We have had the heartbreak of the 2nd Grade grand final, the strength of our men in the Premier League final, the BBQ’s at K & D (including Jenny & her sausage delivery), the “photo sessions” by Mark Smith of dentist patrol and uniform history, Jo Traynor and Helen Wells beavering away putting together the magazine on a Wednesday night, the numerous girls and boys at junior trainings, the new level of sponsorship within the club that exceeded everyone’s expectations, the women’s veterans taking the turf for the first time in a number of years not to mention Tania Barry’s goal/the team’s first goal and last but not least, the two premierships at both ends of the spectrum, the Under 12 Division 2 Premiers and the 4th Grade Women winning the premiership in extra time. These memories, along with many more are a part of our history. And as one season ends the preparation for 2016 begins. If you are wanting to help out or assist in anyway, big or small, I encourage you to contact a committee member to express an interest. The committee produce a lot of work all of which is volunteered (whilst working in full time jobs) and we always welcome new volunteers. I would like to thank the committee, in particular the Executive, who as a group, hopefully cover all angles of the club. A special thank you to Torin Bester and Nat Fahey who organised our recent wonderful 80th Anniversary Presentation Night. So in conclusion I would like thank you for being a part of Derwent’s history and congratulate all winners; once again you are adding to the history of this wonderful club – Toast Derwent Hockey Club. AUSTRALIANHOCKEYLEAGUE(AHL)REPORT

Tigers Claim AHL BronzeFollowing their maiden AHL Championship title in 2014, theexpectations were high for the Tigers Darwin campaign.Fielding a new look team with five debutants for 2015, theTigers suffered a minor set-back with a first game loss in atight tussle against 2013 champions Queensland 2-1.

The Tigers bounced back in game two with a convincing 4-1win over South Australia. The Tigers defeated NSW 4-2 inthe do-or-die match to finish top two in their pool and keepthe dream of a back-to-back title alive.

The Tigers suffered consecutive 3-1 losses to Victoria andWA in their medal pool matches. The results relegating theTigers to the bronze medal playoff against Victoria.

The bronze medal clash was an entertaining one which sawthe lead change 4 times before the Tigers secured the win4-3.

Congratulations to Eddie Ockenden who was named Playerof the Tournament becoming the first player to ever win thePlayer of the Tournament at four AHL Championships (2011,2013, 2014 & 2015).

PREMIERLEAGUEWOMEN’SCOACH2016Derwent are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate personto fulfil the role of Premier League Women’s coach in 2016.

Interested persons should contactJaneAnsell at [email protected].

Congratulations also to Billy Shaw who celebrated his 50thAHL game during the tournament.

DerwentRepresentatives: Angus Boulton & Tim Deavin.Acknowledging ex-Derwent players: Geoff Cock, DougalMiddleton & Billy Shaw.Coach: Glenn Freeman & TeamDoctor: Ian Middleton.

Van Demons Finish EighthThe Van Demons team featured nine debutant players forthe 2015 AHL tournament played in Sydney . Unfortunatelythe girls were unable to win a game in their Pool A round-robin matches against WA (2-0), NSW (7-0) and Canberra(4-1).

Assigned to the non-medal pool in the 2nd stage of thecompetition, the Van Demons had their only win of thetournament against the Northern Territory 1-0. A loss intheir final pool match against South Australia 2-1 wouldrelegate the Van Demons to the 7 v 8 play-off against theNorthern Territory.

Trailing Northern Territory 2-1 late in the final match the VanDemons fate seemed sealed until Amelia Spence scoredwith seconds remaining to take the match to a penaltyshoot-out. With a single conversion each in the first roundof penalty shoot-outs the game was sent to sudden death. The Northern Territory secured victory in the first suddendeath round.

Congratulations to Nicole Geeves who became Tasmania’smost capped AHL player during the tournament celebrating125 games and coach Ilene Carr who celebrated 150 AHLgames as a player/coach.

DerwentRepresentatives: Holly Bonde, Jess Tremayne &Eliza Westland.Acknowledging ex-Derwent player: Amelia Spence.AssistantCoach: Paul Ancher
