80 Years in the Making

That has been our theme for 2016 and it represents 80 years of providing safe, reliable electrical service to our customers. This represents the hard work of many people and the trust from each and every one of the customers served over the years. This effort is no small task as any business owner would attest. In a world of forever change, there are no guarantees of existence! Tech-nology is rapidly advancing and the consumer is forever looking for ‘The Next Greatest Thing’. *See note on page 3. Over my career, the industry

has faced many challenges and difficult times. There have been threats from big business to un-ravel Public Power in Nebraska. I have learned that a solid foun-dation is the key to long term success. This foundation was built by many hard working men and women across the state of Nebraska!

The Public Power Districts across this great state were estab-

lished for one main purpose and that is to serve the customers. As long as our customers see value in our product, we will be here to provide it. I would like to thank you all for working with us and we look forward to the many years to come!

Building Project at SCPPD HeadquartersAnother milestone for 2016 is the building project that was completed in this last year. It is safe to say that our

employees are very excited to have this project behind us and now we can begin to utilize the new space. We have already benefited from the additional warehouse space as winter arrived in December. The office space and lineman area has been welcomed by all and hopefully the change to our night deposit is helpful to our customers. As I have mentioned before, this project was the effort of many; including contractors, employees and the Board of Directors. To them I want to say Thank You!

Additional ProjectsThe re-building of Pilger continued in 2016. The majority of our infrastructure is rebuilt and in place. The work

continues as we hook up customers that are in the process of rebuilding. We also continue to work with NEMA to get disaster funds to fund this re-build.

The new Sub 6 that feeds the town of Stanton was energized in 2016. This new substation will allow for growth and improve the reliability for customers in the town of Stanton. This project consisted of constructing a new substa-tion that would replace the existing one.

We have also entered into the social media arena by launching our Facebook page. We are able to quickly com-municate with those using this form of communication. This allows us to easily reach those customers and get them information in a timely fashion. If you are interested, please join us on Facebook.

Also I think it is important to note that it was another good year in terms of rates! This is always a priority of mine along with our Board of Directors. The outlook moving forward is positive and we will continue to do what we can to keep the rate as affordable as we can.

I would like to wish you a Safe and Prosperous New Year from Stanton County PPD!

Information about SCPPD

If power lines go down because of a winter storm, you may be in for a prolonged power outage as utility crews work to get the lights back on. Have an emergency kit prepared to help you and your family weather the storm and the outage safely and comfortably. Some of the items this kit should include are bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlights, a weather radio, and extra batteries.

Before a storm ever begins, tune into your local weather service for the weather forecast. It is important to know the differences among various watches and warnings.

•Winter Storm Watches signify that a winter storm event, including heavy snow, heavy sleet, or ice storm, are likely within the next few days. You should be alert, as this means adverse conditions could begin within the next 24 to 72 hours.

•Winter Storm Warnings call for a winter storm event to begin within the next 12 to 36 hours. Those in the range of the warning should be mindful of the impending conditions and consider canceling plans to travel outside of the home.

When power is lost, notify your utility of the outage. Unplug all sensitive electronics to avoid a surge when elec-tricity is restored. Leave one light switched on as a quick reminder that the power is restored.

Stay inside. Dress in warm, dry layers and wear a hat, which can help keep in heat. Be aware of the temperature in your home. Cover windows at night, close off unneeded rooms, and place draft blocks at the bottom of doors to minimize cold air entering the house.

During an outage, only venture outside if absolutely necessary. Be on the lookout for downed electrical equip-ment. Snow can obscure such an electrical hazard, so take caution when driving. Never drive over a downed line because that could pull down the pole and other equipment, causing additional hazards. If you see a downed line, do not get out of your car. The safest place is inside the vehicle. Contact the utility immediately.

When the Lights Go Off this Winter

When you have an emergency, SCPPD people are standing by!In the case of an outage:1- Check your fuses and/or breakers to be sure they are working properly.2 - If you have a dou-ble-throw switch, make sure it is in the correct position.3 - Notice your neighbors; do they have power?Checking these few things before you call SCPPD can help us determine the severity of the outage and therefore expedite the res-toration.Please be sure to give the name that is listed on the billing account and physical address of the outage when calling into the office.

Questions about your bill? Please call SCPPD, 402-439-2228, during office

hours, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., in regards to billing ques-tions. When calling the office concerning billing

problems, it will save time if you have your meter serial number or customer account number. All

account payments should be mailed to:
