Wellbeing:
During our Wellbeing lessons in Week 7 we focused on Gratitude.
Today’s lesson is similar to the Gratitude Tree you created from
The Resilience Project Website.
Watch the following story, called The Gratitude Jar by Kristen
Wiens.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TYvJh5Cwvw
A Gratitude Jar is something you can use to write down and
store your gratitude’s (things you are thankful for) each day.
Have a go at your own Gratitude Jar or maybe you could pass
this idea onto a family member or close friend!
Task: Create a Gratitude Jar
1. Find a clean jar (or something similar) and decorate it with
stickers, paper or ribbon.
2. Start by writing 3 things you are grateful for today and put
them into the jar. You can use the sentences below to help if you
need inspiration.
3. Keep it in a safe spot so you can continue to add your
Gratitude Jar.
Today was special because…
I appreciate (person) because…
Something I accomplished today…
Something I am looking forward to…
Something I am thankful for…
Something I like about our family…
Something special about our family…
Three people who make me happy are…
I felt happy today when…
Something little that makes me smile…
Today I had fun when…
Something about today that I’ll always want to remember…
I am proud of (person) because….
My friend (name) is important to me because…
I was proud of myself today because…
Something I like about myself…
Something I look forward to everyday…
Don’t forget, that there are 2 reasons for the gratitude jar…
Firstly, to record and store your gratitude’s.
And secondly, when you might be feeling grumpy or having a
bad day to open your jar and read your gratitude’s.
Taking time to be grateful might just help you feel happy too!

WALT: Identify
characters'
feelings within a
narrative.
WILF: I can
identify how a
character acts
identify how a
character speaks
identify what a
character is
thinking
identify how a
character is
feeling
Characters in stories have feelings just like us! sometimes they are
positive (happy, excited) and sometimes they are negative (sad,
worried).
One way to know your character is to make sure we care about
how the feel, talk, act and think.
Task 1: Watch this read aloud- ‘Hey That’s my Monster’
Take dot points about the characters feelings
https://www.storylineonline.net/books/hey-thats-monster/
Answer these questions:
What did the illustrations tell you about the main character’s
feelings in the text?
How did the character speak?
Do you think the characters' feelings were positive or negative?
Use a word to describe the main characters feelings throughout
the book.
Task 2: Read for 30 minutes. Write down some of the feelings of
the character in your book.

Do you think Ms Trunchbull the hero or villain in this film? Why?
The writer has deliberately created her this way. She has
particular features that build her personality, appearance and
feelings.
View the clip again. This time you will need to fill in the following
Y-Chart to describe Miss Trunchbull’s appearance, personality
and feelings:Y Character Analysis
Use the following questions to start your thinking:
How would you describe what Miss Trunchbull looks like? How
would you describe what type of person Miss Trunchbull is?
How do you think she feels about children? Her job? Her
employees?
External Characteristics
What characters will you need to create for your Hero’s
Journey?
You will need at least your hero, their mentor and a villain
Use the following to create the appearance of your characters.
Remember, it is a Hero’s Journey so he/she/it doesn’t have to
look like a human like the a stick figure example:

understand how
humans impact
on wildlife.
This term we have been learning all about Australia!
Last week we focussed on Australian animals and you attended
a virtual excursion through Healesville Sanctuary.
Your task

As you watch, take notes on the following questions:
How are humans causing problems for this animal?
What can humans do to care for this animal?
What other things can humans to do care for and protect
wildlife?

character.
WILF: I can
Describe the
character in
multiple parts of
the narrative
Identify a trait of
a character from
a list
Identify if a
character is
displaying a
pattern of
behaviour. For
example- being
caring, generous.
In narratives, a character’s traits are revealed through their
behaviours that are repeated. Today we are going to try at a
character in multiple parts of a story. See if you can name the
characters trait/s.
Task 1: Answer the following questions
Watch: Ada Twist, Scientist
https://youtu.be/k4WLYPovczc
Using the character traits list answer the following questions.
● Why didn’t Ada speak for 3 years? What was she doing
instead?
● Why does Ada ask so many questions?
● What does the author mean when she writes that Ada
“has all the traits of a good scientist”?
● What is Ada like as a person? (traits)
● When does Ada’s personality and behavior cause
problems?
● Use three traits off the list to describe Ada
Task 2: Read for 30 minutes. Write down the character traits of
the main character in your book.

Feelings are Fleeting, Traits are Tried and True
View the following book ‘The Way I feel’:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITPUxVQ6UIk
Notice the different feelings that are fleeting they come and go.
View the following book ‘The Way I Act’:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW_Gr6A-hpE
Notice that the different traits are part of who the character is.
They are true.
Think of the different feelings you have felt this week. Have they
stayed with you all week? Think of the different traits you possess.
They make up your personality.
A super effective way to describe your character’s feelings and
traits is to use adjectives. This allows you to show, not tell, to your
reader (we’ll visit ‘show not tell’ later).
Fill in the following template using five of the following character
trait adjectives: assertive, cordial, cunning, defiant, fickle,
haughty, hesitant, indifferent, meek, menacing, noble,
perceptive, pompous, reckless, ruthless, skeptical, submissive,
surly, unassuming, uncompromising
Traits Synonyms
You do not need to fill in the synonyms section YET! You do need
to think of characters that will match the character trait. Use the
following as an example:
Using the following list of adjectives to describe the characters in
your Hero’s Journey. Focus on at least the hero, mentor/sidekick
and villain. Us your planning sheet from last week as a guide.

much that become your traits?! Have a look at this book review:

Now it’s time for you to apply your learning from the term by
creating a comic or story that helps people care for an animal
of your choice.
Today’s task
·Choose an Australian Animal
You are going to pretend that you are that animal.
Here are some questions to get you thinking:
·What are your body features?
·What is your life cycle?
·What are you good at?
·Are humans causing any problems for you? What are they
doing?
·How can humans care for you?

Drawing Diary
WALT… draw a
face in
proportion.
Drawing is a relaxing way to pass the time when you are at
home. You can draw all different things on one page and can
keep adding as you go until you run out of space or you can
present it in your own way. There is no right or wrong way to do
your drawing diary.
Your self-portrait should be completed this week.
Last week you would have completed step 1 to 7. This week I
want you to revise the Power Point and complete number 7 and
8. Also revise the face proportion instructions and complete all
the steps (8-11). Take your time to do each step following the
instructions and link below.
Click the link below to open the PowerPoint presentation (it has
the basic face proportions).

Evaluate your Project. Give yourself a tick for each one that you
have.
Have you got a title for your project?
Do you have a plan?
Have you completed your final copy?
Did you design your enclosure?
Did it include an area for:
Fun
Sleeping
Feeding
Resting
Temperature checks
Did you present it using Media Arts?
What is something you are proud of? _______________
What is something you could improve on? ___________
Challenge:
Using old junk mail, newspapers and sticky tape ONLY, make a
freestanding tower. Try to make it as tall as you can, without it
falling over. It also needs to be able to stand on its own without
support. Measure it, take a pic and share it!
See you all next week. :)

We need to ask questions before, during and after reading.
The Questioner makes questions and then answers them. They
bring their questions to theur reading group for a discussion.
Questions can be literal, where they can be found easily in the
text.
Questions can be inferential where they may not be obvious in
the text. You need to use your knowledge and clues in the text
to be able to answer the questions.
Task 1: Watch Mrs Lloyd Model the role of the Questioner

WILF:
Choose a
setting/s for your
story to take
place
Use adjectives to
describe
Use figurative
language to
describe
Uses the senses to
describe the
setting
Usually the settings in a Hero’s Journey change. The hero’s
normal world is the first setting and then when they cross the
threshold into the unknown world is the second setting.
Today you will plan the two settings that your hero will be in.
One: the hero’s normal world
Two: the hero’s unknown world (altered world)
Use the following template to describe your settings using the
five senses. Remember to add adjectives to describe what you
see hear, smell, touch and taste. You will need to think about
what sort of setting you are describing, is it homely, scary,
maybe exciting? Use your notes from the movie you watched
last week. Think of all of the clips you have viewed so far in
writing…what have you taken as inspiration? Your mentor texts?

society and how
has it changed.
For most of Term 2 we have been remote learning. The way we
rely on media technology has become more important in the
last few months. People have had to change the way they
communicate.
Have a look at these videos showing the way people have
adapted the use of technology to deal with the fact we cannot
meet in large groups face to face.
