Stage Challenge 2013

At the end of 2012 Ms Christian the Head of Drama at Melville High School asked Mrs Bleaken if we wanted to join Melville High school in Stage Challenge. She said YES !After 100 hours of rehearsal, costuming and props making we joined 13 other schools on June 25th. It was a long day. We started at 7am and finished at 11.30 pm! Here is our story.

The concept of a Chinese dragon was used to make the Taniwha which had glowing eyes. The sets were of Maori and Pasifica designsPalm trees to create a jungle effect.Scenes backstage at Claudelands Event centre.

The story behind the performanceCian Gardiner and Nick Martin year 13 students at Melville High school came up with the idea of exploring the impact of humans on the earth. They intertwined this concept with the Maori legend of Rangi and Papa. The opening scene starts with a heart beat, the first breath of life as Rangi and Papa cling to each other. Soon all the forces seek to separate them until they can no longer defend themselves or each other from the ferocious impact of humans and war.A chilling reinforcement of their title Reap what you Sow.
