WATER
Service Interruptions 99.93% of customers experienced NO SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS.
For the week, there were 22 main leaks and 440 service interruptions.
Residential Water Conservation Savings: Rebates for Rain Barrels and Cisterns LADWP continues to improve awareness of water use and encourage customers to largely embrace and implement water conservation. Collecting and re-using rainwater for lawns and gardens minimizes the amount of water flowing into storm drains, sewer systems and local waterways. From July to September 2018, LADWP distributed 5 cisterns and 45 rain barrels to residential customers helping to save approximately 41,300 gallons of water.
Water Quality Headworks Complex To ensure regulatory compliance with federal drinking water regulations, LADWP must replace or cover all open air reservoirs, and the new underground Headworks Reservoir Complex will replace the Silver Lake and Ivanhoe reservoirs. Headworks has two underground reservoirs, Headworks East and the new Headworks West, with a combined capacity of 110 million gallons – which is equivalent to approximately 166 Olympic-size swimming pools – and will provide reliable, high quality water to LADWP customers. The total estimated cost of construction is $353 million. When completed in 2021, Headworks reservoir will be the largest underground water storage facility in the western United States.
NEWS & NOTES
2018 Owens Valley Stakeholder Tours Each year LADWP offers a two-day Los Angeles Aqueduct Owens Valley Tours to its various stakeholders and ratepayers. The tour is designed to familiarize stakeholders with some of the key LADWP facilities and operations, located in the Owens Valley and Mono Basin, that help deliver water and power safely and reliably to Los Angeles.
In 2018, 160 participants attended the tour, which follows the 223-mile route that the city’s water travels down from the Eastern Sierras, Owens River and through the Los Angeles Aqueduct. If you are interested in joining a tour for 2019 please email [email protected] for more information.
POWER
Outages
98.20% customers experienced NO OUTAGES.
For the week, there were 207 outage incidents, affecting 25,899 customers, including:
10 full and partial circuit outages that affected 5,990 customers mostly in Pacoima, Vermont Vista, San Pedro, Sherman Oaks, and Koreatown.
21 transformer outages that affected 392 customers mostly in Sherman Oaks, Hollywood Hills West, Harbor Gateway, Hancock Park, and Watts.
Energy Savings & Incentives LADWP continues to assist commercial customers in saving energy and money. During the week of October 26 - November 1, 2018 approximately 1,857 megawatt-hours (MWh) were saved through the Commercial Lighting Incentives Program and the Custom Performance Program. That amount of energy savings reduces greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to avoiding 703 metric tons per year, or taking 152 gas-fueled vehicles off the road on an annually.
Residential Consumer Rebate Program
LADWP offers the Consumer Rebate Program (CRP) to residential customers to promote the use of energy-efficient products. This program is designed to both educate and encourage LADWP residential customers to purchase and install qualifying products in their home. Qualifying items include attic insulation, cool roofs, residential windows, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, variable speed or flow pool pump and motor, and whole house fans. For September 2018, the CRP saved approximately 804 MWh. That amount of savings offsets energy for about 134 homes and is equivalent to taking 66 automobiles off the road and avoiding 304 metrics tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
