From the Principal Assembly
There will be no assembly this Friday, 16th February as most of the students will not have returned from swim-ming in time. Instead we will have a short assembly at 9.00am this coming Monday morning. The following Fri-day 23rd, assembly will take place at the pool at approxi-mately 3.00pm. BYOD
Yes, it does seems to be a never ending stream of paper-work! But once in place, the end result will be worth it. For your child and you! Today we’re sending home the Acceptable Use Agreement. And this year, there are two! They both apply to students with BYOD and to students using school owned devices. One is aimed at students from Prep through to Grade 3 level and the second is designed for students in grades 4, 5 & 6. The intent is the same, but the wording is slightly different. Teachers will go through these documents in class and we expect families to go through them at home, so everyone is completely familiar with the expectations and responsibilities. Also attached is a document outlining consequences for breaches of the AUA. As part of BYOD, students will be able to access a wide range of DET’s eduSTAR services & Microsoft Office 365 Education services. These are cloud based and families need to be aware of the privacy information surrounding these. Hence the forms! For those families wanting to ask questions or are unclear about any aspects of the BYOD program, I will be available for an info session next Tuesday, 20th Feb, after school at 3.30pm in the 3-6 classroom. Hopefully, I can clear up any questions you may have!

ISSUE 3: FEBRUARY 15th 2018
Please make sure you read through ALL of the newsletter and any
attachments each week. This is where important information and details will be the vast majority of
the time and where permission forms will be attached.
Swimming
Thank you to all families for your payments or indication of a Pool Pass. Dealing with the admin around payments can be a nightmare and by having forms and payments in on time, makes this task much easier and more efficient. The program itself is running smoothly and we appreciate the effort from families in making sure students all have the necessary clothing, bathers etc on a daily basis. It’s quite a job! Tomorrow (Friday) students need to bring extra clothing (chlorine friendly) to swim in, as there will be a focus on safety. Early Collection
Following advice from the Department, families who wish their children to remain at the pool, can do so, but only when they themselves are in attendance. The school’s legal duty of care remains in place during school hours. This means that parents are not able to give permission for their children to be unsupervised by school staff or themselves, during school hours. Parents may follow the usual procedure for early collection from school (including school activities, such as the swimming program, excursions etc), by completing the Early Collection form. While the Shire’s policy for children to be allowed at the pool without direct parent supervision, is for children to be ten years and up, this only applies outside school hours. Hair
Please make sure that your child’s hair is tied up or back, away from the face and out of the eyes, if it is longer than collar length. This is important during swimming particularly, but also at all times at school. Uniform
A reminder that our school uniform policy re-quires that shorts be worn under skirts and dresses. Clean Up Australia Day
Our school is registered as part of this program and will be doing our bit for Clean Up Schools Day on Friday March 2nd. Making our school an inviting and pleasant place for your chil-dren to learn is our ongoing aim. We have a list of jobs we need volunteers for, so if you know you’ll be available at any time during that Friday, please put your name down on the list at the office. Please note that we will require you to com-plete a ‘registration form’ as part of the volunteer process, and alert you to any foreseeable dangers and/or is-sues. Volunteers who will be here over the school lunch time (1.30 -2.15pm) are invited to bring their own picnic lunch to eat with their children. Clean Up Day will continue after lunch

Word of the week: Sampai Jumpa = Bye Selamat Pagi = Good morning
Try at home: The 3-6 students had a brainstorm this week to see if they could decide on what would be the top 10 words that you might need if you travel to Indonesia. We came up with these 5: 1. Ya (yes) 2. Tidak (no) 3. Bantu (help!) 4. Saya (I or me) 5. Hospital (Rumah Sakit)
What other words do you think would be most important to know?

In the 3-6 room we have been learning about the features of Persuasive Texts. Here is my 1st Persuasive piece titled “Homework should be banned!” I super strongly agree that homework should be banned. I hate it. Here are my reasons why.
Firstly, homework is time-consuming. People who live on farms have to do farm work. Others have chores like:
Dishes Washing TV Other
Secondly, homework is pointless. Work is for school. All that work we do at home is pretty much school work. Home isn’t for work, it’s for relaxing. Thirdly, People don’t like homework, I surveyed 4 peo-ple, including myself, and half of them don’t do their given homework. Plus, you can’t be expelled for not doing homework. This is why I think homework should be illegal.

Please help us, help your children become strong, independent people. Teachers
support students through providing structures and routines so students know when
things have to be done. We support them, but we don’t do things for them. You can
help your children by allowing them to do things for and by themselves. Such as;
Carry their own bags
Find their own ‘lost’ items
Look after their own belongings
Make and learn from their own mistakes
They can do these things! And they will be the better for it and end up helping you!
You might have their best interests at heart but doing
everything for your kids and protecting them from
mistakes is actually not in their best interest – or yours –
says parenting expert Michael Grose.

Students can come dressed in their house colours. Time TBA.
Parent helpers are needed on the day to give out ribbons, write down winners, etc.
Please write your name on the sheet at the office if you can help.
Friday 23rd February
Our newsletter is published each Thursday and will generally have any permission forms and information sheets attached. Families can also re-quest to have this sent via email.
