Jan. 16—{IP)—The stock market developed impressive buoyancy today, altboujrh trading was the dullest for any full session co far this year, with total trans- actions of but 8,670.800 shares. IT. 8. Steel, the traditional bell wether of the list, came within a fraction of the high mark for the present stock, and chemical and public utility shares made violent spurts. Call money renewed at 8 per cent and held at that figure all day, des- pite the calling of about $15,000,000 In loans. Time money was scarce around the abnormally high rates of 7 1-2 to 7 3-4 per cent. Allied Chemical, which closed at 262 yesterday, a drop of 13 points, more than made up its loss today, soaring 18 points to a new record high at 280. Mathieson Alkali also shot up about 15 points in buying largely baaed on a rumor that Du Pont was negotiating to acquire It. Da Pont Interests denied the rumor too late in the session to influence the stock. In the utilities, Common- wealth Power and Detroit Edison made extreme gains of 8 to 9 points. U. S. Steel touched 172 1-4, just a quarter point under the highest figure since the payment of the 40 par cent stock dividend. Bethlehem, American Steel Foundries, Colorado Fuel and Iron and Vanadium were other issue.- in this group to sell 3 to nearly 6 points higher. Copper sharer* stiffened, and St. Joseph lead jumped more than 6 points. Automotive shares improved. Con- tinental Motors and General Motors seltlng up sbont 3 points, and Elee- tric Auto Lite jumping nearly 10 points to a new peak. >. Borden Co. gained 8 points in buy- ing in expectation of a stock split up, and Curtlss Aero improved on reports of an affiliation with the Caproul Aviation Company of Italy. Pah American Petrdfenm B was bought in expectation of .better earn- ings from its new refinery. Radio fell 7 points, but regained most of its loss. stock market developed impressive buoyancy today, altboujrh trading was the dullest for any full session co far this year, with total trans­actions of but 8,670.800 shares. IT. 8. Steel, the traditional bell wether of the list, came within a fraction of the high mark for the present stock, and chemical and public utility shares made violent spurts.

Call money renewed at 8 per cent and held at that figure al l day, des­pite the calling of about $15,000,000 In loans. Time money was scarce around the abnormally high rates of 7 1-2 to 7 3-4 per cent.

Allied Chemical, which closed at 262 yesterday, a drop of 13 points, more than made up i t s loss today, soaring 18 points to a new record high at 280. Mathieson Alkali also shot up about 15 points in buying largely baaed on a rumor that Du Pont was negotiating to acquire It. D a Pont Interests denied the rumor too late in the session to influence the stock. In the utilities, Common­wealth Power and Detroit Edison made extreme gains of 8 to 9 points.

U. S. Steel touched 172 1-4, just a quarter point under the highest figure since the payment of the 40 par cent stock dividend. Bethlehem, American Steel Foundries, Colorado Fuel and Iron and Vanadium were other issue.- in this group to sell 3 to nearly 6 points higher. Copper sharer* stiffened, and St. Joseph lead jumped more than 6 points. Automotive shares improved. Con­tinental Motors and General Motors se l t lng up sbont 3 points, and Elee-tric Auto Lite jumping nearly 10 points to a new peak. > .

Borden Co. gained 8 points in buy­ing in expectation of a stock split up, and Curtlss Aero improved on reports of an affiliation with the Caproul Aviation Company of Italy. Pah American Petrdfenm B was bought in expectation of .better earn­ings from its new refinery.

Radio fell 7 points, but regained most of its loss. General Gas & Elec tr i c B lost more than 7 points. and Allis Chalmers slipped back 3.

sational price movement* in a few issues were outstanding features of today's Curb market session, while price changes in the general list were limited to small figure*. Ford Motor of Canada continued its sensadonal drop, started around yesterday's close, selling more than 60 point* below its previous close.

On the other hand, urgent buying developed in special Issue*.like Stand­ard Oil of Indiana and American Superpower "B". The former issue rose to a new high for the present capitalisation on reported buying fen control by the Stewart interest* on one hand and the Rockefellers on th« other. The stock sold more than 8 points higher.

Heavy buying of American Super­power was stimulated by announce­ment that lt had exchanged it* ex­tensive holdings of public Service oi N J. and United Oas Improvement for stock of trie new! y formed United Corporation. Postal Telegraph & Cable 5s were lower, while Amer­ican Telephone issues were actively dealt In at unchanged prices.

has been the pastor of the Mlnaville Reformed church for t h e past two years, has tendered his resignation on account of 111 health. Mr. Sim­mons is the son of a minister end has brothers who followed the call, Is a member of the Newark Meth­odist conference, but for several years has been in New York State for t h e benefit of his health. Rev. and Mrs. S immons were resident* of Fonda before moving to Mlna­ville and the dominie spent several years-of h i s boyhood in this village.
