STORM THORGESON1944 –2013
Brief Information
English Graphic Designer
Best known for his work for rock artists such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Al Stewart, Europe, Catherine Wheel, Bruce Dickinson, Dream Theater, The Cranberries, The Mars Volta, Muse, Biffy Clyro and Rival Sons.
6 STEP PROCESSThe Brief:
In this section, Storm would listen to the music of the artist,
think about the lyrics and this would help him
generate ideas.
The Roughs:After the brief, the client and Storm
would meet up for several meetings to discuss the key theme. He may then
have come up with a rough idea of the type of album cover/artwork he would
like to produce.
Tests:If the band/client were happy
with the rough illustration then he would make several
prototypes from this to test out different designs. If the client is
happy a final prototype is made.
Shoots:Location, Characters, Lighting, Weather etc.
Storm may need to book a certain place or look at when is best to shoot.
Editing:After the shoot’s have been
made they will pick their (Clients) favourite one and then Storm would then edit
this to fit with the mood of the song.
Artwork:After all of the final tweaks
have been made the artwork will be handed over to the
client to then be ready to be sold.
Storms Artwork
Analysis of 1 piece of ArtworkPositives: Negatives:
Colours really work well together they are quite contrasting colours as they are representing the ground and shadows.
The white colour for the title of the album and artist name doesn’t really stand out against the background and you get side tracked into the picture more.
The artists name has lines above, this shows that this is the artists name and not the title of the album.
Doesn’t tell a huge story about the album if you didn’t know their genre etc.
A good camera angle of birds eye view shows the man surrounded by shadows with him looking up being slightly confused.
