In our Bounce Back lessons, students are exploring the following focus areas: Week 9 Bounce Back Focus Areas – ES1 – Looking on the bright side (I understand that it is always important to be positive) S1 – Expressing gratitude and appreciation (to understand the importance of acknowledging the good things in our life and thanking others) S2 – Bright side versus downside thinking (to understand that good things can happen when we think positively) S3 – Bright side versus gloomy thinking (to understand that I can change my thinking from pessimistic to optimistic).
Student Safety
The safety of our students is a priority. School opening and closing hours are busy times for pedestrians and
vehicles outside the school. Please ensure that you park safely and legally at all times even if it means walking
further to the school gate. Please observe all parking signs. Please also refrain from parking across local
residents’ driveways.
Parking in our staff carpark for picking up and dropping off students is prohibited and the carparks are not to
be used as a thoroughfare for pedestrians.
Teacher supervision commences under the COLA from 8.30am. Students who arrive before 8.30am are asked
to wait on the ramp near 5/6C’s classroom until the playground duty teacher arrives for supervision at
8.30am. Students arriving after 8.30am are asked to put their bag at their classroom and then go immediately
to the COLA. Students should not be near the K-2 and 3-6 classrooms unless they are dropping off their bag.
Thank you.

to make short films that encapsulate the theme – why we love our area. Registration for the contest is free.
Students can enter films in the contest as individuals, or in groups. Prizes include Go Pro Cameras and free
enrolment in film production courses at Shopfront Theatre, Carlton. Attached to this newsletter is a copy of
the flyer explaining the rules of the contest and other information. Submissions must be received by
Wednesday, 18th October 2017. The films will be screened at Beverly Hills Cinema on the evening of

Student Absence Notes
Many student absences are not being validated by a signed, written note from a parent or carer. It is a
requirement that a note explaining a child’s absence is provided as soon as a child returns to school. We
appreciate your cooperation on this matter.

SRC NEWS
The SRC representatives came together on Thursday 24th August, to discuss the design for our buddy bench
and location. After much discussion about colours and design a decision was made to paint the buddy bench
yellow and green with a leaf design. It will sit in the shade of a tree in the playground and will be used for
Lugarno Public School friends to sit together and chat.
On Thursday 31st August, the year 5 and year 6 SRC representatives and three of GRC’S school
representatives came together for a second playground painted spaces planning session. During this session,
the students decided upon design, colour, cost and the area within the COLA to be painted. The painting of
the spaces will occur in term 4.
Next Thursday 21st September, Lugarno Public School will be holding a ‘Crazy Hair’ fundraising day to continue
to raise funds for our playground’s painted spaces. Children may come to school with a crazy hair design and
may use coloured hair spray for this occasion. Students are still to dress in full school uniform (sports
uniform). A gold coin donation is greatly appreciated.

Last Wednesday, Stage 3 headed off to Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Park for
their 2017 camp!!
Everyone arrived at school by 8:10 and boarded the bus by half past. There was a
year five bus and a year six bus. The trip took about one to two hours before we
reached our destination.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a man, Abe who explained to us how camp
would work and what we would do. It all sounded so exciting and we couldn’t wait
to get into all the fun! He let us go set up our cabins for half an hour so we could
settle in, then told us to meet him back down in the Bunker, an area where we
would assemble before each activity and each meal.
When we returned to the Bunker, we were told our groups, (purple and green); then
headed off to our first meal at Narrabeen, lunch. We sat in cabin groups.
The activities that each of the groups participated in were: kayaking/canoeing,
archery, high ropes, low ropes, rock climbing and initiatives (outdoor problem solving
activities). Each group did them on different days and at different times, but still did
the exact same things.
During high ropes and rock climbing, we learnt how to put on harnesses and
connect ourselves to the ropes. Throughout initiatives and low ropes we learnt how
to work as a team and help each other out, because we were in teams solving
problems; and in low ropes, we had to support the person who was doing the course
by having our arms up in front of us in case they fell.
As well as day activities, we had night shows, where we went out to the gymnasium
at night and played games with and/or against other schools. On the first night, we
did tabloids, like a mini olympics. On the second night, we played indoor running
around games. Some examples are Pac man, partner hide ’n’ seek, scissors paper
rock in a conga line and dodgeball.
Overall, camp was a fantastic experience that none of the students will ever forget.
A big thank you to Mrs Harris, Mr Evans, Mrs Dufty, Miss Faraos, Miss Solo, and Mrs
Target for taking the time away from their families to take us to camp! We really
enjoyed it!!
