ThepercentageforeleventhgradestudentspassingtheWashingtonComprehensiveAssessmentofScience(WCAS)testwas22.4%.Wedidnotmeetthesubgoalby50.2%.Thestudentsasagroupactuallyscoredloweraseleventhgradestudentsthanineighthgrade.However,59.8%ofthestudentsdidnottakethetest.Ofthestudentswhotookthetest,55.7%passedthetest.Thatwouldmeanweactuallymissedoursubgoalby16.8%.
Thisgoalinvolvedtwotargets–thefirstonewasfor100%ofstudentstomeetrequirement.Thegraduationrequirementsforstatetestschangedsothestudentsdidnotneedtopassthetesttograduate.Thesubgoalwastoincreasepercentofstudentspassingfrom69.6%to72.6%.
AsthetestwasnotagraduationrequirementfortheClassof2020,59.8%oftheclassdidnottakethetest.Whenyoufocusonthepercentageofstudentswhopassedthetest,wemissedoursubgoalby16.8%.Thetargetwasnotmetforthisgoal.Thefollowingitemswerecompletedforthisgoal.TheAgricultureScienceandSciencedepartmentscollaboratedandadjustedcurriculumtomeettheNextGenerationScienceStandards(NGSS)standardsforbothprograms.Thescienceteachersconductedtestpreplessonstohelppreparestudentsforthetest.Thescienceteachersfocusedonspecificsciencestrandsthatstudentsscoredlowerinpreviously.Themainreasonwedidnotmeetourtargetforthisgoalwasthatthetestwasnotrequiredforgraduation.Alargeportionoftheclassdidnottakethetest.Sincethetestwasnotrequired,studentsmaynothaveputforththeirbesteffortonthetest.

Outof296students,92.2%graduatedontimefortheClassof2019.Thepercentageofstudentscontinuingtheirhighschooleducationwas3%(mainlystudentsonanindividualeducationalplan).Thepercentageofstudentswhodroppedoutwas4.7%.
Thetargetwasfor100%ofstudentstograduateontime.
Thefollowingitemswerecompletedforthisgoal.WeencouragedstudentsandfamiliestouseSkywardtocheckstudentprogressintheirclasses.WesentoutweeklyalertsthroughSkywardwhenstudentshadmissingassignmentsorfailinggrades.Wesenthomemid-quarterprogressreportsforstudentswithgradesatClevelorbelow.Weidentifiedincoming9thgradestudentswhostruggledinmiddleschool.Wetriedtogetthemintointerventioncourses,suchasstudyskills,AlgebraI(Agileminds2periodblock),andEnglish9*(smallerfocusedclassforstrugglingstudents).Weprovidedalistofresourcesforfamilies(classroom,mentalhealth,substanceabuse,andmore).Weheldfamilymeetingswithstudentswhowerestruggling(academically,behaviorally,andmentally).Weheldmonthlyprofessionaldevelopmentsessionswiththeleadershipteamregardingacademicyouthdevelopment(partofAgileMindstraining).WehadasmallgroupofstaffinvolvedwithafocusgrouponAttentionDeficitDisorder(ADD)/AttentionDeficitHyperactivityDisorder(ADHD)andclassroominstructionalstrategies.AttendancewastrackedbytheDeanofStudents.Attendancealertsweresenttofamiliesthroughtheautodialerandletters.TheDeanofStudentsconductedparent/guardianconferences.TheDeanof
StudentshadstudentstaketheWashingtonAssessmentoftheRisksandNeedsofStudents(WARNS)assessmenttogaugewhatareastheywerestrugglingin.WecreatedandimplementedtheSpartansShowUpattendanceprogramtorewardstudentsforgoodclassattendance.Studentprogresswasmonitoredbythestudentsupportteam(administrators,nurse,counselors,studentsupportadvocate,graduationpreventionspecialist,andschoolpsychologists).Wedidnotmeetthisgoalas92.2%graduatedfortheclass.WehaveencouragedstudentswhowanttodropouttoentertheOpenDoorsprogram.Studentshavebeencontactedandfamilymeetingsheldtoencourageparticipationinthatprogram.Wealsohaveatransitionprogramforstudentsonanindividualeducationalplan(IEP).Thosestudentscanremaininschooluntilage21.

ThespecificareasofgrowthforStanwoodHighSchoolcenteraroundtwokeythings–24creditsgraduationrequirementandraisingthepercentageofspecificsubgroupsmeetingthenewOSPISIPgoals.StartingwiththeClassof2021,studentsmusttakeandpass24creditstograduatefromStanwoodHighSchool.Thestudentsalsohavenewlydevelopedpersonalizedpathwaystofollow,alongwithcompletingahighschoolandbeyondplan.Sinceweareonasix-perioddayschedule,thestudentscanonlyearn24creditsoverthecourseoffouryears.Thatdoesnotleavestudentsanyroomtofailasingleclass.Thereisasignificantneedforadditionalcreditretrievalcourses.Inthelasttwoyearswehaveadded30spotsperyeartooursummerschoolprogram.Forourcurrentjuniors,wehave60studentsnotontrackforgraduation.Forthecurrentsophomoreswehave37studentsnotontrack.Besidescreditretrievalandsummerschool,weneedtocomeupwithcreativewaystohelpstudentbemoresuccessfulandstayontrackforgraduatinginfouryears.Betweenthe10thand11thgradestudents,97classeswerefailedfirstsemesterand155classeswerefailedsecondsemester.Weneedtoaddressthemuchhighernumberofclassesfailedsecondsemester.English9and10courseswerefailedthemost.Thatalsoneedstobelookedintoastowhystudentsarefailingthoseclassesmorethanothercourses. Eachsemesterweneedtoreviewstudentgradesandcreateprogramstoprovidemoresupportforstudents.Thisyearwehavestartedaquarterlymathnighttoprovideadditionalsupportforstudentswiththeirmathskills.Wealsohavefivevolunteersthatareprovidingsupportinclassrooms.ThedistricthasaddedaparaeducatorspecificallytoworkwithEnglishLanguage(EL)students.Moreresourcesneedtobedevotedtoaddressingstudentattendanceconcerns–bothwithstudentsskippingandstudentexcusedabsencesaswell.Familiesneedtounderstandwhyattendanceatschoolisimportant.Thefinalareawillbetofocusonsubgroups.ThenewOfficeofSuperintendentofPublicInstruction(OSPI)SchoolImprovementPlan(SIP)goalsrequireustoincreasethepercentageofstudentsmeetingstandardinspecificsubgroups.Asaschool,wehavenotlookedatourdatabysubgroups.Wewillreviewspecificdatabysubgroupstoidentifywhatweneedtodotohelpstudentsbemoresuccessful.
