Steering the fleet ever-forward through their unfaltering precision and expertise, Cunard’s Commodores have sailed
our ships across the seas for almost two centuries.
Here we lend those same principles to every drink served, in spirit.
Through a distinguished selection of contemporary cocktails, the characters of the seven most decorated
Commodores are artfully distilled for your delectation and discovery.
In concert with elegant aperitifs and relaxed evening entertainment, we invite you to savour their view of
the world as it unfurls across the bow.
Welcome to the Commodore Club.

COMMODORE SIR JAMES CHARLES
KBE CBE RD RNR (1865 — 1928)
With quite the reputation for doing things on a grand scale, Charles’ dinner parties aboard Aquitania were well renowned as opulently social affairs, often centring around entire herds of exotic feather-gilded fare. Ever the showman, he bowed out of service just as grandly upon the completion of his 728th transatlantic crossing—passing away in his quarters on what was to be the eve of his retirement.
This aromatic and refreshing sharing cocktail is extravagantly presented, just the way Sir James would come to expect.

COMMODORE SIR ARTHUR ROSTRON
KBE CBE RD RNR (1869 — 1940)
Calmer than the oceans he called home, Rostron is perhaps
the most celebrated of all Cunard captains. His repose lead to the safe
rescue of all survivors of Titanic, prudently redirecting heating
power to the engines and ensuring Carpathia’s swift arrival.
His composure finally faltered
when he refused to travel to the shipbreakers with his beloved
Mauretania, overcome with emotion after ten years as her master.
Believed to be the last libation served aboard Titanic, this reinvented
Punch Romaine maintains the original’s intriguing
mid-point between dessert and drink.

COMMODORE SIR EDGAR BRITTEN
KB RD RNR (1874 — 1936)
From humble Bradford beginnings and against the will of his family, Britten escaped to sea at just fifteen. Steadfastly working his way up from the bottom with nothing but his own perseverance as his guide.
In the years to come that same decisiveness would see him appointed Commodore to the newly created Cunard White Star Line and first master to Queen Mary, commanding both her maiden voyage and the taking of the celebrated Blue Riband.
A fascinating blend of ‘Blue Riband’ XO Cognac and the flavours of Parkin—a classic Yorkshire cake—made in the style of an Old Fashioned.

COMMODORE SIR ROBERT IRVING
KB OBE RD RNR (1877 — 1954)
While other Commodores tended to be of modest origin, Robert Irving was certainly not.
Heralding from a wealthy and well-connected Scottish Border
family, he was chieftain of his clan.
Irving’s service to the company saw his command of both
Aquitania and Queen Mary— once boldly docking the
81,235-ton Queen in New York without the usual aid of 12
powerful tugs—before retiring to his family seat in 1944.
As a creature of habit and a dedicated collector of briar
pipes, Irving would have likely approved of this
re-imagining of his mid-morning coffee.

COMMODORE SIR JAMES BISSET
KB CBE RD RNR LLD (1883 — 1966)
Valuable cargo came to be something of a defining characteristic of Bisset’s tenure with the company.
Throughout WWII he commanded both Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth across the Atlantic, once carrying a record 16,683 American GIs and becoming a personal friend to Churchill before, during peacetime, safely delivering the Magna Carta home to Lincoln Cathedral by sleeping with it safely stowed beneath his bed.
Bisset’s legendary passengerseasickness remedy— a glass of chilled bubbly after 24 hours of fasting —blends with his close friendship of Churchill to inspire this contemporary Champagne cocktail.

COMMODORE SIR CYRIL ILLINGWORTH
KB RD RNR (1883 — 1958)
A proud countryman, Illingworth was once quoted as saying of the British:
“We have the great intangibles—character, experience, patience,
determination. We are not called Great Britain for nothing!”
A man of great endurance as well as fine words, aboard Ascania he once stood on the bridge for 75
hours without sleep during an exceptionally violent storm.
His tenacity was well rewarded, rising to eventually become
captain of Queen Mary in 1942.
Inspired by Illingworth’s love of all things traditionally
British, this malty concoction is the quintessential rural
pub experience enshrined in cocktail form.

COMMODORE SIR IVAN THOMPSON
KB (1894 — 1970)
Raised in the constant presence of Liverpool’s industrious shipyards, it is perhaps no surprise that Thompson grew into a seafaring life in steam—nor that he became a near fanatical Liverpool Football Club supporter.
Assuming command of Queen Elizabeth in 1951 and Queen Mary a year later, he remained insistent that the latest football scores be telegraphed and delivered to him on the bridge every Sunday.
Blending Liverpool Gin and the colours of his cherished club, this vibrant cocktail distils the very essence of that which Thompson held most dear. Liverpool Gin • Vanilla Vodka •
