Establishment of State Frozen Semen Production & Training Institute, Patan The State Frozen Semen Production & Training Institute was inaugurated on 23rd June,

2010 at Patan.

This prime institute was inaugurated by Shri Dilip Sanghani, Hon. Minister Agriculture &

Co-operation, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Cow Breeding in the presence of Hon. Chief

Minister, Gujarat State (The Hon. Cabinet Minister, Revenue Department, Road &

Building, Disaster Management, Woman & Child Development) Shrimati Anandiben Patel

as a Chairman of the Inaugural function.

The whole project was funded under “National Project on Cattle & Buffalo Breeding”

(NPCBB).

This is the only prime institute of Government of Gujarat which is producing & supplying

Frozen Semen Doses for Artificial Insemination to various institutes under Department of

A.H. This institute is fully managed by “Gujarat Livestock Development Board”.

This institute is classified by Central Monitoring Unit of government of India as “A”

grade Institute.

An Overview of State Frozen Semen Production & Training Institute, Patan

To produce Frozen Semen Doses from High pedigree Bulls of various breed.

Objectives:

To supply Frozen Semen Doses to Semen Banks/ AI centres of state government as per requirement.

To impart training to AI workers to provide doorstep facility of A.I. to farmers of state in interior villages.

Human Resource Development by giving Administrative, Technical and Refresher Training to officers and Employees of Department of A.H.

This institute is possessing about 91.23 Hectare of revenue land which is secured by Wall and barbed wire.

Infrastructure Facility:

This institute is facilitated with Administrative Building which is duly facilitated with fully Airconditioned Auditorium, Conference Hall, Computer Training Room, two training room and offices for staff. Hostel Building, Security room and Biosecurity Change Room are other structures existing outside Biosecurity zone.

This institute is facilitated with Biosecurity Zone. Biosecurity zone is covered with separate white wiremash fencing which includes Laboratory building, Eight Bull sheds (Capacity 192 Bulls) and collection shed. In this Biosecurity zone all type of Biosecurity measures right from tyre wash, hand wash to restricted entry are followed strictly as per the norms of Central Monitoring Unit, Government of India. There is worker amenity for workers of FSS.

Implementation of National Dairy Plan Phase-I

Looking to the world class infrastructure facility, dedicated staff and quality production of Frozen Semen Doses from various 10 prestigious breeds of Cattle and Buffalo, Government of India has sanctioned Rs. 566.51 Lac from World Bank sponsored National Dairy Plan, Phase-I under sub component of strengthening of Semen Station. The detail of fund allocation is as follow.

Human Resource Development Activities at SFSPTI, Patan

GLDB has state of art training center at State Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute –Patan working under Department of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat State. This centre is having modern facilities to impart training to the participants on all aspects of Animal Husbandry and allied topics. The center is organizing in house training on different subjects as per the requirement. The skill enhancement of professionals and para-workers in the delivery of animal breeding services is one of the key components of the project. The professionals have to be trained on treatment of infertility, Frozen Semen Technology, breeding soundness of bulls etc. While for Para-workers/Private A.I workers (Gopalmitra) and Livestock Inspectors the training was primarily intended to refresh the skills and upgrade knowledge of artificial insemination. The training for professionals aimed at upgrading the technical skill in different disciplines of bovine breeding.

To provide door step AI facilities in the interior, rural, undeveloped area, Gopalmitra Training Programme is conducted at State Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute, Patan to train Goplamitra for Artificial Insemination work. After successful completion of Training Programme, Goplamitra is equipped with Liquid Nitrogen Container, Semen Doses, A.I. Equipments and Liquid Nitrogen. During the year 2017-18 Panchamrut Dairy sponsored Gopalmitra training programme is organized and trained 24 Gopalmitra.
