1. Staff development is the process directed towards the personal and professional growth of nurses and other personnel which they are employed by health care agency.

agency or organization in attaining new skills and knowledge, gaining knowledge and growing professionally. Various resources outside the agency employing individuals may be used. The process may included such as orientation, in-service education and continuing education.

Need for staff development
• Social change and scientific advancement.• Advancements in the field of science including
medical science and technology.• To provide the opportunity for nurses to
acquire and implement the knowledge, skills, attitude, ideals and valued essential for the maintenance of high quality of nursing care.
Philosophy of staff development:• Believes in the achievement of high quality of
health care for the people.• Focuses on continuing development of its
employee.• Believes that education should be designed to
promote high standards and effective care.• Teaching learning should be dynamic
experience and shared between teacher and learner.
Functions - To provide educational activities for all nurses
employed by the health care agency directed towards change in behavior related to role expectations.

Induction training
Induction training is a type of training give as an initial preparation upon taking up a post.
Goal: To help new employees reach the level of performance expected from an experienced worker. It often contains information dealing with the layout of the firm's operating facility, health and safety measures and security systems.
Forms of induction

• Mentorship
Job Orientation The process of creating awareness with in the
individual of his/her roles, responsibilities and new relationships in new work situation.
In-service education
It is a planned educational experience provided to the job setting and closely identified service in order to help the person to perform more effectively as a person and as a worker.
Continuing education
• It is all learning activities that occurs after an individual has completed his basic education.
