KING Goodwill Zwelithini attackedKwaZulu-Natal Tourism and business"jackals" for neglecting the Zulu king-dom while “using its name to make aprofit”.
Zwelithini was speaking at the pro-vincial King Shaka and Heritage Daycelebration on Wednesday at theStanger Country Club Grounds.
“I have to say this: it is not a secret,a large majority of the people who donotwishuswell,exploitandprofitfromour culture,” he said.
He cited the phrase "Welcome tothe Zulu Kingdom" widely used by thetourism sector saying it did not benefitZulus.
“Tourism organisations are alwaysurging people to come to the ReedDance and to come to the Zulu King-dom. But, if you were to ask yourselfif they ever met with me or had cometo our ceremonies, you will beshocked.”
Zwelithini believes that ludicrousamounts of money were spent on fail-ed events while he “had to go on hisknees” to get funding for traditionalceremonies that would benefit the Zu-lus.
During this year's Reed Dance, hesaid, maidens were forced to sleep intents.
Zwelithini said that Heritage Day,which was known as Shaka's Dayuntil 1995, is also referred toas Braai Day and this is an insult to KingShaka.
"Braai Day reduced the significanceof Heritage Day,” said Zwelithini.
"Even though the name has beenchanged, this day will always remainShaka's Day, which is very important to[Zulus] as compared to Braai Day," headded.
He said the commemoration ofShaka’s death is an emotional for allZulus.
KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu, whowas also at the event, in his addresssaid by combining the two events theyhave created the opportunity for the
“people of this province to celebrateour diverse cultures as proud childrenof a united South Africa”.
"Mostimportantly,wearecelebrat-ing the contribution of the people ofKwaZulu-Natal from all races towardssocio-economic development.
“By all accounts, this province hasachieved racial harmony and prosperi-ty through collective efforts by all itsresidents.”
“The introduction of the English,Portuguese, Dutch, French and otherEuropean cultures as the colonialistslanded in Natal, signaled the beginningof the formation of the Rainbow Na-tion as we know it today.
“In addition, the introduction of thewestern influence brought in Christian-ity, while the arrival of Indian inden-tured labourers introduced the Hindu,Islamic and other faiths from the east,"said the Premier.
Mchunu said that similarly, theJewish and many other communitieshave enriched the spectrum of faithsand religions in this province.
"Some of these faiths, the Westernfaiths in particular and their teachings,have influenced our indigenous, tradi-tional religions and belief systems, giv-ing rise to a plethora of new religiousgroupings which now fall under the all-encompassing title of "African Chris-tian religions,” he said.
“Indeed, we have been a shining ex-ample to the world. In the new demo-cratic order we ushered in 1994, reject-ing the notion of groups with specificallocations of special and exclusiverights and resources.
“We have created an egalitarian so-ciety where values identified in thecountry's constitution are enjoyed byall,” he said.
Mchunu told Zwelithini that hissupport is much-needed in developingthe province. He said: "Your Majesty, aswe seek to move into the future as ‘onepeople, one nation’, you remain oursource of inspiration. We believe thatwith your support, this province willcontinue to edge towards a brighterand prosperous future."
Glenhills gas cylinderexplosion damages homes

TWO Glenhills homes were ex-tensivelydamagedafteragascyl-inder exploded on Wednesdayafternoon.
The LPG cylinder was tornapart and landed several metresaway. The force of the blastcausedthewallsof thebuildingtomove approximately two centi-metres.
A resident of one of the dam-aged houses, D. Naidoo, said:"There was such a loud explo-sion. All the doors flew open - itblew the front door in and dam-aged the roof.
“It is shocking thatnoonewasinjured.”
Tarzan Naicker from theKwaDukuza disaster manage-ment team said: “I am sure thereare many other people who arecurrently storing gas cylinders intheir homes.
“This incident has illustratedtheamountofdamagethatcanbecaused, not tomention the risk tolife, when something goeswrong,” he said.
“Gas cylinders should bestored outdoors, ideally in acaged area, away from anythingthat could start or spread fire,”added Naicker.

BELOW average rainfall in thepast 15 months has resultedin water restrictions being
implemented on the North Coast.Dam levels have fallen sharply,
causing water shortages to alreadyoccur in some areas in iLembe.
Service provider Siza Water an-nounced last week that all their ser-vice areas - fromZimbali through toTinley Manor, Shakaskraal, EteteandNkobongo-wouldbeunderwa-ter restrictions.
This after restrictions were putin place in February for a period.
Readings show the Hazelmere
catchment, thesourceof water sup-ply, is under pressure.
On 11 September 2013 the sup-plywas at 98%, but dropped to 56%by 10 September 2014.
“ The use of hosepipes, washingof driveways, roofs and vehicles aswell as the use of irrigation systemsis banned, until furthernotice,” saida Siza Water notice.
Consumers who do not complywill be liable for a fine of R3000.
Restrictions will remain in placeuntil the public is otherwise in-formed.
Thesituationhasbeenexacerbat-edbyunusuallyhighspring temper-atures.Ifthiscontinues,moreexces-sively hot days will occur in ap-
proaching summer months.This is according to ShamiHari-
chunder, the corporate stakeholdermanager at Umgeni Water, the ser-vice provider for most areas in theiLembe District.
According to Harichunder, hightemperatures cause increasedevaporation.
“This possible scenario will beexacerbated if the El Nino effect oc-curs, as is expected, by resulting inbelow average rainfall. El Nino is aweather phenomenon that occursirregularly, usually once in everythree to seven years.
“It leaves in its trail low rainfallin some parts of the world, droughtin some countries and floods in
many other parts of the globe.”Harichunder said operational
meteorologists in South Africa havepredicted that the trend of low rain-fall experienced thus far is likely tocontinue until January 2015 -through the spring and early sum-mermonths when the highest rain-fall usually occurs - inKwaZulu-Na-tal, in general, and in the UmgeniWater catchment areas, in particu-lar.
“Thiswillhave theeffectof inade-quate rawwater being available forUmgeniWater to treat and supply toits customers -oneofwhich is iLem-be - for reticulation to domestic,business and industrial users.”

“TheNorth Coast System (Hazel-mere), which supplies parts of Dur-banand the iLembeDistrict, also fa-ces the possibility of drought.
“The Umvutshane River, whichsupplies Maphumulo, is almostcompletely dry.
“This has resulted in 66% reduc-tioninthevolumeofwaterthat isbe-ing treated.”
An earnest appeal is beingmadetoconsumerstousewatersparingly.It is believed that if water conserva-tion measures are implementednow, there may be sufficient wateravailable to meet future needs.

THE community of Mandeni wereshocked after the gruesome mur-der of Madoda Mgenge (54) and
Nombuso Xulu (47).Theywereattacked in theearlyhours
of Friday morning while they wereasleep at their home in Hlomendlini.
Thecouplewasshotandkilledbeforetheir bodies were set alight.
Their children were not harmed be-cause theyhid in the toilet and they lateralerted the neighbours.
Mandeni Mayor Spursihle Zulu con-demned the gruesome murder andcalledonthecommunitytoworkwiththepolicetoensurethattheperpetratorsarearrested.
“Weare disappointed at this unfortu-nateincident.Wecondemnitand wewillfollow it until there is anarrest,” said themayor.
HecalledontheHlomendlinicommu-nitytogivepoliceanopportunityto workon this matter so that those responsiblefor this act can be brought to book.
Zuluextendedhisheartfelt condolen-ces to the bereaved family.

FOOD for Life Kwa Dukuza currently distrib-utes over 2 000 plates of free meals per weekto orphanages, schools, old age homes andpoverty-stricken areas.
Their aim is to distribute 15 000 plates offood, but this cannot be achieved withoutsponsorships.
The cost of these meals is R75 000 and theorganisation is appealing to the community todonate towards this cause.
Themeals will be prepared at the Food forLife kitchen at Yellowood Road, Kwa Dukuzain the early hours of themorning on Saturday,11 October.
Theyarealso callingonvolunteers to assistwith the preparation and delivering of thesemeals around KwaDukuza.

Where logic and reason fail

I AM a self-proclaimed advocate of sci-ence, but as I have learnt over the years,mine is a stupid venture. Science is a
body of knowledge that is applied by peo-ple we call scientists to understand thephysical world using experimentation andreasoning to come to conclusions.
It is also very important that advocatesofscience,suchas myself, driveintheirown
lanes and realise that science cannot solve,know, or understand everything.
This is a very humbling fact, one thatneeds to be accepted as is, on account ofthe existence of opinions and the growingtendency to let logic and reason take abackseat in a world ruled by counter-knowledge.
Now, I have been told, and have subse-quently read many a literature on the inter-net, telling me that there are some thingsthat science cannot know and can neverexplain.
That statement can seem very flat-worldly, but such an analysis would be un-fair to the advocate of the supernatural.
How can we differentiate between es-tablished facts and counter-knowledge?
Well, the western world has come upwith a few useful tools for the physicalworld: experimentation and Ockham’s ra-zor sums up most of these tools.
When researchers are faced with a nat-ural phenomenon that is not yet under-
stood, they use experimentation to deter-mine the mechanism driving the phenom-enon.
Where experimentation fails or not ispossible (such as a historical event), it isuseful to ‘cut the crap’.
This is where Ockham’s razor comes in;it looks at the many explanations present-ed and cutting the bull@#t, settles for thesimplest one.
In other words, where there is a perfect-ly natural explanation for a phenomenon,the supernatural is frowned upon –that isuntil testable and reliable evidence sup-ports it.
It is important that the most estab-lished theories of nature encounter themost rigorous and revealing episodes ofscientists trying to prove it wrong.
The most accepted are only so becausethey withstand the plethora of attemptsto disprove them.
Such is for the physical world, though,whilst the supernatural has a different set
of rules outside the realms of science.And out there, pretty much anything
goes.This reminds me of the old slogan of
The Church of Scientology: “if it’s a fact foryou, it’s a fact.”
Let us consider a man of God whoclaims that the Holy Spirit resides withinhim.
This is a fact that cannot be tested, andtherefore resides outside science.
If, however, the ambitious man of Godclaims that he can use the Holy Spirit toheal the injured, cure AIDS and cancerthrough prayer, he then brings aspects ofthesupernaturalworldtoourphysical real-ity, and at this point allows scientific test-ing of these claims.
No occurrence of faith healing workinghas been recorded or peer-reviewed.
A more physically viable explanationwould be that he who claims to be healedby a faith healer through nothing morethan prayer, is telling an untruth.
Whilst this may break the credibility ofthe witness, it keeps intact the laws ofphysics by cutting the crap, in other words,we use Ockham’s razor.
Whilst this fact means faith healingdoes not work in the physical world, it saysnothing of the supernatural, which as I saidearlier, anything goes.
Thisplacewhereanythinggoesiscalledby Collin Campbell the cultic milieu; whichis the cesspool of all that is unbelievableand where those that forego reason, logicand choose to ignore all manner of estab-lished evidence, reside.
I have been told also, that miracles can-not be explained by science because theyoperate outside the laws of physics.
This is a face-palm-worthy statementat face value, but then I remember how sci-ence cannot explain “everything.”
When it comes to so-called miraclesand the hocus pocus that plagues the cul-tic milieu, the phenomena of this super-natural world are only as strong as thosewho believe in it, the advocates.
And this is where science (which encap-sulates logic and reason), differs: it workswhether you believe in it or not.
So, what do you believe in?
PEOPLE often ask others what they woulddo with their last day on earth.
The answer is typically something thor-oughly un-thought-out, like spending thetime in Paris.
If the pre-warned were to stop and con-sider their answer more carefully, theywould realise the unpleasantness of spend-ing 19 of their last 24 hours in airports, andsquashed next to that obligatory obese manwith halitosis who seems to be on every air-craft I have ever boarded.
Last weekend, I was faced with a differ-ent question, albeit one just as difficult.
Being at the tail end of my first monthof being paid on the last day of the month,rather than the 25th, my purse strings areshorter than ever, and frayed to the point ofdecay.
So, armed with my R4.33, I debated howto spend my weekend and what to do withthese last few hard-earned cents.
I put in a call to my bank manager to seekhis advice, but he merely laughed and re-minded me of the prudence of frugal living.
I told him it was a little late for that, and
we parted ways on our usual frosty terms.My next move was to use some of my last
remainingdatatotaketoWhatsappandFa-cebook and find out what my posse wereplanning for the weekend.
It pays to have friends wealthier and bet-ter connected than oneself, and this bout ofmessaging scored me a free ticket to Fridaynight’s local rendition of “Whose Line is itAnyway”, which has been aptly renamed“What Kind”, for its Durban audience.
As a thank you to my friends over at theCatalina, I must pause here to tell youthat the place is awesome.

This slot, by the way, is open on othernights to any production accepted by theCatalina team, so I implore all directors andplaywrights to help make Durban a morehappening place.
My plans to spend the rest of the week-end on the beach, using my R4.33 to tip carguards, were well and truly scuppered by therain, which, while much-needed, would

DESPITE the gloomy weather on Satur-day morning, more than 600 volun-teers donned their slickers, rain pon-
chos and trash bags to clean the stretch be-tween Tugela North Bank and the UmvotiRiver Mouth beaches and waterways.
The team picked up marine litter at sev-eral designated clean up sites.
The Coastal Clean up is part of the Inter-national Coastal Clean up - the world's larg-est volunteer effort to clean up the marineenvironment. Almost two tons of trash, in-cluding cans, bottles and plastic werepicked up on the North Coast sites.
The clean up is organised by the KZNEzemvelo which was sponsored by DCLM.
The International Coastal Clean up saw
hundreds of thousands of people across theworld spend three hours combing thebeaches and waterways to pick up trashthat pollutes the waters, harms marine life,hampers tourism and poses health risks tobeach-goers.
Atlastyear'sInternationalCoastalCleanup, more than 500 000 volunteers world-wide removed more than 10 million poundsof debris from the ocean, rivers, lakes andwaterways.
"The purpose of the Blythedale CoastalClean up is to educate people on the impor-tance of keeping our communities and wa-terways clean to help protect wildlife fromlitter that can choke animals or damagehabitats," said a spokesperson for DCLM.
The mission of the International CoastalClean up is to remove debris from shorelines,
bayous, bays, rivers, waterways and beach-es, collect valuable information on theamount and types of debris collected, edu-cate people on the issue of marine debrisand use the data collected to effect positivechange.
Volunteers clean beaches and collect in-formation using the International CoastalCleanupdatacard,sothatsourcesofmarinedebris can be targeted for education or pol-lution prevention campaigns.
Co-ordinators enter that information in-to Ocean Conservancy's online databaseand that information is tabulated and a re-port of the results is distributed worldwide.Over the years, data from the clean ups hasbeen used to enact local, state, national,and even international legislation andagreements.

WELL-KNOWN KwaDukuza residentand former teacher RishiMaraj diedlast week at the age of 85.
Marajwasa stalwart in the teaching frater-nityandknownforhis dedicationandcommit-ment.
He obtained his teacher’s diploma in Salis-buryIsland in1949andspecialisedinEnglish,mathematics, science and art.
He attended the Stanger SabhaHall Schoolwhich was an annex to Stanger Indian HighSchool.His firstappointmentwasatEntumeniPrimary School in 1950 and there after Para-kubad Primary, Stanger Madressa, AshramPrimary, StangerPrimaryandDawnviewPri-mary School where he was the deputy princi-pal before he retired in 1990.
Maraj had a passion for the environmentandgainedmuchofhis inspirationandphilos-ophy from his interaction with nature.Heleftanindelible impressiononeverybody
he was associated with, especially his fellowteachers and pupils.
He leaves behind his belovedwife, Ramba-wathee, sons , Rajesh ,Ravin,Rakesh,daugh-ters Reena and Rantha, brother Bonny Marajand host of family and friends. His legacy ofloveandcompassionwill endure in theheartsof everyone he associated with.

FORMERStangeriteandteacherDayaMudalydied on Tuesday last week at his home inDur-ban.
AfterteachingatStangerSouthandStangerSecondary Schools for several years, Mudalywas promoted in 1984 to HOD at Redfern Pri-mary School in Phoenix. He relocated to thePaul Sykes Primary School in 1997.
At the time of his death, Mudlay was themanagerof theClare EstateCrematorium.Hewas the younger brother of SomMudaly, alsoa former teacher from Stanger.
Mudaly leaves behind his wife, Kogie,daughter Shivani, son Dhesiga andAmbalin.

ANORTHCOAST eco estate environmentalmanager,Peter Coulon, is hard atwork re-establishing grass-lands in the area.
Grasslands are now considered under threat of disap-pearance in SouthAfrica. Thiswas highlighted at a talk byProfessorEugeneMollatSimbithirecently (reportedinBa-llito Fever 12 September edition).
Coulon, who has worked at Simbithi since earlier thisyear, hasbeen focussingon restoringnatural grasslandonthe estate.
MostofSimbithiwas formerlypartofasugarcanefarm.Sugar cane now takes up most of what was once coastalgrassland a few hundred years ago.
The only naturally occurring grasslands remaining ontheNorthCoastarearoundNonoti,TugelaandtheAmathi-kulu Nature Reserve, experts say. “Grasslands are hugelyundervalued by society, being not as attractive as forests.They do have their own beauty though. We aim to be abenchmarkhereforcoastalgrasslands,”Coulonexplained.
He is currently working on about 50 hectares of grass-land in Simbithi, and says it is a long-term project.

He said environmentalists are currentlydoing much research on the subject, as littleis known about some aspects of grasslandsand therole theyplay.Vital tocreatinghealthygrasslands are mowing and grazing by ani-mals.
“We are currently working on getting sup-port from the local fire department to allowustoburn,whichiscrucial tokeepinggrasslandshealthy. We are also mowing and taking outgrasses and plants that have establishedthemselves in excess,” said Coulon.
“In 2015 we are hoping to conduct sometrail burns in our grasslands if we get supportfrom the local fire department to allow us toburn, which is crucial to keeping grasslandshealthy.
“We are also mowing and removing someinvasive local grasses like panicum deustem,that have established themselves in excess,”said Coulon. Excess tick berry - which iscrowding grasslands - is also being removed.
One of his key areas of focus is establishingRedGrass (Themeda triandra),which is a finegrassforthegrazingofanimals.Theestatehasa number of buck which would benefit fromthis - including different duiker species, reed-buck and bushbuck.

and Mandeni mayor Spursihle Zulu un-veiled the plaque at the VIP launch of theMandeni Mall on Thursday, September 25.
Zulu commended the developers fortheir efforts in providing the communitywith their own shopping mall.

The centre wasflooded at thelaunch with shop-pers taking advantage of the opening spe-cials. Shoppers also stood a chance to winbranded Mandeni Mall merchandisethrough the in-centre spend and enjoyedentertainment by live performers and chil-
dren were kept entertained in a play area.Mayor Zulu said the Mandeni Mall has
brought a new level of design and eleganceto the area, with a modern layout that in-cludes an external food court with top-linefinishes to compliment a fantastic mix ofnational tenants.
The mix of successful retailers alreadyincludes Shoprite, Capitec, KFC, Mark-hams, OK Furniture, Lewis Stores, Studio88, Nizams and many more.
The mayor saidthat he was confi-dent that theproject will con-tribute to the over-all image of Man-deni and encour-age the upgradingof existing facilitiesin neighbouring ar-eas.
Dion Thomp-son, one of thepartners of the
mall, said the opening, not only offered thesurrounding community a variety of storesand transport facilities at their doorstep,but it also opened opportunities for em-ployment.
"The mall promises to contribute to theupliftment of the CBD while assisting thelocal municipality's objective of creatinginvestment growth opportunities in thegrowth corridor between Durban and Rich-ards Bay."
Thompson added that owing to therapidly growing areas around Mandeni,this development will satisfy the needs ofthe local consumer by offering a develop-ment of a first-world nature.
With its modern exterior design andprominent location, Mandeni Mall enjoysextensive visibility from passing vehiclesand pedestrians and is perfectly posi-tioned to become a convenient shoppingdestination for the surrounding commu-nity.
For shoppers , it will become a place tobe themselves and have a good time, whilepicking up all their shopping essentials.
The project was first envisioned in2006 by Thompson and has now becomea reality.
Approximately 450 workers receivedemployment during the construction ofthe project with an additional 450 perma-nent positions created, after the openingof the mall, through tenant employmentopportunities.

FORacardesigner, thechancetoreimagine an icon like FordMustangisalwaysexciting.Do-
ing this for the famousFordperform-ance car’s 50th anniversary, is theopportunity of a life-time.
As Ford’s per-formance lead-er, the basic pa-rameters ofMustang wereobvious: rear-wheel drivecombinedwiththe sound andperformance ofaV8engine to cre-ate the visceral experience thatMustang drivers expect.
Part of the appeal ofMustang overthe years has been the way it com-bines style, performance and every-day usability thanks to its four-seatcabin and sizable trunk.
These attributes had to be part ofthe new design. With these basic pa-rameters,Forddesignersestablisheda footprint to work with roughly thesame as the fifth generation model.
From a design standpoint, thechallengewashowtodesignacarthatwascontemporary,butunmistakably
Mus-tang.
Thegoal was tocreateaMustangwithabold, aggres-sive face, with chiselled detailing onthebodyandamoreathleticstanceonits tires.
Several hundred sketches weresubmitted in early 2010 incorporat-ing many of the primary MustangDNA cues to varying degrees. Thelong bonnet, short deck, bold grille,
shark-front nose, fastback profile andrear tri-bar tail lamps were reinter-preted in dozens of different ways.
Similarly, sketches of the interiorfeatured the distinctive symmetricalinstrument panelwith adouble browdesign and large analogue gauges.
Throughout2011,hundredsof in-itial sketcheswerenarroweddownto
a handful of proposals that would betransformed into an initial batch ofclaymodels forevaluation in threedi-mensions. After further develop-ment,threethemeswentintothefinalselection phase in early 2012.
By the summer of 2012 -as with all previousgenerations - themain Dearborn,Mi-chigan, studio tookthe lead on devel-oping the Mus-tang into a pro-duction car.
Designers, claysculptorsanddig-ital modellersspent countlesshours refining thelines and surfaces
tha t create the threedimen-sional body side and the powerfulhunches as well as the long-sculptedhoodwithaforwardleaningnosethatgivethe2015Mustangitsuniquelookand personality.
Details such as the shape and sizeof the grille and headlamps were re-finedand the rear trackwaswidenedby 70millimetres, giving the new caran even more aggressive stance.
The elimination of the front and
rear bumper shelves and the use ofunified side glass with the B-pillarhidden behind the rear quarter win-dowscontributetothenewMustang’smore contemporary shape.
Onthe interior, theteampaidcloseattention to the relationships of thevariouselements,anddesignedthemin a way to achieve optimum fit andfinish.
The final theme was inspired bythewingof anairplane,with thedou-blebrowcarvedoutofthewing.Allthegauges,registers,toggleswitchesandotherdesignelementsareplaced intothewing.Everythingiswhereitneedstobe for usability, just like the cockpitof an airplane. The toggle switchesare a highlight of the modern centrestack.
The designers have also taken ad-vantage ofmodern lighting technolo-gy at both ends of the car. IndirectLEDs illuminate the blade style tri-bar tail lamps with a uniform glow.LEDs are also used for the three gillsmounted inboardof thehigh-intensi-tydischargeheadlamps,recallingthegills moulded into the headlampbucketsoftheoriginal1965Mustang.
Along the way, the shape of thenew Mustang underwent twice asmuch aerodynamic testing as anyprevious generation.
The final production design of theall-new sixth-generation Ford Mus-tang was revealed to the world on 5December 2013 and it will go on salein the US later this year.
This is also the first generation ofthe Mustang that will be sold acrossthe world, including South Africa,Australia, and the UK.
Theall-newMustang,withV8andEcoBoost® engines will go on sale inSouth Africa late 2015.

TEACHERS Style were blown out in thepreliminaryroundof theMoonandSonsAgencies-sponsored Knockout Cup
(hostedbyKwaDukuzaVolleyball Association)at the association courts on Thursday night.
Six teams contested the Social League K.O.Cup with matches played in two pools on aleague basis.
The top two teams in each pool were auto-maticallyguaranteedaplaceinthesemi-finals.
Style slumped to a 15-9 defeat against logleaders Sunbrook in the opening set.
They came back strongly in the second setto take a commanding 7-3 lead, but too manyunforcederrorsresultedintheir13-15demise.
With Sunbrook easily accounting for CoolLeaders in straight sets (2-0) there was im-mense pressure on Nazir Khan’s Style outfit,who needed to win their match against CoolLeaders in the hope of securing a place in thesemi-finals.
Style’s woes continued after going down8-15 to Cool Leaders in the first set.
They fought back to level the scores at 1-1afterwinning the second set narrowly (16-14).Stylewere sent crashingout of the tournamentafter suffering a 13-15 defeat at the hands ofrookies, Cool Leaders.
Meanwhile, Darnall United clawed theirway from a set down to beat Virgo 2-1 beforebeating MOB (2-1) to secure pole position inpool B.
Virgo beat MOB in straight sets (2-0) toemerge runners-up in pool B.
Tomorrow (Thursday) Sunbrook will lockhornswith Virgo in the first semi-final clash at7pm with Cool Leaders entertaining DarnallUnited in the second semi-final at 8pm.
The playoffs for third spot and the final willtake place on Thursday, October 9.

Dawnheights won the toss andelected to bat. They posted 171/3 intheir allotted 20-overs. Cricket pun-dits expected them toget closer to the200-mark after being 113/2 in the12th over (with 8 overs remainingand 8 wickets intact).
Debutante Sagar Arora of Indiaproved his mettle with the bat topscoringwith a superb71 runs,which
included thirteen 4’s and a 6. He re-ceived support from Taqeer Malik(35) and Suhail Singh (38).
SaieshanLogenathan(1/22from3overs)wasthemosteconomicalMan-orbowler.Chasing172-runsforvicto-ry (at a rate of 8,6 runs per over) andwithlightdeterioratingtheoddswerestackedagainstManor.But, the expe-rienced Alveiro Nadasen showedscant respect for theDawnheightsat-tack, smashing a brilliant half-centu-ry (58) from 25 balls to set the plat-form for the Manor lads.
Manor lost three wickets, JacobStevens (11),MohamedMhlongo(11)and Dillon Rautenbach (7). After adreamstart of 83/1,Manor slipped to
110/4 in the 12th over.Desigan Pillay and Junaid Amra
steadied the Manor innings, takingthe tally148/5 in the17thoverbeforeAmra (11) was run out. Zakarriya“SloMo” Cassimjee was sent for anearly shower after scoring a solitary.
Despite wickets falling aroundhim, man-of-the-match Pillay heldhis nerve carving out an unbeaten 33runs to take the tally to163/6with sixballsremaining.Needingninerunstowinfromsixballs, thematchwaspre-cariously poised on a knife-edge.

Singh re-elected Manor president>> President praises young players and parents for their dedication

NARENDRA Rangi Singh was elected unopposedaspresidentofManorCricket Clubattheirannu-algeneralmeetingheldatTheQuartzconference
centre in Stanger Manor onFriday night.
Manor will be celebratingtheir 15th anniversary thisyear and have planned a hostof activities including anawards banquet (to honourplayers and officials who haveexcelled throughout the 15-year history of the club) and atour toGeorge inCapeTownatthe end of the year.
In his presidential address, Singh said: “We had afairly good season and it’s encouraging that youngsters
are eager to play the game.”Heemphasised thathardwork, training,dedication
anddisciplineare thekey ingredients tobeasuccessfulcricketer.
Singh was indebted to the parents, guardians andwell-wishers in managing theclub on training and matchdays, but appealed to moreparents to get involved in theclub’s activities and be visiblyseen at the grounds on matchdays to motivate their chil-dren.
“As we celebrate our 15-yearmilestoneweareproudtoplace on record our apprecia-tion to all the past players and
officials who laid the foundation of a highly successfulclub and it is indeed encouraging to note that we have
