OVERVIEW AND VISION
Story County Quality of Life Alliance
“Building on the collective power of community initiatives to improve the quality of life for the people of Story County”
PURPOSE Alliance will serve as
communication point for various groups and coalitions in Story County◦ Share information ◦ Share ideas ◦ Share resources
Alliance will focus on addressing health and human service needs in Story County
Alliance will combine efforts and collaborate on community health grants
Alliance will take systematic aim at addressing community goals and identify new or emerging needs/gaps
STRUCTURE Alliance is envisioned as a
“coalition of coalitions”. Representatives from the
Story County Community Coalition will provide support and direction:
Alliance will include representation from health and human service coalitions and other interested stakeholders

Overview of Existing Health Improvement Plan (HIP) for Story County Community Health Improvement Plan Goals
Promote Healthy Behaviors
·Promote healthy lifestyles in the community to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity.·Decrease negative consequences and outcomes of high risk alcohol use.·Increase access to adequate behavioral health care.
Prevent Injury
·Increase reporting of sexual assault and decrease sexual violence.
Strengthen the Public Health Infrastructure
·Increase access to behavioral health, oral health care and prenatal care services to low income residents by establishing one Community Health Center by 2013.
Prepare for, Respond to, and Recover from Public Health Emergencies
·Increase the number of available Special Needs Shelters to 3 in 2012 from a baseline of zero in 2010.

Access to Health CareGoal: Increase access to
behavioral health, oral health care & prenatal care services to low income residents by establishing one Community Health Center by 2013. (SCQOL)
Strategies:1) Develop community Alliance to spearhead project
2) Submit grant to establish Federally Qualified Health Center in Story County recognizing this is a competitive process that may require several attempts 3) Creat joint effort between Primary Health Care, Inc & Alliance to establish a satelite access point in Story Co.
Negative Alcohol OutcomesGoal: Decrease negative
consequences and outcomes of high risk alcohol use (ISU Theilen Student Health Center)
Strategies:Collaborate with ISU Student Health on Strategy
Schedule & conduct series of eduational/informational sessions with Story Co youth
Prevention Poicy Board Alcohol Task Force (PPBD) working with public officials will be created to develop action plans
Implement PPBD action plan
Baseline: 38% of students report doing something they regret after alcohol. 14% of youth 12-18 consumed alcohol in last 30 days
Sexual Assault and ViolenceGoal: Increase reporting of
sexual assault and decrease sexual violence. (ISU Theilen Student Health Center)
Strategies:
Baseline data indicates that 4% of women and 2% of men have been forced to have sex after overconsuming alcohol.
Create a team to make an action plan
Increase awareness of the Sexual Assault Task Force
Behavioral Health CareGoal: Increase access to
adequate behavioral health care (Subcommittee of Criminal Justice Mental Health Task Force)
Strategies:Mental Health task force will explore creation of Mental Health Assessment Center
Baseline: 78% of residents do not believe behavioral health care is adequate in Story County
Healthy LifestylesGoal: Promote healthy lifestyles
in the community to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity (Healthy Story County Coalition)
Strategies: Establish a healthy lifestyle coalition to guide county health promotion programming
Develop service learning partnerships to enable ISU students to promote healthy lifestyles in the community
Increase programming opportunites in the community by securing funding for continued programming
Baseline: From 2005 to 2010, 6% more resident have a BMI over 25.
