T he Extended Mid-Year (EMY) classes are FREE modes of academic intervention that are meant to
help students who received failing marks – Low Average (LA) or Poor (P) – at the end of the First
Term, to catch up with the lessons and/or cope with the academic demands of a specific subject.
Students who received LA or P marks at the end of the First Term in any Core or Non-Core Subjects shall
be required to attend the EMY classes.
Students who received failing marks in the Core Subjects shall be attending make-up classes for
one week following a special schedule while those who got failing marks
in minor and non-core subjects shall be given a performance task/
special project to work on and to be submitted at the end of the week.
The program supports the Grit and Growth Mindset framework as it
has been designed to give students a chance to work on their academic
deficiencies early so that they don’t worsen and to help the students get
back on track when they come back after their semestral break.
The EMY classes will start on November 4 and will end on November
8. A letter and the schedule will be given to those students who will attend
the EMY classes.
S ponsors and sponsorees are counting the days till they meet the first
time this year on the sponsorship session on October 21.
Sponsorship is a type of mentoring program initiated by SSIS to
complement the ones given by the Guidance Counsellor, Homeroom
Advisers, and subject teachers to their students. Sponsorship talks cover an
assortment of topics such as the value of the week, setting and achieving
goals, and overcoming challenges.
At times, topics can divert to individual consultations about the challeng-
es faced by the students inside and outside the classroom. A student can confide
to the sponsor about many things, personal or academic. In this case, the sponsor takes on
the role of the counsellor by listening and helping the child reach a solution to the problem at hand.
In some cases, the sponsor can also act as a coach who helps the learners improve and achieve
their personal and academic aspirations by providing proper guidance. Through the sponsorship pro-
gram, students will be able to see their teachers not only as facilitators of learning but most importantly,
as friends, supporters, motivators, and agents of students’ growth and development.

What Is Good Sportsmanship? Good sportsmanship is when people who are playing or watching a sport
treat each other with respect. This includes players, parents, coaches, and offi-
cials.
How Can Kids Learn to Be Good Sports? Kids might not know how to show they are good sports. Teach them that
good sports:
have a positive attitude;
give their best effort;
shake hands with the other team before and after the game;
support teammates by saying "good shot" or "good try" and never criticize
a teammate for trying;
treat the other team with respect and never tease;
follow the rules of the game;
help another player up who has fallen; and
accept a loss without whining or making excuses.
What's a Parent's Role in Good Sportsmanship? Kids learn how to be a good sport from the adults in their lives, especially
their parents and their coaches. As soon as your child starts competing in sports,
it's important to be a good role model.
Show your good sportsmanship!
Keep sideline comments positive and encouraging.
After a competition, don't focus on who won or lost. Instead, try asking,
"What did you do well during the game?" "Was there something you wish
you could have done better?" If your child feels there was something that
could have gone better, offer to work on it together before the next
game.
Applaud good plays, no matter who makes them.
Congratulate the winners, even if they're on the other team.
Look for examples of good sportsmanship in professional athletes and
point them out to your kids.
