LINDAWAN ANNEX

I. GUIDE CARDA. SPEED.

A cheetah’s body is built for speed. During a high-speed chase, the cheetah’s spine arches in a way that helps the animal take long strides. Its tail helps it stay balanced while running.

The cheetah is the fastest animal on land. Cheetah can maintain to speed for about 100kilometer per hour. Race horses are among the fastest domestic animals. The graph shows the distance these animals can cover when traveling at top speeds.

The steepness of a line is called itsSlope. The slope of a line is also a rate of change.

Slope = Vertical change Horizontal change

The slope of the cheetah’s line is 27.

C. Application on Energy Use

Rob Mueller had 12 gal of gasoline in his car. After he drove 160 miles on the highway, there were six gallon left. The graph shows the amount of gasoline left in his car as a function of the number of miles driven. Find the slope of the line. What does the slope tell you about the situation?

Application on Energy Use shows that you can calculate slope if you know the coordinates
