STUDENT LIFE
YOU BELONG AT NSU
NSU is where you want to begin your life’s journey. The NSU community is a safe, friendly,
supportive place to live and learn.
Opportunities abound to make friends, get involved in organizations and clubs (more than
100 to choose from), play intramural sports, join a pre-professional society to kick-start
your resume, and volunteer for community service programs. Residence halls at NSU are
spacious, secure, and convenient and include private bathrooms in each room. You’ll be
close to the Don Taft University Center recreation fitness complex, on-campus dining,
and of course, to all of your classes. Whether you pledge a fraternity or sorority, become
a leader in student government, take a yoga class, or just hang with a friend at the Flight
Deck Pub, NSU is your home away from home.
A PERFECT PLACE TO LEARN, GROW, AND EXCEL
RESIDENTIAL LIFE Get the complete college experience
For many of you, this will be your first time away from home. Living on campus is one of
the best parts of the college experience. You’ll meet new people from all over the world and
make lasting friendships that will impact your life. Residence halls at NSU are spacious,
secure, and convenient. All residence halls offer free utilities, Wi-Fi, cable, and laundry.
Every room features a private bathroom.
Living on campus is more than a modern room, it’s the space you can call your own, and a place
where you’ll create memories that last a lifetime.
Walk over to a friend’s place to hang out, stop by the library to get some work done, go to
Starbuck’s at midnight for a study break, find out when your laundry is done via text message,
and don’t forget to learn Zumba® at the Don Taft University Center’s recreation complex (we call
it the RecPlex). All of the great moments of living on campus are right here at NSU.
The NSU community is a friendly, supportive, and safe place to live, learn, and play. And when
it comes to living, NSU’s modern, co-ed residence halls put you in the center of everything.
Did you know research shows students who live on campus have a higher graduation rate? The
NSU residence halls provide you with access to resources that contribute to your overall success.
GETTING AROUND On and off campus
Shark Shuttle and Campus ParkingAlthough you won’t need a car, you’re allowed to have one on campus. The Shark Shuttle runs
continuously along set routes to get students wherever they want to go within NSU’s 314-acre main
campus and beyond. The shuttle even reaches as far as NSU’s Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale,
in the heart of downtown. There’s a GPS tracking app you can download to your smartphone to
see exactly how close the shuttle is to your location. If desired, residential students may park in
the conveniently located, residential areas. Commuter students, too, may park on campus for free.
SAFETY ON CAMPUSThe safety and security of our students
are our primary concerns. Residential Life
staff members are available 24 hours a
day at the residence halls. In addition to
NSU’s public safety officers, local police
from the surrounding town of Davie
are also assigned to patrol the NSU
main campus.
The NSU Flight Deck Pub is a modern, yet cozy restaurant space for the entire NSU community to enjoy.
The Flight Deck Pub is fully equipped with indoor and outdoor bars, 17 wide-screen televisions, 6 outdoor
cabanas that seat 8 to 10 people each, plush lounge furniture, a multipurpose space, and a tranquil plaza.
“The Flight Deck” name originates from the fact that the land now occupied by NSU used to be the site of
a Navy air base during World War II. Aircraft pilots used to practice taking off and landing on the short
flight decks of U.S. Naval carriers.

HOW WE SUIT UP
JUMP INTO THE SHARK TANK
The NSU Sharks compete in Division II of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
as members of the Sunshine State Conference.
Offering 17 intercollegiate athletic programs,
our student-athletes enjoy a winning edge thanks
to dedicated coaches and athletic training staff
members; some of the best baseball, softball,
and soccer facilities in South Florida; the Shark
Tank (a thundering, 4,500-seat arena in the heart
of the Don Taft University Center); and an
Olympic-sized competition pool. And they all
explode into a frenzy when the Sharks come alive.
The NSU Athletics Department prides itself in
not only athletic excellence, but also academic
excellence. Since joining the NCAA in 2002,
NSU student-athletes, on average, have
maintained greater than 3.0 GPAs.
NSU is home to National Champions, All-Americans, an Olympian, and future professional athletes.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONSStudent OrganizationsWhatever your interests are, you’ll have unlimited
opportunities to make friends, get involved, and
have fun in a diverse, caring community.
A perfect place to learn, grow, and excel, NSU has many
ways for you to get involved on campus. With more than
110 undergraduate student organizations on campus, a
powerful student government, active Greek organizations,
and pre-professional societies to kick-start your resume,
NSU has all the elements of a classic, traditional college.
Types of groups include academic and educational, arts and media, community
service, honor societies, multicultural, political and
social action, pre-professional, recreation, social
activities, Greek organizations, leadership, and special
interest. These organizations, along with academic
departments and other university programs, sponsor
hundreds of activities and events throughout the year.
GREEK LIFE NSU’s fraternities and sororities focus on
lifelong friendships, social networking,
leadership, community service, academic
support, and a chance to be a part of
NSU tradition. About 10 percent of
NSU’s undergrads are members of
a Greek-lettered organization.

STUDENT EVENTS
Over the years, Nova Southeastern University has hosted everyone from movie stars to professional
athletes, internationally recognized scientists, and Nobel Laureates. By bringing these distinguished
guests to campus, the NSU community is enlightened and inspired by their professional
accomplishments. Often, students have the additional opportunity to meet these guests behind
the scenes to learn more about their lives and perspectives. From Life 101…Personally Speaking,
our popular guest lecture series that features guests such as Jason Taylor, Anthony Bourdain,
Gabrielle Union, and John Legend, to the NSU Distinguished Speaker Series that features great
academic minds (like Junot Diaz, Desmond Tutu, and Jamaica Kincade), the NSU campus is full
of opportunities to take learning to the next level.

RECREATION COMPLEX
It’s no coincidence that the Don Taft University Center,
which includes our student recreation complex
(RecPlex), is just steps away from the library.
It serves as both a symbolic and a literal balance
between work and play at Nova Southeastern University.
The RecPlex has basketball courts; volleyball courts;
racquetball courts; a two-story rock climbing wall;
and three multipurpose studios for group exercise,
dance classes, martial arts, yoga, Pilates, or just
about anything else you can imagine. Whether you
are a talented athlete or new to it all, there is fun to
be had in intramural sports. Flag football, volleyball,
basketball, billiards, water polo, soccer, and many
more sports are offered to all NSU students who
want to engage in competitive fun.

A PLACE FOR ART A PLACE FOR PEOPLE
An integral part of the university’s expanded campus, the NSU Art Museum
Fort Lauderdale provides the best in visual arts exhibits and educational
programs to South Florida. Founded in 1958 and having a collection of
more than 6,000 works, the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale has become
one of South Florida’s leading cultural attractions, with past exhibitions
ranging from Diana: A Celebration to Tutankhamun and the Golden Age
of the Pharaohs. The museum also offers community visual arts classes
through the AutoNation Academy of Art and Design and hosts an active
performing arts program, including Inside Out as its resident theater
company. In addition, the highly regarded Artist in Residence Program
broadens the sphere of conversation about contemporary art.
SOUTH FLORIDA LIVINGImagine wearing shorts and flip-flops year-round, taking trips to the beach, experiencing
diverse cultures, and surrounding yourself with some of the best weather in the world.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Guess what? That’s the place NSU calls home.
Between undergraduate and graduate programs, NSU offers more than 140 different
degrees, but for some people, the degrees that matter most are found on a thermometer.
So how does 77°F sound? That’s the average temperature in South Florida. Which means,
when you’re not in class, you can be outdoors all year-round. You’ll need that time to
experience everything South Florida has to offer.
There’s hiking, biking, fishing, boating, scuba diving, and windsurfing. Endless open-
air festivals and concerts. Fort Lauderdale Beach is 15 minutes to the east, and the
Everglades are 15 minutes in the other direction. You can be on South Beach in Miami in
about 30 minutes. In about three hours, you can be enjoying yourself at one of Orlando’s
theme parks or chilling in the Florida Keys. For sports fans, there’s professional football,
baseball, basketball, and hockey. For foodies,
there’s everything from casual waterfront dives
to world-class gourmet cuisine. And, if you
view shopping as a competitive sport, then
South Florida is the Olympics, with everything
from funky flea markets to outlet malls and
some of the world’s most exclusive shops and
boutiques, all just minutes from campus.
