About 40 cars participated in the races, with the temperature about 70 at race time and the winds dropped from more than 20 mph down to below 10 mph through the main s events. That was an improvement from the 50 mph winds and tem- peratures below 50 for the races on May 10. In the mini stocks, Josh Frecks (car 5) of Stratton, Colo., won his second main event. Cory Navarro (6) of Burlington was sec- ond, ahead of Joseph Eli (150) and Tyrel Smith (12), both of Goodland. Frecks’ brother Timothy (11) fell to the bottom of the pack after winning the main event the first weekend and finishing third May 10. Randy Tipton (95) of Weskan won the International Motor Con- test Association stock car class ahead of Marshall Hoppe (11H) of Goodland. Tipton had been second in both previous races this season at Sherman County Speedway. Goodland drivers continue to dominate the econo class, but a different driver has won each of the mains this season. The IMCA hobby stock class added a few cars, with Richard Boon (33) of Benkelman, Neb., winning the main. Second went to Allen Kurth (38) of Colby, third was Joey Snethen (S98) of Goodland and fourth was Allen Snethen (21) of Colby. In the IMCA modified class, the numbers were down a bit, as some top drivers were taking part in other racing events. Brady Coen (3) of Wiley, Colo., took advantage to win the main event. Coen had car troubles in the first two races, finish- ing next to last twice. Nick Tubbs (737) of Colby was second, Ronnie Hill (4) of Sharon Springs third and Troy Plummer (11) fourth. Tubbs had won the opening night main, and had fin- ished eighth on May 10 when the Blood, Sweat and Tears cars from Colorado were at the Sherman County Speedway. Names change on race winners board Goodland native signs at University of Wyoming A Goodland native is joining the Cowgirls vol- leyball team of the Univer- sity of Wyoming and has garnered high praise from coaches, who look forward to working with her and seeing what she can do for their team. Dani Bedore, daughter of Dustin and Barb Bedore of Goodland and grand- daughter of Waldo and Glenna Jarmin of Edson, graduated from Brewster High School in 2007 and played her freshman sea- son at the University of South Carolina. She has signed to play for Wyoming this fall and will have three years of eligibility to play on the collegiate level. “Dani is going to bring us Division I experience at a very high level,” said Wyo- ming Head Coach Carrie Yerty. “She is a very versa- tile six-rotation player who can pass and attack or set and run an offense. “She is very competitive with a high volleyball IQ and will help elevate our program immediately. I am extremely excited to have her join our Cowgirl pro- gram and look forward to watching her develop into one of the Mountain West premier players.” Bedore, a 5’ 9” tall outside hitter and setter, played in 29 matches along with 15 starts her freshman year at the University of South Carolina. She av- eraged 1.98 kills, while tallying 83 digs and 53 total blocks. The Gamecocks finished the 2007 season 14-15 overall and 7-13 in the South- eastern Conference. She recorded a career high 15 kills against Maryland Sept. 1 and set a career mark with seven assists and eight digs against Auburn Sept. 14. Athree-timeAll-State selection while playing volleyball at Brewster High School, Bedore also earned First-Team All-Conference and All-Area honors fol- lowing her freshman, sophomore and senior years. She took home All- Region team accolades as a club volleyball player five straight years from 2002 to 2006. Her club volleyball squad qualified for the Junior Olympics National Championship Open Division four straight years starting in 2004. Besides volleyball, Bedore lettered in bas- ketball three years and earned an- other two in track and field. Her basketball honors included All- League honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006, as well as the All-State team those same years. She also picked up Second Team All-Area recogni- tion as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Bedore qualified for the state track and field meet in the long jump and triple jump her freshman year and was a member of Brewster’s state meet-qualifying 4x100-meter relay squad in 2005. An excellent student, she was listed on her high school’s academic honor roll all four years. She is the daughter of Dustin and Barb Bedore. Her brother Jordan plays center and is the team captain for the Kan- sas State University football team, and her sister Taryn will be a seventh grader at Brewster this fall. Dani Bedore is the fourth student- athlete to sign with the Cowgirls this season, as they signed Lauren Curtis (6-2, rightside hitter, Redmond, Wash.), Megan Johnson (5-9, setter, Lakewood, Calif.) and Nikky Sapp (5-3, Libero, Arvada, Colo.) during the early signing period. “I am very excited for the op- portunity to help turn the Wyo- ming volleyball program around,” said Assistant Coach Jill Stucky. “Our entire Wyoming volleyball staff is newly hired, and we have a very big vision. That vision starts with Goodland native Dani Bedore. “Dani will make an immediate impact on our program and in the Mountain West Conference. She will help us recruit more great play- ers and help us make the University of Wyoming a place known for its volleyball. The 2008 season will be a rebuilding year for us, but with Dani’s help, the 2009 season will have be one of tremendous growth. Along with her teammates, Dani will help bring Wyoming volleyball back to life.” Stucky said she has been watch- ing Bedore from a college recruiter’s perspective for about seven years. “I always knew she would turn into an extremely competitive ath- lete with a great mind for the game,” Stucky said. “Throughout the years, she has put herself on high-level teams to develop her skills and because of this has afforded herself some great opportunities. “Although I did recruit her while I was a Jayhawk at Kansas, she chose to find adventure at a distant college.
