Student Interest in the Intramural Program

Introduction The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of
interest students have in the intramural program at Franklin Pierce University.
The intramural program allows students to play sports on a non-competitive level while increasing on-campus participation.
Problem Statement Research is necessary to determine
student’s interest in the intramural program at Franklin Pierce University. The results will be used to enhance interest in the intramural program.
Research Objectives Identify student attitudes toward the Franklin
Pierce University intramural league. Determine the level of student awareness of
intramurals on campus. Identify ways the intramural program can
improve. Determine if students would be interested in
competing against other higher-education institutions.
Methodology Nature of the Problem
- To determine whether or not students are satisfied with the intramural program and to identify any improvements students would like to see towards the program.
Development of Survey- We developed our research objectives
- The survey was then created by the team, and reviewed by the marketing research class and Dr. Little.
- We finalized the survey and began gathering data.
Methodology (Cont.) Definition of Population
- Students of Franklin Pierce University.- 1,700 students currently attending FP University.
Sample Size- 160 Students- 80 Male , 80 female- Twenty males and females in each class standing

- We used a non-probability convenience sampling method - We handed out surveys at the campus center, bubble, dorms,
classrooms, and intramural events.
Assumptions- That everyone answered honestly.- That everyone answered all the questions.- That everyone understands the meaning of intramural sports.

Discussion According to our results 66% of students
surveyed participate in intramurals.
The facilities, level of competition, staff, and
information are an important part of gaining participation in intramurals.
Conclusion Research Objectives
1) Identify student attitudes toward the Franklin Pierce University intramural league.
- 66% of students participate in the intramural program
- Students mainly participate in intramurals is for recreation/fun (45%) while competition came in second (19%).
- Only 31% of students surveyed below a 6 for enthusiasm. 69% of students are highly
enthusiastic about the program.
Conclusion (Cont.)2) Determine if students would be interested in
competing against other higher-education institutions.- 75% of students are willing to compete against other schools.
3) Determine the level of student awareness of intramurals on campus.
- 75% of students believe that the intramural program is effectively being promoted on campus.
Conclusion (Cont.) 4) Identify ways the intramural program can
improve.
- Competing with other school.
- Offer intramurals on the weekends for those with time constraints during the week.
- Better facilities (i.e. better equipment)
Recommendations Students are satisfied with the Franklin
Pierce University intramural program. We recommend that the school looks into
competing with other schools such as Keene State.
