StudentOnLine is the interface where you can view and amend your personal and

contact details, re-enrol, and vary your enrolment.

Preparation Checklist

To re-enrol or vary your enrolment online, we recommend that you:

Consult the La Trobe University Handbook to help you choose your units and any

other optional components offered by your course (majors or other options).

Prepare a list of units you wish to enrol in for the current calendar year using the

information available from the Handbook;

Ensure you have your University user name and password readily available so

that you can log in to StudentOnLine;

Refer to the steps outlined in the StudentOnLine Enrolment Guide (over leaf); and

Use the StudentOnLine online help to assist you.

Please note: you cannot enrol in units unless you have confirmed your citizenship,

cultural, disability, parent/guardian details and agreed to the Institution’s latest terms

and conditions. You will be required to reconfirm these details prior to re-enrolment

and periodically throughout your time with La Trobe University.

Step 1 – Log in to StudentOnLine

From the La Trobe University Home Page at http://www.latrobe.edu.au select Current Students.

From the Students page, select StudentOnLine from the Student tools options and log in.

Enrolling in a Unit

Step 2 – Navigate to My Enrolment tab

From the tab options select My Enrolment. If only one course is available, the Course Details:

Overview page will open as the default page. This page displays your study plan. Effectively the

components (units and unit sets) for your selected course are displayed in a tree structure, including

any core and optional units and unit sets.

Note: If you have more than one course listed, you will need to select the relevant course and click

on the link view my selected Course details.

Units begin life with a

Planned status. You must

follow the hyperlinks to select

an availability (when, where

and how the unit is available)

and then enrol.

The course displays a status

of  Admitted when you are

actively enrolled.

 An Option line is displayed where you are

required to make a choice. The choice

may include a selection of unit(s) from a

defined list or perhaps any unit from a

particular year level or faculty.

The Type column

lists whether the

study package is

core (mandatory)

or an option.

The Extra Detail column

provides instructions to

you about the

requirement.

Core units display

with their unit code

and title displayed.

Step 3 – Selecting a Core Unit

From the Course Details: Overview screen, click on the Enrol in a unit

hyperlink.

The Course Details page will be displayed. Note: the same page can also be accessed via

the Manage Enrolment menu item.

To Enrol in units select from the available dropdown options the:

• Year • Study Period

• Campus

Once you have selected from the available dropdown options, click on the Search button to

commence the search for units that can be selected for enrolment. At this stage you have

simply selected these units in a ‘shopping cart,’ you have not yet enrolled in these units.

Step 4 – Selecting and Enrol ling in an Option

 An option line contains choices that you must make to satisfy your course requirements. If you

have options available for enrolment, they will be listed on this page. Click on More Details and/or 

Requisite Information hyperlinks to view further details of the unit of study.

When you have found an option you wish to enrol in, click on the link 'Choose'.

Step 4 – Selecting and Enrol ling in an Opt ion (continued)

The Enrolment: Choose Option page will be displayed. This page contains a search box.

NOTE:You cannot enrol in a unit with a

red cross in the ' Availabi li ties'

column. Choose a unit that does

not have a red cross.

Enrolling in a Unit

Having entered the relevant search criterion, click on 'Search'.

 A list of available units that you can select to enrol in will be displayed. You can only select one unit

at a time.

When searching for a unit you have three options:

1. if you know the unit code of the unit you wish to

enrol in, you can type the unit code into the

Option box and then click 'Search ';

2. if you know the first three letters of the unit code

you can use the % as a wild card to help you

narrow down your search, for example a first

year history unit may be written HIS1%; or 

3. the select option rule may already be filled in, it

may look like: ___1% this will search for any unit

in first year.

Having selected the unit click on Save unit onto my course plan.

The Course Details (your Course Plan) page will be displayed. You can now enrol in your selected

unit, which will be shaded in blue.

Step 6 - Confirm Enrolment

Having selected the units you would like to enrol in, together with the year, study period and

campus, you now need to confirm the enrolment. Once you have completed your selections,

please select the Enrol checkbox to enrol in an available unit.

Step 5 – Select Availability (if applicable)

Depending on the course and unit settings, you may be able to select an availabili ty or a default

may be applied which you cannot change.

Once an availability has been selected, you need to select the enrol check box to proceed.

Enrolling in a Unit

Step 6 – Confi rm Enrolment (continued)

The Enrolment Shopping Cart page will be displayed. This page lists all units you areabout to enrol in. If the units are correct click on the link confirm enrolment at the bottom

of the page.

 A green tick will be displayed to indicate that your enrolment has been successful. You

can now go to Current Enrolment and view all of your enrolled units.

Step 7 – View Current Enrolment

To view your current enrolment, select Current Enrolment

from the menu.

The Current Enrolments: Enrolment Details pages will be displayed.

To request confirmation of your enrolment, select the Email my Enrolment

 Advice option. This emails the enrolment advice to your La Trobe University

email address.

HINT: If a unit has a prerequisite you will need to successfully complete that before

you can enrol in the unit. If the unit has a co-requisite, you will need to enrol in that

unit as well.

Varying Enrolment: Withdrawing from Units

Note: If you have more than one course listed, you will first need to select

the course from which you wish to withdraw a unit before navigating to the

Course Details: Overview page.

Please note: before you withdraw from a unit, it is important you consult with a Faculty course

adviser and be aware of the census dates and the KN grade dates. International students need to

maintain a full time load so should consult with La Trobe International before withdrawing from any

units.

The Unit Withdrawal: Choose Units page will be displayed. This page lists all the units you are

currently enrolled in. Select the unit you wish to withdraw from by clicking in the checkbox next to

the unit. Then click on the link 'withdraw from the selected units'.

• If a unit you plan to withdraw from is a prerequisite to another enrolled unit, you will also need

to withdraw from the other unit.

• If you are having difficulties withdrawing from a unit, please contact your local Student

 Administration Office.

The Withdrawal: Information page is displayed. This page contains information about the unityou are about to withdraw from and any consequences of withdrawal.

If you wish to continue with your withdrawal click on the hyperlink continue with withdrawal.

Upon successfully withdrawing from the chosen units, a Withdrawal Confirmation page will be

dislayed. confirming that you have been withdrawn from the chosen units.

Varying Enrolment: Swapping Units

Note: If you have more than one course listed, you will first need to select

the course you wish to swap units for, before navigating to the Course

Details: Overview page.

The Course Details:Overview page lists all of the

options and core units for the

course you have selected.

Click on the 'Swap

Unit' link on the

menu on the left

hand side of the

screen.

The Swap: Choose a Unit to Swap From page will be displayed. This page lists all units you are

currently enrolled in. Select the unit you wish to swap from, and then click on the hyperlink I want

to ….. Swap from the selected unit and choose a different unit to swap into.

Varying Enrolment: Swapping Units - continued

Please note: Sanctions may prevent you from performing some enrolment and variation of 

enrolment related tasks. An error message will be displayed to indicate this.

If you are swapping an optional unit, you may need to select the option first and then choose your unit.

You will then be taken to a page to search for a new unit. When you have selected the unit you wish

to swap into, click on the link 'swap into the selected uni t'. If there is more than one offering

(attendance mode, campus etc) of this unit available, you will be asked to choose, if not you will be

taken to the next page.

You will be asked to check that you have picked the correct units to swap out of and into. If you are

satisfied with your choice you can click on the link 'swap the chosen units '.

 A green tick will be displayed to indicate that your action has been successful.

Assistance with StudentOnLine

You will need your La Trobe University username and password to access StudentOnLine. These details 

were provided on your initial Statement of  Account; however you will have changed them the first time 

you logged

 into

 StudentOnLine.

• Bendigo Student IT support (SITS) is available to assist students from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00

Uni t = subject

Study Package = course / unit / major / group of units

Study Period = teaching period

 Availability = teaching period / location combination

Cor e Unit = compulsory unit that you must pass in order to complete the requirements of your 

course.

Option (elective) = unit chosen from a specified list. You will need to choose and pass a certain

number of units from this list in order to complete your course.

Major = an appr oved sequence of units in a discipline.

 Admitted – the course displays a status of admitted while the student is actively enrolled (or 

inactively).

LO A - a status of LOA advises the student is on approved Leave of Absence.

 AWOL – a status of AWOL indicates a student is Absent Without Official Leave.
