CANVAS  MOBILE  APPS  –   iOS   iPAD  

WHAT  YOU  NEED  TO  KNOW  

1. How  to  find  and  install  the  Canvas  –  by  Instructure  app.  The  Canvas  app  is  a  free  app.    2. The  layout  on  the  mobile  app  is  slightly  different  than  on  a  web  browser.  3. Not  everything  is  available  to  access  on  the  mobile  app.  

INSTALLING  THE  CANVAS  –  BY  INSTRUCTURE  APP  

CANVAS  HAS  SEVERAL  D IFFERENT  APPS  AVAILABLE   IN  THE  APP  STORE .  TO  ACCESS  THE  YOUR  COURSES   IN  CANVAS ,  DOWNLOAD  THE  CANVAS  –  BY   INSTRUCTURE  APP .    

• To  download  the  Canvas  app,  first  go  to  the  App  Store  on  your  iPhone.    • Once  in  the  App  Store,  search  for  “Canvas    -­‐  by  Instructure.”    • The  app  that  you  will  need  to  install  will  look  like  this:    • Select  Install.  Once  the  app  has  successfully  installed,  Open  the  Canvas  app.  

LOGGING  INTO  THE  CANVAS  APP  ON  THE  IPHONE  

THERE  ARE  SEVERAL  PAGES  TO  NAVIGATE  BEFORE  HAVING  ACCESS  TO  YOUR  CANVAS  COURSES .    

   

       

1.  Type  in  the  canvas  URL.  For  the  mobile  apps,  its  baylor.instrucure.com  

2.  Type  in  your  BearID  and  password.  

3.  Select  Log  In  to  get  started.

NAVIGATING  THE  CANVAS  APP  

THE  CANVAS  APP  LOOKS  DIFFERENT  THAN  CANVAS   IN  A  WEB  BROWSER .  HOWEVER ,  THE  FUNCTIONALITY   IS  ALMOST  THE  SAME.    

After  logging  into  the  Canvas  app,  the  first  screen  that  appears  is  the  Dashboard.    

   To  enter  a  specific  course,  select  a  course  from  the  course  list  view.    

1. This  shows  a  list  of  your  favorite  courses.  

2. This  shows  a  list  of  all  of  your  courses.  

3. This  takes  you  to  course  view.  

4. This  provides  a  list  of  To-­‐Do  items,  i.e.  assignments  needing  to  be  submitted  

5. This  takes  you  to  your  Notifications  –  a  list  of  all  unread  announcements,  discussion  posts,  

etc.  

6. This  is  where  you  can  send  conversation  messages  to  you  instructor,  classmates,  etc.  

7. This  takes  you  to  your  personal  profile.  

8. This  will  take  you  to  the  Help  Menu  if  you  need  help  with  Canvas.

COURSE  NAVIGATION  IN  THE  CANVAS  APP  

The  Home  Page  of  each  course  will  look  different  for  each  course.  However,  the  Course  Navigation  menu  is  always  available  on  the  left  hand  side  of  the  screen  from  the  home  page.  

 

   

   

This  is  an  example  of  a  home  page  on  an  iPad.  The  left  hand  side  of  the  screen  has  the  

Course  Navigation  menu.  Not  all  options  in  this  image  may  be  available  to  you  as  a  

student.  

To  interact  in  the  Canvas  course,  select  any  option  from  the  left  side  to  open  that  

respective  function.
