and Miscellaneous Fees already paid within seven (7) working days of the student’s notice.

Clause 2.2 - Refund for Withdrawal Due to Other Reasons: The Academy shall refund within seven (7) working days an amount based on

the table in Schedule D.

Clause 2.3 - Refund During Cooling-Off Period: The Academy will refund the highest percentage (stated in Schedule D) within

seven (7) working days.

● TRANSFER POLICY (i) Transfer within MMIA to a different course(s)

All requests for course transfer must be made in writing. All requests must be supported with documentary evidence. The student who transfers from one Course to another in MMIA will be deemed to have withdrawn from the first Course. This request shall be subject to MMIA refund Policy, unless otherwise agreed between MMIA and the Student. International students will need to re-apply for their Student Pass.

Transfer procedures: - Coordinator will arrange for a counseling session with the student within 7 working days

upon receipt of written request. - The institute will provide a written reply to student within a maximum of 28 days. - If transfer is approved, student will receive a refund cheque (if applicable) from Accounts

Department within 7 days. - Student may be subjected to purchase of FPS, Medical Insurance and the signing of new

Student Contract. A transfer fee of $S214.00 is payable.

(ii) Transfer out of MMIA to another School/Institute

Students who request to transfer out of MMIA to another School / Institute shall be deemed as withdrawing from MMIA. This request shall be subject to MMIA Refund Policy.

Withdrawal procedures: - Coordinator will arrange for a counseling session with the student within 7 working days

upon receipt of written request. - The institute will provide a written reply to student within a maximum of 28 days. - If transfer is approved, student will receive a refund cheque (if applicable) from Accounts

Department within seven (7) working days.

The student must settle any outstanding liabilities with MMIA within 2 weeks, if any.

For International students, the institute will cancel the student pass as required by ICA.

● WITHDRAWAL POLICY

(i) Withdrawal from Student All requests for withdrawal must be made in writing. All requests must be supported with documentary evidence. This request shall be subject to MMIA Refund Policy. The institute will acknowledge receipt of the withdrawal request.

For international students, the student shall deliver to MMIA within 7 days of the student ceasing to be a student of MMIA, the passport and the student’s pass for cancellation with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Withdrawal procedures: - The student will receive a refund cheque (if applicable) from Accounts Department within

seven (7) working days. - Coordinator will arrange for a counseling session with the student within seven (7) working

days upon receipt of written request. - The institute will provide a written reply to student within a maximum of 28 days. The student must settle any outstanding liabilities with MMIA within 2 weeks, if any.

(ii) Enforce Withdrawal

Should student be forced to withdraw from a programme due to the following reason:

� Breaking of Singapore Law

� Failure to meet the minimum attendance rate � Continual breaking of Academy’s rules � Behavioral problems � Failure to comply with Schedule 2.1 (“Course Fees”) of the Student Contract (Clause

1.11) or � Any other issues that necessitate the Academy to terminate

The student will automatically lose the privilege to request for any refund. The Student Pass for foreign students will be cancelled.

● DEFERMENT POLICY

All requests for course deferment must be made in writing. All requests must be supported with documentary evidence. For students who are paying their course fees via installments has to first settle the pro-rated course fee for the duration they have attended. They will continue with the installment payments when they resume their course within the allowed one-year deferment period.

In the event that students who deferment has been approved and withdraw from the subsequent/next intake, MMIA Refund Policy will be applicable. International students who are approved for deferment, the institute will cancel the student pass as required by ICA.

Approval for deferment is at the sole discretion of the MMIA. The decision of the MMIA is final.

Deferment procedures:

- Coordinator will arrange for a counseling session with the student within 7 working days upon receipt of written request.

- The institute will provide a written reply to student within a maximum of 28 days. - For students who are paying their course fees via installments has to first settle the pro-rated

course fee for the duration they have attended. - Students will continue to pay the balanced of the fee when they resume their studies within

the one (1) year period. - Student may be subjected to purchase of FPS, Medical Insurance and the signing of new

Student Contract.

● CONFIDENTIALITY Students’ personal information and undertakings are solely for the purpose of course completion and will be kept in strict confidence.

● STANDARD STUDENT CONTRACT

MMIA follows the CPE’s Standard Student Contract. Students are required to enter into the

Standard Student Contract which is legally binding and ensures the rights of the Student and MMIA are protected. It covers (but not limited) to the following details:

� Course details – including course title, pre-requisites, qualification awarded, course duration

� Full details of all fees – tuition and non-tuition fees, additional fees and

deposit � Participation in the Fee Protection Scheme � Refund policies � Dispute resolution

All Students must enter into the Student Contract.

● FEE PROTECTION SCHEME

The Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) serves to protect students’ fees in the event the Academy is unable to continue operating due to insolvency, and/or regulatory closure. MMIA provides a Student Tuition Fee Insurance from Lonpac Insurance Bhd which is an approved provider by

CPE (www.cpe.gov.sg).

● MEDICAL INSURANCE

MMI provides a medical insurance from AXA Insurance which minimally provide an annual coverage limit of not less than S$20,000 per student, and/or at least a B2 ward in government

and restructured hospitals and 24 hours coverage in Singapore and overseas (if a student is involved in school-related activities) throughout the course duration.

● FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (WITH STUDENT PASS APPLICATION)

MMIA application of Student Pass to Immigration Checkpoint and

Authority (ICA) ICA notification of Student Pass status to MMIA approximately after

4 to 6 weeks

MMIA will mail the In-Principal Approval Letter and MMIA Acceptance Letter to successful student applicant.

Notification of New Student Orientation Schedule (For students from VISA required countries are required to bring

along the In-Principal Approval Letter and Acceptance Letter for

application of VISA into Singapore.

● STUDENT PASS APPLICATION PROCESS Foreign Students may send in the Application Form after understanding the course pre-requisite and other information via the MMIA website, e-mail or in-house Marketing Executive. All Examinations transcripts of education qualification and other supporting documents must be submitted and documents in other language must be translated and certified. A non-refundable application fee is applicable. Upon acceptance and approval of student’s application by MMIA, a Letter of Offer or Conditional Letter of Offer (for students who require

student pass) is sent to the student. Students will have to send the Letter of Acceptance (to the Conditional Letter of Offer), For students who require the Student Pass(s), MMIA will then proceed to apply the student pass at the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA). The student will be notified of the application outcome. Upon receipt of the In-Principal Approval Letter for the

Student Pass from ICA, MMIA will send an official Letter of Offer and Single Journey VISA (if applicable), which is required upon the student's arrival in Singapore.

● DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR STUDENT PASS APPLICATION

MMIA provides assistance to International Students to apply for Student Pass with Immigration Checkpoint and Authority (ICA). Prospective candidates are to submit the following documents to MMIA 2 months prior to before course commencement of course:

� 2 copies of Form 16, Form V39S & Form V36 (completed and signed) � 4 recent passport sized photographs (White background only) � Birth certificate (photocopy) � Certified copies of highest educational certificates and transcripts � Personal particular pages of your travel document (photocopy)

� 1 copy of Form V36A duly completed and signed by the Academy � Documentary proof of financial ability (e.g. Saving Accounts) if you require an

entry visa to Singapore Additional documents are also required if one of your parents/ step-parents is a Singapore

Citizen/ Permanent Resident. You will need the following documents:

� Parent’s/ Step Parent’s official marriage certificate/ divorce certificate and your custody papers (photocopied)

� Parent’s/ Step-Parent’s highest educational certificate (photocopied) � Parent’s/ Step-Parent’s letter of employment or copy of Business Registration

certificate if parent is self- employed � Parent’s/ Step-Parent’s monthly CPF contribution for the past 12 months

Parent’s/ Step-Parent’s Income Tax Assessment Notices for the past 3 years (photocopy)

Additional documents are also required if you are married to a Singaporean citizen or Singapore PR:

� Spouse’s official marriage certificate/ divorce certificate (photocopy) � Spouse’s highest educational certificates (photocopy)

● PAYMENT AND COLLECTION

You are required to collect your Student’s Pass in person at the Visitor Services Centre of the ICA with your original documents. There will be a processing fee of S$30.00 and S$60.00 for the Student Pass Issuance. An additional fee of S$30.00 will be required should you need a

visa to enter the country.

● COMPLIANCE WITH STUDENT PASS’S REQUIREMENT

� MMIA shall comply with the provisions as stated in the Immigration Act and Regulations or any other law and regulations in force in Singapore, and the conditions and requirements as stated in the In-Principal Approval letter.

� MMIA undertakes the responsibility to monitor your attendance and performance constantly. You shall ensure that your percentage of attendance is not less than 90% in any month of the course without any valid

reason and you have not failed to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without any valid reason.

� You shall not engage in any form of employment paid or unpaid, or in any business, profession or occupation in Singapore during the validity of your Student Pass.

� You shall not enter or be retained as a student in any other School(s) or

course(s) other than indicated on the Student’s Pass.

� You shall surrender your Student Pass for cancellation within 7 days of the date of cessation or termination of your studies.

● STUDENT PASS’S RENEWAL

If you need to renew your Student’s Pass in order to continue the same course, you have to submit your renewal application two weeks before the expiry of your current Student’s Pass.

You will need the following documents:

� 2 copies of Form 16 and Form V39S (duly completed and signed by relevant

parties and if applicable) and Form 39Q (if applicable) � Your travel document, Student’s Pass card, visit pass and disembarkment/

embarkment (green) card. � Local Sponsor’s identity card, if applicable � 1 copy of Form V36A (signed and completed by the Academy) or

Academy’s Letter of Acceptance

● COMPLETION OF COURSE

International students are to surrender their Student's Passes for cancellation within 7 days from the date of cessation or termination or completion of their study. The following documents are to be produced:

� A letter from the student/local sponsor about the cancellation of the Student's Pass

� Confirmed ticket � Applicant's valid travel document � Disembarkation/Embarkation Card � Student Pass � Upon completion of your course, please seek advice from your respective

Course Coordinator for progression and graduation opportunities.

● FLIGHT TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS Students are to make flight travel arrangements to Singapore upon receiving the Conditional

Letter of Offer. Ensure status of Student Pass before confirming departure.

● MONEY

Students should travel to Singapore with about US$2,000 (S$2500.00). This will help in the payment of down payment for accommodation and living expenses for about 2 weeks. Money-changing services are available at the Airport and at other approved money

changers in the city. Student should also have the means to pay for the first payment of the Course Fees according to the Payment Schedule.

● MEDICAL SCREENING

Students will receive the original Approved-In-Principle Letter from ICA and proceed for

Medical Screening at a clinic. Estimated cost of S$60 is to be paid by Student. Student will then obtain the Medical Report for submission to ICA in exchange for the Student Pass. Students need approximately 3 working days for the whole process.

● STUDENT PASS PROCESSING AT ICA

Documents to be produced include: � Valid passport for minimum of 6 months � Birth Certificate

� Educational Certificates and Result Transcripts � Conditional Letter of Offer from MMIA � Copy of Approved-in-Principle Letter from ICA � Proof of Fixed Deposit � Proof of Parents’ Occupations � Security Deposits

Currently, international students (if applicable) furnish security deposits (SD) in the form of a Banker’s Guarantee (BG), Cashier’s order or NETs. With effect from 1st April 2013, all international students who are required to furnish SD will have to do so via BG only. This is to facilitate the prompt refund of the SD to the students upon completion of their studies. Those who fail to meet this requirement will not be able to complete

the formalities for the issuance of a Student’s Pass (STP) at ICA, even if they have been issued with the In-Principle Approval for the grant of a STP. This new requirement will not be applicable for international students who renew their Student Pass to continue their education for the same course in the same school.

● ARRIVAL PROCESSING BY MMIA

MMIA will process student’s admission and payments including verifying all original documents. Payment should be paid in accordance to the Schedule of Payment for the Course.

MMIA is situated in the town area of Singapore. It can be easily accessed by trains or buses.

Bus services include: Bus 51, 61, 63, 80, 124, 145, 166, 174, 174E and 197. The nearest MRT

• LEARNING FACILITIES

There are a total of 5 classrooms with a total capacity of 170 students at any one time. The lecture room is equipped with TV/DVD/VCD, LCD/overhead projectors and photo slide projector. Other equipment includes digital camera, video cassette players, Montessori materials and wireless access to internet.

Our library is well-equipped and available to aid students in their coursework. Other facilities

include broadband access.

● CODE OF CONDUCT

(i) Attendance

� Please ensure that your name is printed in attendance lists, certificate,

transcripts, and assignments are according to passport or travel document. � You are to sign in every lesson and your signature must be consistent

throughout the course. � If you are on medical leave, kindly submit a photocopy of the MC to the

Administrative Office within 1 week from the absent date. � Non-Student Pass Holders, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.

� For Student Pass Holders, a minimum of 90% attendance is required (as per

ICA regulation)

� If Student Pass Holders do not fulfilled the minimum 90% attendance

requirement, students will be barred for taking their Examination(s), and their pass(s) may be revoked.

(ii) Dress Code

� Students are required to dress appropriately for classes.

MMI Academy Pte Ltd recognizes the right of any student to seek redresses for grievance in connection with his/her course and its assessments and has instituted the following procedure to be followed in such a case:

� The student may state the grievance in writing to the Academic Director, 72

South Bridge Road Singapore 058702. The Academic Director will promptly acknowledge the receipt of the complaint.

� The Academic Director will conduct an investigation with regard to the issue raised by the student. The student may have to give evidence in the process of investigation.

� The student will be regularly updated on the investigation. The

findings/conclusion of the investigation will be communicated to the student personally.

� MMIA undertakes to resolve any grievance/dispute within a period of 21 working days from date of receipt of grievance/complain.

� If the student is not satisfied with the findings/conclusion at the end of 21 working days, the dispute will be referred to Singapore Mediation Centre or

Singapore Institute of Arbitrators through CPE Student Services Centre for mediation. MMIA and the student may agree to adhere to guidelines prescribed by CPE to resolve their dispute.

� Both parties hereby acknowledge that any matters as regards to any grievance/dispute must be kept confidential as far as possible and must not

be used as a means of defamation.

Appeal is applicable only if the student obtained a fail mark for their assessments. Student need to fill up an ‘Appeal Form’ and submit to the Academy. Appeal Form must be submitted to the Academy within 14 days from the release of the results.

For programmes awarded by MMI Academy, the HOD/Lecturers in charge of the programme will review the appeal request and submit recommendations to the Academic Director. The approving authority for appeals on graded assignments is the Academic Director and for assessments will be the Examination Board. All appeals for in-house programmes will be reverted to students within 4 weeks from date of receipt of request. The decision of the approving authorities is final.

For Distance Learning programmes of MMI Academy, upon receiving the Appeal Request from student, MMI Academy will arrange for a discussion session with the student involved and assist to put up the Appeal Request (where applicable) to the Distance Learning Programme Body. The Academy will assist to monitor the results of the appeal and inform the student accordingly. All appeals for Distance Learning Programmes will be reverted to students within 8 weeks from the date of request.

� An international student can only attend the course after obtaining the approval of the Student’s Pass given by ICA.

� All international students must not fail to attend less than 90% in any month of the

course without any valid reason.

� An international student must not be retained as a student in any other education organization/s or course/s other than indicated in the Student’s Pass.

� An international student must not remain in Singapore after the expiry of the Student’s Pass.

� An international student must surrender the Student’s Pass for cancellation within seven days from the date of cessation or termination of his/her studies or courses.

� An international student must understand that the purpose of his/her stay is solely for social visit/study only and he/she shall not indulge in any activity, which is inconsistent with the purpose for which the Student’s Pass has been issued.

� An international student shall not engage in any form of employment paid or unpaid,

or in any business, profession or occupation, or in any activity which in the opinion of the Controller of Immigration, is detrimental to the security, reputation and well-being of Singapore.

� An International student must adhere to the Student Rules & Regulations.
