PurposeoftheStarDancersTheStarDancersisanexcitingdanceperformanceteamthatincludesBowiestudentsingrades9th-12thwhoperformatanintermediatelevel.ThepurposeoftheStarDancersistoprovideapositivehighschoolexperiencethroughdance.StarDancerswillencourageloyalschoolspirit,highacademicstandards,andhighmoralvaluesamongitsmembers.Asateamwewillworkonthedevelopmentofdancetechnique,self-confidence,self-discipline,andsportsmanshipineachmember.StarDancersistheperfectchoiceforBowiestudentswhowanttobalancetheirpassionfordancewithtimeforotheracademicorextracurricularactivities.

StarDancersJuniorVarsityDanceTeamExpectationsStarDancersmembersareexpectedtofollowallrulesandguidelinesaswrittenintheStarDancersandJBHShandbook.TIME:WhileweplantomakethetimecommitmentforStarDancersminimal,therewillbefunctionsthatwerequirethememberstobeapartof.Thisisateamactivity,soeachmembermustbepresentforarehearsaloraperformance,etc.–ifonememberislate,therestoftheteamisoftenleftwaiting.Parentsmaybeaskedtogiveasmallamountoftimetosewcostumes,cookforoneofsocialevents,volunteerforvariousactivitiesthroughouttheyear,andmoreimportantly,toattendasmanyofyourstudent’sperformancesaspossible.MONEY:EveryeffortwillbemadetokeepexpensesforStarDancersreasonable.Nochildwillbeturnedawayforfinancialreasons. StarDancerQualificationsTeamQualificationsInordertobeeligibletobeaStarDancer,astudentmust:

• Beinafreshman,sophomore,junior,orseniorstandingatthetimeofmembership.• Havethecorrectnumberofcreditsforthenumberofyearsofattendanceinhighschool.Amembermaynotbebehindinearningcreditstowardgraduation.

• Haveanoverallscholasticaverageof2.0forallcoursestakeninthecurrentyearofhighschool.• TurninacompleteauditionapplicationtobeapprovedbytheDirectors.• Auditionbeforeapanelof judgeswhowillratethecandidateonthefollowingcriteria:rhythm,memory,projection,flexibility,andcoordination.

• BewillingtoabidebytheStarDancerCodeofConduct.• Attendallrehearsalsandperformancesthroughouttheentire.• AbidebytherulesandregulationsofAustinISD.• CooperatewiththeDirectorsinpromotinggoodcitizenshipintheschoolandinthecommunity.• CooperatewithDirectorsandtheteamindevelopinggoodsportsmanshipamongallstudentsandbetweenschools.

• Refrainfromparticipationinanyactivitythatwouldembarrassafellowstudentorcausehim/herphysicaloremotionaldiscomfortorharm.

• Resigngracefullyuponfailuretoliveuptotherequirementsofmembership.• Demonstratehis/herabilitytoperformagivenroutineasdeterminedbytheDirectorswiththeassistanceoftheOfficersinanaudition.

• AuditionforeveryStarDancersperformance.MaintenanceofMembershipGradeRequirements:Gradeswillbecheckedeachsixweeksduringthefulltermtodetermineifeverymemberiseligibletoremainontheteam.

1.InaccordancewithUIL"nopass/noplay"rules,anymemberfailingacourse(belowa70)willbeineligiblefor6weeksunlessthestudentgainseligibilityafter3weeks,bypassingALLoftheirclasseswitha70orabove.Duringthattimethememberwilldressoutandparticipateinallpracticesandevents,butmaynotperform.**Pre-APandAPclasseswillbewaiveduponthecompletionofthewaiverformwhichcanbepickedupfromtheDirectors.

2.IfamemberfailsthesixweeksreportingperiodtwoconsecutivetimesinanycumulativeyearthentheywillberemovedfromtheStarDancersprogramfortheremainderoftheyear.SpecialcaseswillbedecidedbytheDirectors.

GradeProbation–Failure:

1. Probationwilllastforaperiodof3weeks(or6weeksifeligibilityisnotregained)forthedateassigned,duringwhichtime,thememberwillnotperformasamemberofthegroup.However,theymustattendallpractices,events,and fundraiserswith thegroupuntileligibilityhasbeenregained.Themembermustcontinue todressoutincorrectdanceattirewhileonprobation.

2. Amemberwhoisplacedongradeprobationtwoconsecutivetimeswithinthecurrentschoolyearwillberemovedfromtheteam.

AttendancePolicy Inordertomaximizerehearsaltime,astrictattendancepolicymustbeinplace.AsaStarDancer,youhavean

obligationtoyourfellowteammatesto:• BeabletoattendALLscheduledrehearsalsbeforeand/orafterschool,nights,andweekends.• Beatallrehearsalsforaperformanceduringtheweekoftheperformance.• Beatschoolthedayofaperformance.• Acceptthatifsheistardyorabsentfromarehearsalduringtheweekofaperformancetheymaybereplacedorcutfromthedancepiece.

• AttendadditionalrehearsalscalledbytheDirectorsasdeemednecessaryforthequalityoftheperformance.

• ContactBOTHDirectorsviaemailinadvanceofanabsence.• AgreetoremaintheentirelengthofafunctionunlesspriorarrangementsaremadewithbothDirectors.• Understandthatwork-relatedabsencesareunexcused.• Beabletoattendallrehearsalsthroughouttheschoolyear.• AllStarDancersmustabidebytheBowieHighSchoolattendancepolicies.

Appointments shouldnotbe scheduledduring rehearsal times, performances, contests, or competitions.

Unlesstheyareanemergency,theyareunexcused.Makinguptestsandotherschoolworkmustbedoneonyourowntimeandnotduringrehearsal.InjuryandIllness Whenanaccidentorinjuryoccurs,itmustbereportedtotheteacherincharge.Theteacherwillthenreportittotheschoolnurseandanyothernecessaryauthorities.Propermedicalreferralswillbemadewhennecessary.

TransportationandStudentBehaviorBusTransportation TheAustin ISD’sStudentBehaviorCodeappliesequally throughout theDistrict, regardlessofwhere theincidentoccurs.Inappropriatebehavioronabusorschooltripwillbetreatedwiththesamelevelofscrutinyasinappropriatebehavior in the classroomandwill lead to appropriate school consequences as spelledout in theBehaviorCodeand/orsuspensionorterminationfrombusriding.Allbusridersreceiveacopyofthebusrulesatthebeginningofschool.

• Forsafety,thereareadditionalpoliciesthatapplytobustravel.• Beontime.• Privatevehicleswillnotbeused.AllStarDancersareexpectedtousethebusseswhenprovided,bothtoandfromevents.

• TheStarDancerswilltravelasaunitonalltrips.IfaStarDancerhasagoodreasontoreturnfromatripbyothermeansoftransportation,thestudentmustsubmitawrittenpermittoaDirector,signedbythestudent’sparents/guardians.Thispermitmustbeprovided24hoursinadvance.Theparents/guardiansmustseetheDirectorsatthetimeofdepartureinordertoauthenticatethenote.

• Studentswillnottouchorhangontothebusinanymannerbeforeboardingorafterdischarge.• Anadultchaperonewillbeoneachbus.• NooneexceptDirectors,StarDancers,andchaperoneswillbepermittedonthebus.• Studentswillbeheldresponsibleforanydestructionorvandalismtotheseats,windows,orbusequipment.• Noglasscontainerswillbeallowedonbuses.• Noanimalsorpetsareallowedonthebus.Objectsthatthedriverdeemsdangeroustootherriderswillnotbeallowedonthebus.

• Noflashphotographyisallowedduringteamtransportation.• Throwing anything or hanging arms/heads/legs out of thewindow is prohibited. Keep hands, feet, andobjectstoyourself.

• Busesaretobetreatedwithcareandalltrashistobepickedupbeforeexitingthebus.Keepthebusclean!

• Talkingmustbelimitedtotalking,noyellingorscreaming,asthisdistractsthedriver.Noextremenoiseswillbetolerated.Anymusicdeviceswillbelistenedtowithpersonalheadphones.

• Studentsmustbequietwhenthebusapproachesandcrossesrailroadtracks.• Followbusdriver’sdirectionsatalltimes.

StarDancerTripBehavior

StarDancertripsareschoolsponsoredandthereforealsofallunderschoolpolicyandrules.OnlyEXEMPLARYconductwillbeacceptablefromtheStarDancersandchaperoneswhenatafootballgame,contestordaytrip.StarDancerswillbepoliteandcourteoustootherteams,educators,andanyonetheyencounter.InappropriateandoverlyboisterousbehaviorwillnotbetoleratedbyanyStarDanceratafootballgame,contest,ordaytrip.TherewillbeNOsmoking,useofdrugs,alcohol,ortobaccoatanytimeatanyStarDancerorAustinISDsponsoredfunction.Nooneistoleavethegroupforanyreason,untilproperlydismissedbytheDirectors.ParentTransportationofStudents

Attimes,parentswillbeaskedtovolunteertheirtimetohelptransportstudentstoorfromanevent.Parentsareaskedtowaituntilallstudentsareaccountedforandthenproceedinacaravantotheevent.Thisensuresallofourstudentsaretogetherandsafeforthedurationoftheride.Atnopointshouldthecaravanpullover,unlessthereisanemergency.Ifonecarpullsover,theneveryoneinthecaravanpullsover.

StayingUp-to-Date(HandlingForms)StudentsareresponsiblyfortakinghomeformstheyreceivefromtheStarDancersDirectors.Theseforms

shouldbefilledoutinatimelymannerandreturnedassoonaspossibletothedesignatedperson.

MuchoftheinformationwillbeontheStarDancerswebsite.ThecalendarontheStarDancerswebsite.TheStarDancerswillsignupfor‘Remind’texts,tokeeptheteam‘intheknow’shouldachangeoradjustmentinschedulebenecessary.Itiseachindividual’sresponsibilitytocheckyouremailandthewebsiteregularlyfornewinformation.

StarDancerCodeofConduct

Theadministration,facultyandstaffassumethatsecondarystudentsaremature,behaveresponsiblywhileatschool,andthatalldisciplinemannerscanbehandledinacalmandreasonablemanner.Inordertomaintainanatmosphereconducivetolearning,certainstandardsofbehaviorarenecessary.Standardproceduresfordisciplinaryinfractionswillbeenforcedfairly,promptly,andequitablytoeverystudent.Inorderforyoutoknowwhatstandardsofbehaviorareexpected,thefollowinginformationisprovided.

• Studentswillbeexpectedtohavetheproperframeofmindpriortoandduringrehearsalsandperformances,avoidinginappropriatebehavior.

• Studentswillbepreparedandontimeforclassandrehearsal.• Food,gum,ordrink(withtheexceptionofwater)isNEVERpermittedinarehearsal.• KnockbeforeenteringtheDirectors’offices.Nostudentistooccupythedancegymorstudiowithoutpermission.NostudentispermittedtousetheDirectors’computers,telephones,orcopymachinewithoutpermission.

• Takecareoftheequipmentanduniformsyouareusing.• LoudandboisterousactivitybyaStarDancerwheninpublicisnotappropriate.• StarDancersserveasgood-willambassadorsfortheschoolandcommunity.PoliteandcourteousbehaviorisacredittotheBowieHighSchoolDanceDepartment,theschool,andtotheparents.Becourteousandrespectfulatalltimes…thereisalwayssomeonewatchingandlistening.

• PDA(PublicDisplaysofAffection)willNOTbepermittedin/nearanydancefacilities,ontrips,oronofficialStarDancerfunctions.

• Useofdrugs,alcohol,andtobaccoisstrictlyforbiddenandisgroundsfordismissalfromtheteam.• StarDancerswillkeepanexceptionalappearance.Haircolorsthatareunnatural,hairstylesthataredistracting,andclothingthatdoesnotfallunderBowieHighSchooldress-codeareprohibited.

• Whileinuniform,therearetobenovisiblepiercings.Spacersmustbeused.Band-aidswillnolongerbeallowedasaformofcoveringupthepiercing.

• Theuseofinappropriatelanguageorprofanitywillnotbetolerated.Followallschoolanddistrictrules.Anyinfractionofconduct,attitude,orresponsibilitywillbedealtwithinoneormoreofthefollowingmanners:

a. Conferencewithstudentb. Conferencewithparentc. Conferencewithgrade-levelprincipald. Probationarycontracte. ExpulsionfromtheStarDancersorganizationf. Other,asdesignatedbytheadministration

SocialMediaPolicyAsaStarDancer,youareexpectedtomaintainapristineappearance,bothinpersonandonline.Atnotime

willaStarDancerinferorpostanythingonlinenegativeabouttheStarDancerOrganization,fellowstudents,teachers,teammates,parents,Directorsoranycontestorrehearsaloutcome.YourpresenceonanysocialmediaplatformisadirectreflectionontheStarDancerOrganizationthatwillneverbeerasedfromtheinternet.Whatyouposttoday,canbefoundyearslaterandcanbecomeadetrimenttoyourcharacterandtheStarDancers.NegativeonlineactivitywillnottoleratedbytheStarDancersorganization.

Maintainingahigherstandardofconductwillalsoincludeensuringthatmembers’personalwebsitesare

appropriate.Theinternetisaworldwide,publiclyaccessibleformofcommunication.AnycommunicationsuchasbutnotlimitedtoSnapchat,Twitter,Facebook,Instagram,inappropriatetexting,etc…appearingontheinternetispublicdomain,evenifitismarkedprivate.StarDancersareresponsiblefortheirpersonalwebsitesandpostings,aswellaspostingsonotherstudents’websites.Theareasofappropriatenesswillinclude,butarenotlimitedtolanguage(abbreviatedoralludingtonegative,lewd,vulgar,orobscenecommentsaboutanyindividuals),pictures,suggestiveposes,clothing,andreferencetoalcohol,drugs,andtobacco.Any“finstagrams”orspamaccountsmadebyStarDancerswillnotbetolerated.Anymemberwhoiscaughtwithinappropriate,negative,lewd,vulgar,orobscene,sexualpictures,comments,orstatusesonanysocialnetworkswillberemovedfromtheextra-curricularportionsoftheprogramforatimeperiodestablishedbetweentheDirectorsandtheAdministration.Reinstatementwillbeevaluatedaftertheendoftheschoolyear.Alcohol,Drug,andTobaccoPolicy

Thepossession,sale,distribution,oruse,ofanyamountofalcohol,marijuana,hallucinogenicdrugs,oranyothercontrolledsubstanceontheschoolgrounds,intheschoolbuilding,onbuses,atanyschool-sponsoredevent,orduringanyothertimewhenthestudentisundertheadministrativejurisdictionoftheschool,whetheronoroffoftheschoolgrounds,shallbeprohibited.

Anyevidence(publicorprivate,includingsocialnetworkingsites,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Snapchat,

etc.)oftheuseorpossessionofalcohol,orillegaldrugsatanytimewhileamemberofBowieHighSchoolStarDancersincludingweekends,evenings,holidaysandsummerwillresultinthefollowing:

IfaStarDancerisinvolvedinanyincidentincludingdrugs,alcohol,ortobacco,whichresultsinsuspensionorexpulsionfromBowieHighSchool,theywillpermanentlylosetheirmembershipontheteam.Inaddition,ifaviolationoccursonanofficialStarDancerstrip,theStarDancersmemberwillbesenthomeimmediatelyatherownexpenseinaccordancewithschool-widetravelpolicies.

Astudentsuspendedduetoanalcoholordrugviolationissubjecttothezerotolerancerule.TheStar

Dancerspridethemselvesinbeingsuperiorcitizenstoourcommunity,toourschool,andtoourselves.Thistypeofoffenseisnottoleratedbyourprogram.Youwillberemovedfromtheextra-curricularportionsoftheprogramforatimeperiodestablishedbetweentheDirectorsandtheAdministration.Reinstatementwillbeevaluatedaftertheendoftheschoolyear.

AllprincipalsandDirectorsarerequiredtocooperatefullywithlawenforcementagenciesandareto

reporttothemanyandallinformationthatwouldbeconsideredpertinentorbeneficialintheireffortstostopthesale,possession,anduseofillegaldrugsandcontrolledsubstance.

FirstOffense:An immediateparentconferencewith theStarDancersDirectorsandtheBowieHighSchooladministrationwilloccur.Noexceptions.PossessionorusageofthesesubstancescanhavedireconsequencesforthestudentandalsoreflectsupontheStarDancersandBowieHighSchool.TheStarDancersmemberandtheirparentsmaybeaskedtoenrollinanearlyinterventionandpreventionprogram.AttendancemustbedocumentedinwritingandgiventotheStarDancerDirectors.AnyexpensewillbetheresponsibilityoftheStarDancersmember,parents,orguardians.ThememberwillbeputonprobationforaperiodoftimetobedeterminedbytheDirectorsandBowieHighSchooladministration.SecondOffense:TheStarDancerwillbepermanentlyremovedfromtheteam.AreviewboardmadeupoftheStarDancersDirectors,BowieHighSchooladministrator,andanotherBowieHighSchoolstaffmembershallmaketheinitialdeterminationofwhetheraviolationoftheStarDancersDrug,Alcohol,&TobaccoPolicyhasoccurred.SexualHarassment

Inappropriateverbalorphysicalcontactofasexualnatureatschoolisprohibitedbyschoolboardpolicy.Sexualharassmentisprohibitedagainstmembersofthesamesexaswellasagainstmembersoftheoppositesex.Anystudentwhoexperiencesasexuallyoffensivecommentoractionbyanotherstudentoradultatschoolorschool-sponsoredfunctionisstronglyencouragedtotellaparent,teacher,counselor,orprincipal.

Parents/guardianswhohavereasontobelievethattheirchildhasbeensubjectedtosexualharassment

shouldreportthisbehaviortotheprincipal.ThistypeofoffenseisnottoleratedbytheStarDancersorganization.Youwillberemovedfromtheextra-curricularportionsoftheprogramforatimeperiodestablishedbetweentheDirectorsandtheAdministration.Reinstatementwillbeevaluatedaftertheendoftheschoolyear.

Bullying/Hazing

Bullyingisunwanted,aggressivebehavioramongschoolagedchildrenthatinvolvesarealorperceivedpowerimbalance.Thebehaviorisrepeated,orhasthepotentialtoberepeated,overtime.Bullyingincludesactionssuchasmakingthreats,spreadingrumors,attackingsomeonephysicallyorverbally,andexcludingsomeonefromagrouponpurpose(http://www.stopbullying.gov/what-is-bullying/).

Hazingisanyactiontakenoranysituationcreatedintentionallythatcausesembarrassment,harassmentor

ridiculeandrisksemotionaland/orphysicalharmtomembersofagrouporteam,whethernewornot,regardlessoftheperson’swillingnesstoparticipate(http://hazingprevention.org/home/hazing/facts-what-hazing-looks-like/).

Bullyingand/orHazingarenottoleratedbytheStarDancersorganization.Ifyoufeelasifyouarebeing

bulliedorhazed,pleasenotifyparentsandDirectorsimmediately.Anyonefoundtobebullyingorhazingwillberemovedfromtheextra-curricularportionsoftheprogramforatimeperiodestablishedbetweentheDirectorsandtheAdministration.Reinstatementwillbeevaluatedaftertheendoftheschoolyear.TheDemeritSystemDemeritshelptoreinforcetheregulationssetforthbytheStarDancerHandbookaswellastheBowieHighSchoolCodeofConduct.SectionI–AssignmentandRecords

1. Anaccumulationof15demeritsatanytimeintheyearwillbecauseforremovalfromtheorganization.2. Onlythedirectorscangivedemeritstoteammembers.Thedirectorskeepalogofthedemerits.Theteammembermust signoff on thedemerit they received.Refusal to sign for thedemeritwill notnegate thedemerit.

3. AmembercanreceivedemeritsanytimeduringmembershiponStarDancersincludingweekends,eveningsandschoolbreaks/holidays.

4. Demeritsstartthefirstdayoflinecampandendthelastdayofschool:June–June.

5. Demeritscannotberemoved.Theystartoveratthebeginningofeachdanceteamsemester,(Summer/FallandSpring).

StarDancerExpensesTherearetwoseparatetypesofexpensesforStarDancers.

1.Uniforms–Requireditemsthatmustbepaidinfullatthebeginningofthe2019-2020schoolyear.Thethesearerequireditemsthatmustbepurchasedonceselectedasamemberofthedanceteam.Therewillfundraisingopportunitiesprovidedthroughouttheschoolyear.

2.FairShare–Fundraisedorpaidthroughoutthe2019-2020schoolyear.Duedatesdirectlycorrelatewithfundraisingopportunities.TherewillbetwoFairSharepayments,onepersemester,for$75.00each.FairSharewillcoverthecostofcontestentryfees,costumes,props,andchoreographyfortheteam.Aftergiving100%effortinfundraising,ifanyfamilyisfinanciallyunabletofulfilltherequirementsforattireandequipment,parentsshouldvisitwiththedirectors. IfyourstudentdecidesnottocontinueintheStarDancerprogramafterthefirsttwoweeksofschoolorisremovedatANYtimeduringtheschoolyear,theyareobligatedtopaythefullFairShareamountforthe

entireyear.Payments

• Allpaymentchecksshouldbemadepayableto:BowieStarDancers.• AllchecksshouldincludetheStarDancer'snameandthepurposeforpaymentonthememoline.• Paymentsshouldbemadeontime.

TheDirectors

TheconstitutionissubjecttochangeatanytimeduetoTexasEducationAgencyrulechanges.Ifnecessary,theDirectorsmayalterrulesintheconstitutionaccordingtothesituation.(EX:Amemberbecomesillatanout-of-townfootballgame.Thememberwillbeallowedtobetransportedhomewithfriendsaftercontactingtheparent.)TheDirectorsmaybeasked tomakedecisionsabout thingsnot itemized in thisconstitution. Insuchcases, theDirectorswillfollowtheguidelinespresentedinthedocumenttotheextentpossible.IfatanytimetheDirectorsfeeltheneedtoalteranypartoftheconstitutionforthegoodoftheorganization,theymaydosowithoutpriornoticeordiscussion. The Directors and administration will deal with any special situations that may arise and are notspecificallyaddressedinthisconstitutiononanindividualbasis.ThesedecisionswillbemadeinamannerthattheyfeelbestbenefitstheENTIREorganization.
