Site Improvement Plan (SIP) Our Education Director, Jim Michalanney, and Principal Consultant, Shelley Cameron, visited the school last Friday morning to review the progress that we have made against the Site Improvement Plan. We discussed how we would intensify the work for the rest of the year to ensure we meet our goals. The feedback they gave will be useful in shaping the new plan for 2022 and beyond, which we will work on towards the end of this year. Reporting Reports for the end of semester 1 have all been written and are now being checked before they are printed in time to be sent home at the end of the week. We are interested in feedback on the format and how we should report to parents at the end of Term 3, either parent/teacher interviews or written reports. Staffing Mrs. Smith is having a baby and will take leave from the end of this term. We are in the process of finding a replacement for her for the remainder of the year. Mrs. Rowntree will also be finishing part way through next term, and we will advertise her position straight after the holidays. Rubbish As a result of the amount of rubbish that has been left around the yard, the early warning bell at the end of lunch has been sounded earlier and teachers are supervising students while they clean up before the next lesson starts. This has had a positive impact and, if this continues, the bell may be able to return to the usual time early next term. SA Area School Leaders Association Conference I attended this conference on Tuesday, as it included a session presented by the Rural Ambassadors team, which Kayley Kemp is a member of. They had spent

the previous 2 days looking at the issues that students in rural school’s face and some possible solutions to them. Their presentation included some interesting data and some suggestions for helping to overcome these issues. After speaking to the school leaders at the conference, they had the opportunity to make a presentation to the Chief Executive, Rick Persse. The Area School principals are very keen to continue working with these students so that we can continue to provide the best possible education for students in regional areas, equivalent to, or better than that received by their city counterparts. Mobile Phone Policy The updated mobile phone policies have been endorsed by the Governing Council and come into effect from the beginning of next term. There is very little change from the current situation in that students in Years R – 6 should not have a phone at school, and if they bring one in on the bus they need to take it to the front office at the beginning of the day and collect at the end of the day. Students in Years 7 -12 may have their phones with them but they are not to be used once they get off of the bus until they are lining up to get back on the bus at the end of the day. Student Free and School Closure Days Next term there will be a Student Free Day on the 23rd August and a School Closure Day on the 10th September. The School Closure is to allow families to attend the Royal Adelaide Show. The Student Free Day will have a focus on writing and the “Resilience Project”. I will provide more detail on the work that we will be doing on that day as the time gets closer.

The Colour Fun Run was held on Friday 25th June. The starting time was at 2pm with the rain holding off so all runners completed the course, ran through the colour stations to be hit with lots of coloured powdered paint.

On Thursday 1st July there will be a PJ Day fundraiser to raise money for learning equipment in classrooms. Students can wear their pyjamas for a gold coin donation but make sure the pyjamas are appropriate for school.

Adelaide 6 Hour Pedal Prix Race The Pedal Prix Team attending Victoria Park.

This year the 6 hour race at Victoria Park course was shorten because of the Covid testing station on the main straight. This gave the team a shorten track of only 900 metres, which the students enjoyed. The students were really supportive of each other. Blake Walter, Haydn Cormack, Lincoln Pitt,

Jake Thomas, Stewart Schillier and Lachlan Schmerl pedalled Florider. Keeley Gowling, Tahlia Kleinig Kowen Watson, Laqushia Watson, Chloe Pit, Lilly Dent, Lachlan Pitt and Micah Thomas pedalled McNificent. Both Florider and McNificent had another maintenance free run. Well done to the Florider team finishing 28th out of 37 entries in class 3 with 149 laps (134 kilometres) completed. McGnificent team finishing 51st out of 62 entries in class 3 with 107laps (96 kilometres) completed. Thank you to Renata Cormack and Willis Gowling for organising the catering.

This term in Science, the 3/4 class have been learning about the Biological Sciences topic of living things, their life cycles and how they depend on each other and the environment to survive. As part of this unit, each student planted a herb, flower or vegetable and have been looking after these for the last 5 weeks. Students have made and recorded observations of their plant as it has been developing through its life cycle. They have learnt to describe the stages and make comparisons to the life cycle of an animal. Unfortunately, the lavender did not germinate – it must

have been too cold! This has been a fun, interesting and content rich topic with all students actively participating in all tasks. Well done 3/4 class!

English- This term we have worked on procedure writing on the variety of dishes we as a class cooked. The main idea was to prepare the dish and then write down a procedure on how they prepared the dish. Maths- Last week students learnt about how to calculate an area of shapes and applied this learning to real life objects such as the basketball court. To achieve this, we measured the length and width of the basketball court to find out the area. Students then worked in groups and successfully found the area of the basketball court.

Science-Students studied the definition of solute, solvent and solution. We did a practical using sugar (solute) to dissolve in the solvent (water) and we got a solution of sugar water (solution). We had a very successful term as we had fun exploring new things. For all the parents, thank you for your continued support, encouragement, guidance and commitment to your child’s academic journey. Procedure Writing The class wrote a procedure on Weetbix Ball in different formats.

Weet-bix balls - by Matilda You will need:

8 crushed, Weet-bix

1 tin of condensed milk

3 tbs of cocoa

1 cup of coconut

1 bowl

1 wooden spoon

1 tablespoon

2 lined trays

½ cup

spoon

Method:

Step 1:

Put crushed Weet-bix, cocoa and ½ a cup of coconut.

Combine well.

Step 2:

Add condensed milk to the mixture. Mix together and

should be lumpy.

Step 3: use a normal spoon to scoop into a ball,

however big you want them. Tip: just remember they

don’t get any bigger or smaller. Then put them onto a

prepared tray.

Step 4: when you have finished rolling them and

putting them onto a tray, let them set in a room

temperature room or a fridge for 20 minutes before

eating. After that you can eat as much as you want,

but when finished, put into an airtight container. The

Weet-bix balls will last roughly a week or two.
