What makes a good design?
• What do you think makes a good design?
• It meets the projects purpose and the client’s requirements.To do this we must answer the
‘What,Who,Why,When,How’ questions;What is the project?Who is the project for?Why are we making the project?When does the project have to be finished by?How are we going to do the project?
• Market research is essential . Find out what has been done before and if it worked. What things do we need to change or improve?
• E.g. Market research of chairs:
• Innovation. Innovative design is important. If we always designed things in the same way they have been designed before, we would never have progressed.
Client’s brief:
You must design a chair that will hold twopeople. It must be made from bamboo andusing equipment that we have here at VigyanAshram.
Your client: Jenny
Homework:Your task is to think about the project brief and begin drawing some ideas for your chair.
You should do some market research on the different types of chairs that we have here at Vigyan Ashram (especially bamboo chairs!).
Draw some ideas on a page in your sketchbook , ready to show us tomorrow.
