Many have wondered what is required, or what MUST be done in voca on discernment, or more broadly, in developing a strong prayer-life and rela onship with God. The short answer is, pray. Pray as you feel Called by God. Various forms of prayer appeal to some, but not to others, just as some pa erns appeal to some, but not to others. If you pray, persist, and pay a en on (which is quite a challenge for many) you will discover what form of Catholic prayer, what pa erns, what

mes, what good works best reveal who you are in the Church, and your Call to love God.

2018 marks the 55th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Voca ons

Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament--the Chris an scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures. Today's selec ons refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in "Jesus Christ the righteous one" (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to "repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). The First Le er of John calls Jesus Christ "expia on for our sins" (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with "Peace" and urges them to preach "repentance, for the forgiveness of sins" (Luke 24:47). Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION There are many ways in which religious communi es are organized. Some have a central authority in a congrega on, and others have a "rule" that is shared by all the members, but are a kind of federa on of independent houses. Some mes, congrega ons with dis nct histories and ministries decide to merge. Several years ago, one of the largest mergers on record took place. Seven independent congrega ons of Dominican women religious, most in the Midwest, are now one new congrega on enfolding more than seven hundred members spanning thirty-six states. The oldest of the founding groups, the so-called "Kentucky Dominicans," began as a fron er community in 1822. Other communi es have European roots. To get to this historic moment, the sisters spent many years in conversa on, and approved the new structure by a two-thirds majority vote. This was then ra fied by the Holy See. The merger allows the sisters to pool their resources in order to be more effec ve in ministry. They are living the Paschal Mystery, experiencing Christ's dying and rising in an inspiring way. --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Almighty God, we are in need of rain. We realize now, looking up to the clear blue sky above, what a marvel even the least drop of rain really is. To think that so much water can fall out of the sky, which now is empty and clear. We place our trust in You. We are sure that You know our needs, but You want us to ask You anyway, to show You that we know we are dependent on You. Look on our dry fields, dear God, and bless them with the living blessing of so rain. The land will rejoice, and the rivers will sing Your praises, and the hearts of men will be glad. Amen!

Easter Time is the most important of all liturgical mes. Easter is the celebra on of the Lord's resurrec on from the dead, culmina ng in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday to Pentecost. It is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the great resounding cry of the Chris an: Alleluia! All faith flows from faith in the resurrec on: "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, is your faith." (1 Cor 15:14)

May your people exult for ever, O God, in renewed youthfulness of spirit, so that, rejoicing now in the restored glory of our adop on, we may look forward in confident hope to the rejoicing of the day of resurrec on. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. S.
