Dear Families of St Brigid’s,

This weekend is the 6th Sunday after Easter and the Gospel Reading tells of

how Jesus told his disciples that after his death, God would send the Spirit of

Truth to be with them forever. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Advocate, the one

who defends us from sin. The Holy Spirit also guides us into all Truth, helping

us to grasp the meaning of Jesus’ words, actions and miracles. As we live out

our faith, it is the Spirit that animates us as disciples, empowering us to use

our unique gifts to make a difference in our world. Jesus promises his

followers that the Holy Spirit will abide in us.

Place yourself in the hands of the Most Holy Trinity and call upon the Holy Spirit

to protect you from all sin and evil and to bring you peace.

As we begin to move out of the restrictions relating to COVID-19 in a safe, cautious and

appropriate manner may we continue to pray for…

· patience to continue to live in a way that is thoughtful of the health needs of others, · wisdom to make decisions that continue to be mindful of the wellbeing of our community, · kindness to show others that they are considered and valued, · and hope that our community can be a place of love, consideration and health for all.

There is an air of excitement around this week as we see many of our students ‘in the flesh’ for the first time in a number of weeks. The excitement seems to be going both ways, with many students pleased to be back at school (and I am sure a number of parents are also overjoyed at the prospect).

As we all begin to settle into school routine again, there will be teething problems. There will be anxiety about leaving home, anxiety about becoming sick, confusion about changes to routine, worry about how the students will manage, fears arising as we find gaps or misconceptions in learning and even concern about leaving parents. All natural! But playing on those worries will not help anyone, least of all our students. So pack them back to school telling them how proud you are of them, downplaying your concerns and allowing them to deal with what is ahead. Don’t forewarn them of ‘problems’ or voice your own anxiety. Our wonderful staff will be here to support and guide them, and ready to allow them to grow as individuals.

Drop and run - don’t linger. Encourage. Celebrate. Breathe. At the end of the day find positives with them…. Who did you see today? What was the most fun today? What are you proud of doing today? We know there is anxiety but anxious children don’t make good learners and we need to get back on track with our learning routines pretty quickly.

We look forward to welcoming back our older students tomorrow and Friday. The roster for this week and next week is as follows with Weeks 5 and 6 to be advised.

WEEK 4 HOME LEARNING PACKS: These will be available from the front deck of our school from 9am on Monday the 18th of May. For students at school on Monday, they will be able to bring home their Learning Packs themselves. MOTHER’S DAY STALL: Thanks so much to Mrs Barsby for organising this special initiative so that our students had the opportunity to acknowledge the special lady in their life. There certainly was a great array of goodies on offer and I know that there was a lot of surprised faces when unwrapping gifts on Sunday morning. SEMESTER 1 REPORTS: With the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic we have needed to restructure our Reporting and Assessing to factor into account the disrupted learning of our students. The Catholic Schools Office have issued an alternative reporting system as we cannot report on student achievement using the A-E grades. This plan is to report, through comments, for English, Mathematics and an overall General Comment. This modified report will be issued to all students in the last week of this term. More information will be forwarded closer to the time of issuing reports. It is then expected that we will revert back to A-E Grades for the tracking of student achievement in the second semester. NCCD INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Please see the information attached regarding the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) which supports students with additional learning needs. Our NCCD Team are responsible for co-ordinating the planning and collection of evidence relating to adjustments for students who require modified programs. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Mr Hunter or a member of our NCCD Team, Miss Bugden, Mrs Walters, Mrs Condon or Miss Macdonald. READY4LEARNING: With the transition back to school underway, we would also like to commence our Ready4Learning Program for 2020. We are looking at starting on from Friday 12th June. R4L will then run on each Friday for the remainder of Term 2 and then into Term 3. Children who will be enrolling into St Brigid’s for Kindergarten 2021 will then com-mence their Transition to School Program in Term 4. This program will fill very quickly and I encourage all who have children ready to start school in 2021 to contact the office to obtain your form. The program will have a liter-acy and numeracy focus with social skills, along with fine and gross motor activities. If you have a child starting school next year or know of someone who has a youngster ready for school in 2021 please let them know about this wonderful program. ENROLLING FOR KINDERGARTEN 2021: Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 will be commencing in the next couple of weeks so, if you have a child beginning school next year, or know of anyone who does, would you please advise them of this. Enrolment Packs will be available from Monday 25th of May. SCHOOL FEE SUPPORT: We take this opportunity to again bring to your attention, special support arrangements for families, implemented by the Diocese of Lismore due to the COVID-19 health crisis as advised previously. These are:

1. Waiving of outstanding 2020 school fees for those families in receipt of JobSeeker payments. In order for school fees to be waived, please forward a copy of your letter from Centrelink.

Please note: the JobKeeper payment does not make you eligible for this concession. CLARIFICATION: This relates to School Tuition Fees and School Building & Maintenance Levy.

2. Families experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 health crisis may apply to defer the payment of school fees until 1st September. Please make your application in writing to: tony.hunter@lism.catholic.edu.au. Of course, at any time when your circumstances may change and impact your financial situation, we ask you to please contact me to discuss the options available to you. PLEASE NOTE: If students arrive at school after the 9am bell they must be signed in at the office before going to their classroom. Students leaving before the home bell must be signed out at the office. This is a legal obligation for parents and/or carers.
