CBSE always believes in Global Trends of Educational Transformation. The CBSE
curriculum gets its lead from National Curriculum Framework – 2005 and Right to Free and
Compulsory Education Act – 2009. The aim of CBSE Curriculum is not just to let learners
obtain basic knowledge but to make them life-long learners. CBSE always updates and
reviews the syllabus to make it more relevant with educational transformation and in last
few years the chapters and topics which CBSE has added are very interesting and increase
practical knowledge.
Oswaal Question banks are designed to nurture individuality and thus enhance
one's innate potentials which help in increasing the self-study mode for students. This book
strengthens knowledge and attitude related to subject. It is designed in such a way that
students can set their own goals and can improve their problem solving and thinking skills.
The journey of this book is never ending as this book is reviewed every year and
new questions, previous year's examination questions, new HOTS or any change in
syllabus is updated time to time. Also regular review and reader's feedback increases the
efficiency of this book gradually.
Moreover, every Question Bank strictly follows the latest syllabus and pattern, and
contains more than sufficient questions and brief description of chapters, which help
students in practicing and completing the syllabus. Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
questions, solutions to important NCERT questions and questions from Kendriya
Vidyalaya Sangathan makes this book complete and very efficient. Solutions are always
checked twice and tried to make precise as per marking scheme. Practically, this book
provides students everything they need to learn.
At last we would like to thank our authors, editors, reviewers and specially students
who regularly send us suggestions which helps in continuous improvement of this book
and makes this book stand in the category of “One of the Best”. Wish you all Happy
Learning.

(ii) Read the instructions carefully and follow them.(iii) Do not exceed the prescribed words limit.
SECTION – A : READING (20 Marks)
1. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :Memories of Madiba
1. This is a Nelson Mandela story that will never make it to the official narrative. Worldleaders paid their tribute in South Africa, but at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, whereNelson Mandela twice stayed, a butler remembers him as the man who waved good-bye.
2. Barak Obama met Mandela once. But Maqbool, neither a president nor a politician, probablygot to see the real Mandela. He was on duty twice when Madiba (Mandela) came toIndia. For the famous world leader, Maqbool was not just a faceless man in uniform, but areal person.
3. Maqbool, who will retire by the middle of next year, has been around longer than most of thePresident's men. His relationship with the Rashtrapati Bhavan goes back 60 years. He grewup in the sprawling green of Lutyens Estate and followed his father into the service. And, inhis vast expanse of memories, the Mandela moments occupy a special place. “Hume bolagaya tha ki ek Gandhiji aayenge [We were told that a Gandhi was coming for a visit], “hesays with a smile. “We didn't Know who he was then.”
4. Much to Maqbool's disappointment, Mandela did not look like Gandhi. He was charmednevertheless. “His hands were very strong,” he says. “You could tell that he had donephysical labour.” For Maqbool, who has dealt with many heads of state, Mandela seems to bespecial not just because of the similarities with Gandhi, but also because of the impressionMadiba made on him. “He called all of us and asked us to write down our names. We did. Hethen copied them and gave us all his autograph. I still have mine, but I didn't realize thevalue of it then.” he says.
5. The man who was famously always free–even when he was in prisons for 27 years – came toIndia first in 1990 and then as president of South Africa in 1995 and was conferred withBharat Ratna the highest civilian honour. Power did not seem to affect him to the way hetreated people. “He always spoke softly. He was unfailingly polite, calm and very patient.”says Maqbool.
6. He even travelled with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam when he went to South Africa. “I SawMandela's cell,” he says. It was small. It is difficult to imagine how he spent thoseyears in prison, But if you look at his photographs, you cannot find one thatdoesn't have him smiling. He had a smile on his face always.
7. In his speech on December 10, President Pranab Mukherjee said Mandela was “a toweringpersonality of great compassion and wisdom.” Maqbool did not hear that speech but hisexperience is a proof that the words were true. “Most VIPs don't walk out the door after
