It’s a Friday night and everyone in the office is leaving out early in the evening to enjoy the weekend. I have no such plans, I am busy scrutinizing the minute details of the next accusation my company “Zen NXT” is planning to have. It got late while I finished the complete analysis and the office is completely empty. I never had an issue working alone; the silence makes me think deeper. This acquisition would make my foothold firm in the markets. Thinking of the success my eyes wanders over the numerous awards I had received in the past years. At the end was a photo frame which pictured five persons receiving the Best Team award. This picture was taken eight years down the line when I was pursuing my Management course. As I close my eyes I could see each ones’ face clearly in my mind as if it was just yesterday. Memories of those days started to flood my head. My team SHANK which got its name from the initials of five people Shivam, Heena, Arun, Nikita and Karan. Our story started from the first class of Marketing where we all were late and thrown out of the class. Since then we were inseparable. Playing, studying and partying out together. We bunked the class, played dirty pranks and took part in every event of the college. Profs hated us and we enjoyed their hatred. Nikita and Karan, the geeks, they made sure that we never missed any assignments and learnt all lessons before the terms. Arun was the fitness freak, he used to work out hard and made the rest work out harder. Heena was the life of the group, she ensured that we had proper food and never missed the meals. And I just enjoyed. But if anyone dared say anything against any of my friends, I made their life hell. Heena was the best thing in my life and I knew she loved me more than anything. Things were good till the final placements began where we started to think about our dreams and aspirations. Everyone had their own dreams, they wanted to get into company and be well settled. Heena wanted to live in the mountains and have a happy life. On asked what my dream was, I replied I wanted to be the top businessman, successful, have the world at my feet. Since then there has been no turning back. The urge to be on the top didn’t make me realize that I had left behind my friends, my family and my Heena.

The urge to be on the top didnt make me realize that I had left behind my friends, my family and my Heena.Realization dawned upon me as I wonder how life would have been had I dreamt of being among the loved ones instead of being on the top. The swirls of memories started to make my head heavy. I take out a glass and pour myself a drink. I didnt realize that soon I had completed the whole bottle. I started to feel uncomfortable, not sure because of the excess wine I had or the thoughts in my head. I tried to stand but I was hardly able to balance myself. The images of my friends whom I no longer talked with, my mother whom I had not met since a long time due to my schedules, my Heena whom I could not marry because I prioritized work over having a family began swirling in my head. I felt like I had lost everyone I loved for the power I wanted to acquire.
