SCRIPTURE CORNER THE CALL OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD The Twenty-third Psalm, today’s responsorial psalm, is arguably the best known of all the psalms. The line that reads “Even though I walk in the dark valley / I fear no evil; for you are at my side / with your rod and your staff / that give me courage” (Psalm 23:4) connects this week’s scriptures to the wonderful story of the road to Emmaus, which we heard last week. The Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is constantly at our side. He calls us each by name, beckoning us into a deeper relationship with him. That call, issued to each of us at the moment of our baptism, carries with it the promise of the Good Shepherd: “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). ——Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

BACCALAUREATE MASS Attention to the CLASS OF 2017!! You and your families are invited to the Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 14th at the 5:30pm Life Teen Mass. We invite you all to participate in the celebration. We would love for the seniors to wear their caps and gowns to this Mass. Some schools may not have their caps and gowns but please don’t let this keep you from being a part in this Mass. Sen-iors who are attending will meet in the South Foyer of the Church on May 14th by 5:15pm. After the Mass is over please join us in the Community Center for a reception.
YOUNG VINCENTIANS Young Vincentians of St. Thomas- Please check out our recently planted Community Garden located behind the SRE building (pictures are also available on our facebook page). Vegetables were graciously donated by Beatline Nursery and our children spent a Saturday morning pre-paring the garden and planting the vegetables. This is a wonderful project that could possibly help provide fresh vegetables to families in need in our community; howev-er, a successful garden will not be possible without garden maintenance throughout the summer (weeding, watering, picking vegetables). If any family would like to donate a week of your time during the summer to help maintain the garden, please contact Gretchen Loftus at 228-383-0902, [email protected] or Kristin Perry at 805-889-1331, [email protected].

PARISH PAYS SUBSIDY TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS In order to lower the tuition rate for families, the parish budgets each year an amount which is paid directly to the school’s operating budget. The amount varies each year based on the parish’s offering income. There are two rates of tuition at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School, St. Patrick High School and Our Lady Academy—the lowest rate is Catholic subsidized by the parish. To be eligible for this rate for Grades K-12, a fam-ily must be registered in the parish, attend Mass here at St. Thomas regularly, and contribute to the support of the par-ish by using their church support envelopes or the elec-tronic method of making regular church offerings. A form to request parish subsidy approval may be obtained from the school office and should be turned in to the parish of-fice for completion. It is so important for families to attend Mass with their children. Your financial support is greatly appreciat-ed and needed.
