A Message from Your ASO President We are now half-way through the semester, and I hope that you all had a great spring break! Please be aware that ASO elecons are going to be held from April 21 through April 26 on myAVC. If you are interested in running for an ASO office for the next academic year, please come into SSV 180 to file a Declaraon of Intent to Run. The Cosmic Bowling event was a success and I know that all those who aended had a great me. Be on the lookout for more events throughout the rest of the semester. - Christopher Dundee Parenng is a tough job, especially when going to school. It seems like there is never enough me, money, sleep or help. No wonder you get stressed! 10 things you can do to relieve stress right now: 1) Give yourself a me-out. Fiſteen minutes by yourself can really help. 2) Take 10 slow, deep breaths 3) Look at a special photo of you and your child 4) Exercise. Jog in place. Dance. 5) Call a friend. 6) Change the scenery. Take everyone for a ride or walk. 7) Cry or yell. (Do this away from your kids so you won’t scare them) 8) Write your feelings down. 9) Remember, this stressful me will soon pass. 10) Forgive yourself. Say out loud, “I am a good parent. Parenting is a tough job, especially when going to school. It seems like there is never enough time, money, sleep or help. No wonder you get stressed!

Cap and Gown

All graduates participating in the ceremony need to purchase a cap and gown.

A black cap, black gown, and maroon/silver tassel will be sold as a complete set at the Marauder Bookstore for $27.95 plus tax. (Gold tassels designating honors will be sold separately for $4.95 plus tax. You must be on the honor’s list at the AVC bookstore to purchase a gold tassel.)

All graduates must wear an AVC cap and gown.

Announcements

Personalized graduation announcement and engraved note cards will be available for

purchase at the Grad Finale Event.

Graduation Portraits

Ultimate Exposures will be taking graduation photos

during the Grad Finale event on 4/15. You must register for a sitting appointment on their

web page at UltimateExposures.com

Academic Cap and Gown will be

offering graduates AVC class rings for

Mental Health

Balancing college life with other life responsibilities can be difficult. Make a confidential appointment with a mental health counselor on campus to assist with anxiety, depression, stress management, drug and alcohol concerns, building life enhancement skills, and other mental health related issues.

Lisa O’Leary: Student Health Services

Lisa O’Leary recently joined the team in March 2014 as the Clerical Assistant III in Student Health Services. Lisa will be helping the department bring health awareness to students and assist with scheduling medical, dental, and mental health appointments. She will also be assisting with organizing and promoting health-related events on campus. Lisa attended Los Angeles Pierce College and transferred to the University of Redlands where she is currently working on her Bachelors of Arts in Business Management. Her professional background includes training specialist and administrative assistant for a major medical software company, public relations and communications officer for an out-of-state school district, and various other positions that have provided her with extensive office experience. Please feel free to stop by Student Development (SSV 180) and say hello!

Voting for the following will take place April 21-16 though myAVC Voting will be on: ASO Officer and Senator positions Student Trustee Constitutional Changes Faculty Inspiration Award To run for any ASO Officer, Senator or Student Trustee position students must declare their intent to run by April 14 at 4 p.m. in SSV 180. To qualify for an ASO or Student Trustee position you must maintain and complete five (5) units of course work at AVC per semester. In addition, you are required to have completed a minimum of five (5) units with a 2.00 GPA during the Spring semester of the election, a cumulative GPA of a 2.00, and be in good standing at AVC. Other qualifications apply as well. To learn more pick to up an Election Code packet to complete come to SSV 180.
