Letter from Fr. Miguel Dear St. James Family,

In our fast-paced, “grab-n-go” society where things can feel disposable, instantaneous, and fleeting all at once, a Christ-centered education is more critical than ever. As our children navigate and evaluate the blessings and responsibilities of technology, globalization, and collaboration, providing a faith-based lens and compass from which to approach the world is a priceless gift. No one knows more intimately than each of you–those making the continual sacrifices to ensure a Catholic education for your children and those who value the mission of SJCS and passionately contribute to its sustained fruitfulness–the importance of our work.

In speaking at the Gravissimum Educationis Foundation’s conference entitled, “To Educate is to Transform”, Pope Francis encouraged (that), “we need to give a soul to the global world through an intellectual and moral formation that can support the good things that globalization brings and correct the harmful ones.” WOW.

It is clear that the work, the ministry, of St. James Cathedral School is truly transformative and imperative. We have all been charged with the responsibility to instill an “intellectual and moral foundation” to which His Holiness explains is to “give soul to the global world”. This is an incredible responsibility that our administration, faculty, and staff do not take lightly, and SJCS could not begin to carry forth this call without support from each of you.

On behalf of everyone in the SJCS Family, thank you for supporting our mission in the many ways you give of your time, talent, and treasure and for making stewardship a way of life. It is truly because of your example that we are fostering students who Come to Learn. Leave to Serve. Be assured of our prayers for you, and please raise our Panther community in your prayers as well.

In Christ,

Our Rector, Very Reverend Miguel A. González

A Christ-centered education is more critical than ever.

WAYS TO GIVE

ENDOWMENTSEndowments are intended to provide stable, long-term funding to an institution while balancing the present and future needs of the school. Almost any area of school life can be endowed. The minimum to establish a separated named endowment is $25,000 and gifts at any level are appreciated.

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS & SCHOLARSHIPSScholarship and Memorial Scholarships are an important way to honor a loved one, teacher, or area of student life that is important to you. Scholarship are distributed annually based on the criteria established by the donor. Scholarships are an important way of assisting today’s students while honoring those that have come before them.

APPRECIATED SECURITIESGifts of marketable stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares that have appreciated in value can help donors avoid a capital gains tax, and allow donors to make a larger gift to the St. James Cathedral School.

CORPORATE MATCHING GIFTS Most companies that match education donations will match contributions to Catholic schools. Please check with your Human Resources Department to determine their requirements.

BEQUESTSDonors can leave a legacy by remembering St. James Cathedral School in their wills. A charitable bequest in a will can benefit St. James Cathedral School while saving donor’s estate tax dollars. A bequest also includes membership into the Vivos Christi Society.

ELENA YATES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPEstablished in 2018 by St. Vincent de Paul Society, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to deserving student(s) at graduation. Gifts made to the Elena Yates Memorial Scholarship fund will allow the school to continue to award this annual scholarship.

Annual Fund

TUITION ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDDr. Louis Murray and his wife Sue generously supported St. James Cathedral School for over two decades. Education was important to Dr. Murray and it was his desire to help ensure a Catholic education was available to those who desire one. The Dr. Murray Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for those families. Dr. Murray and his wife Sue embodied the school’s motto: We come to learn. We leave to serve.

ST. JAMES SCHOOLSCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUNDEndowment giving is an opportunity to invest in the future of St. James. The St. James Scholarship Endowment was established in conjunction with the Cathedral to be able to provide tuition assistance to families in need. Contributions to the Endowment fund are perpetual; as the endowment grows, so does the school’s ability to carry on its mission. Gifts of any level are appreciated.

THE ST. JAMES ANNUAL FUNDThe Fund for St. James Cathedral School is the Annual Fund campaign to close the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate each child. An Annual Fund is the financial lifeblood of any school and is used to support the current year’s budget. Gifts are unrestricted and added to the school’s budget to meet current operating expenses, enhance programs and services offered to students, and to maintain the campus and buildings. An Annual Fund gift is a tangible vote of confidence in St. James Cathedral School. Our goal is 100% parent, faculty, and staff participation. This tax-deductible opportunity will make a difference in the future of St. James Cathedral School.
