STRIVE MOROCCO 2017 In October 2017 (4th – 10th) we are taking Strive to Morocco! This four-day event will see STRIVERS mountain bike for 2 days through the desert and foothills of the Atlas Mountains before spending 2 days climbing Mt Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, a stunning peak suitable for all ages and experience.

PARTICIPANTS You will join Sir Richard Branson and his two children Holly and Sam, and a diverse team of entrepreneurs, impact investors, business and community leaders, philanthropists and investors from all over the world. All disruptors in their field and united by a desire to challenge themselves, meet like-minded people and think about how we support young people differently to thrive in life.

ENTRY FEE/DONATION The event will start with a night at Riad El Fenn (for accommodation info see page 3), with a welcome dinner and introductions. The first two days of the challenge will see STRIVERs mountain bike through the desert and foothills of the Atlas Mountains. From there, we will set out to climb Mt Toubkal, staying in a luxury tented camp high on the slopes of the mountain. After successfully summiting the highest mountain in North Africa, we will descend and make the short transfer to Kasbah Tamadot, for two days of rest, recuperation and celebration. The route is designed to take in the most beautiful and remote scenery Morocco has to offer. It will be tough enough to feel like a challenge, but accessible enough so that anyone with a good level of fitness can take part. No technical skills are required. The entry fee for this challenge is £6k and we are asking people to support Big Change with a suggested donation of £25k pp.

Vanessa Branson’s multiple award-winning hotel in the centre of Marrakech. With chic interiors and stunning food, the hotel is an oasis of calm amongst the bustle of Marrakech Medina. At Riad El Fenn, we will have a big welcome dinner, with introductions to the rest of the team and Big Change.

BERBER TENTED CAMP

The Berber tented desert camp will provide desert camping at its most luxurious and comfortable. Mint tea will be waiting for you on arrival, delicious food and drink, real beds and of course, one of the best views of the starry desert skies

MOUNTAIN CAMP

Halfway up Mt Toubkal, the refuge provides the perfect place to prepare for the biggest day of the challenge, summit day!

KASBAH TAMADOT

Richard Branson’s Moroccan mountain retreat. With its giant swimming pool, hamams, gala dinners, mountain views and well stocked bars, Tamadot will provide the perfect location to spend 2 days recovering and celebrating the end of the challenge.

ACTIVITIESFOOTHILL MOUNTAIN BIKING

We will ride breathtaking and winding tracks through the forests and foothills of the Atlas mountains, to the base of Mt Toubkal. The terrain will be largely undulating but there will be some steeper and sustained up hill sections. For the mostpart, we will be riding on dirt tracks so whilst none of the riding will be technical, a decent level of fitness is highly recommended.

TOUBKAL CLIMB

Mt Toubkal stands 4167m above sea level and commands superb views of the High Atlas Mountains. It is the perfect mountain, regardless of experience and climbed over 2 days, isn’t too strenuous. We will trek up well-trodden paths with wonderful guides who can tell you everything about the surrounding area. Reaching the summit of any mountain is a monumental achievement and is the best way to end four days of serious Striving.

R&R AND CELEBRATION AT KASBAH TAMADOT

Tamadot is famous as the ultimate destination for complete rest and relaxation. Its huge outdoor pool, fresh mountain air, hamam, massage therapists and amazing food will provide the perfect place to recover from 4 days of Striving. And with a gala dinner on the first night and well-stocked bars, its not a bad place for a party either!

Key Skill Gap Communication

Communication is a critical life skill but grossly underserved in the current education system. We are advocating for oracy to be regarded on the same level as reading and writing, and supporting proejcts in the sector like Voice 21.

TalenT CrisisTeacher wellbeing

Teachers are a primary influence on young people’s development , yet the profession is facing a crisis in burnout and teacher attrtirion. We are conducting research to identify the opportunities for change and backing new solutions.

career supportBroadening horizons

Young people are leaving education with little idea of their unique strengths and real carreer support. We want to set young people up to know who they are and what they can contribute- rethinking oudated careers advice!

1. FIND We look for projects that have the potential to drive exponential, rather than incremental, change. They address a clear need or gap in the current way things are done to drive long-term, systemic change.

2. ACCELERATE We support these ideas at an early stage and provide flexible, tailored partnerships with clear milestones to help them grow. We cover operating costs and amplify investment through connections, partnerships and profile.

3. Impact We help organisations prove their model, demonstrate their impact to become capable of driving impact at scale. This enables them to attract ongoing funding, and sustainable income streams to create Big Change.
