We have just had our first CGP state board meeting and a very successful officers training the weekend of February 4.

The board voted to increase our service hour goal to 70,000 this year and continue what we started last year with not having a membership goal number. We are however encouraging each chapter to maintain or increase membership when compared to 2011. We also voted to raffle off a 2012 Kia Sorrento with tickets being sold between June 1 and September 6 with the drawing being held at the Energy Exchange meeting on Sept 6. The raffle will benefit Electric Kids.

As far as officers training, we had 154 people in attendance and shared a tremendous amount of information and ideas. Paul and Karen Bowers attended as well as Mike Anderson and Jeff Petrea, all showing their support and encouragement for the year. We ended the day with a great motivational speech by Martha Lanier, author of Pink Lemonade, who challenged us to overcome our fears, use the skills of those around us, and live our best life.

Don’t forget to join the Citizens of Georgia Power Group on Yammer to share upcoming events, meetings, projects, or best practices across the state. Go to Yammer.com to learn more and to signup. You don’t want to miss an upcoming Yammerwith Paul.

Many of the employees chose to join or rejoinduring the breakfast.

Jefferson Street set a goal to prepare 200 meals for thehomeless through their annual Lunch for Lunch project.Employees donated items to help pack lunches for the homeless through donations to the Crossroads charity.Fifty-five volunteers came together during their lunch hourand assembled 730 sandwiches and 690 complete lunchBags which also included fruit. They were delivered to Crossroads. Here’s what a note of thanks said…

“We are truly honored that your team chose Crossroads to assist. Sorry I did not bring a larger vehicle but I had no idea there would be that many. Thank goodness you had a van!!!! “Thank you” sounds like such a trite thing to say so I wish I could ‘box up’ the joy you are bringing to those we serve but there would not be a box large enough to contain that.”
