Divine Mercy Sunday … Grace in the Year of Mercy

Sunday, April 3 2:30-3:30 PM in Church

Come and receive the Mercy offered to each of us … even the greatest sinner. Come in this year of an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy and receive the gift of extraordinary grace.

What makes this Year of Mercy special? Jubilee years occur once every 25 years … only 3 or perhaps 4 times in your life! In this a Year of Mercy, the commemoration of Divine Mercy takes on even more significance. In proclaiming the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis stated, “At times we are called to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may become a more effective sign of the Father’s action in our lives. For this reason I have proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy as a special time for the Church, a time when the witness of believers might grow stronger and more effective.” He goes on to say, “How much I desire that the year to come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!”

What better time to embrace Divine Mercy Sunday than in the Year of Mercy? All are welcome!

The Women’s Association will host a reception of cookies and lemonade

following the prayer service.

Seven Deadly Sins/ Seven Lively Virtues

Did you miss the Sunday Café Lenten series? Here’s

your chance to participate. Join noted Professor of

Theology, Fr. Robert Barron, in this revealing

presentation as he sheds light on the Seven Deadly

Sins - those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our

relationship with God and others - and the antidote

to them, the Seven Lively Virtues. Fr. Barron uses

Dante's DIVINE COMEDY to expose these sinful

patterns in our lives and show how they are

effectively counteracted by the cultivation of virtue through the development of the gifts of the Holy

Spirit. This fascinating journey shows the path that

God has designed to lead us to health, happiness

and holiness.

April Selection: The April selection is The Sunflower, On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness by Simon Wiesenthal. You are a prisoner in a concentration camp. A dying Nazi soldier asks for your forgiveness. What would you do? Faced with the choice between compassion and justice, silence and truth, Wiesenthal said nothing. But even years after the war ended, he wondered if he had done the right thing? What would you have done in his place?

The book will be discussed Thursday, April 21 at 10:00 AM.

The Monday morning Bible Study, which meets from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, will continue through April and May. The goal is to have each session be self-contained; thus, participants will be reading short books from the Bible that are often not studied. During April, the Book of Ruth and the Book of Jonah from the Old Testament and the I and II Thessalonians will be read/studied. During May, the focus will be on Galatians, Philippians, and Philemon (Paul’s short letters) and, if time permits, Malachi (the last book in the Old Testament). All are invited. Bring your Bible – come, learn, and share with Facilitator Susan Gravely.

Reflecting on the Year of Mercy … Processions define this week. We bless palms and we process into church after hearing the same chorus sung by angels over the manger: “Peace on earth and glory in the highest.” On Holy Thursday, we process to the Meal of the Lord and then, later, to the place of repose to ponder and give thanks. On Good Friday, we process to the Cross to behold, to genuflect, to embrace. In the holy night of Easter, we follow in procession the Light, our dead and risen Christ. We process to the font and wash clean new disciples who will take up with us the great mercy works: feeding, sheltering, clothing, visiting, burying, and giving, giving, giving. Like our ancestors of Exodus, we process to our promised home behaving as if we are there.

To whom will I go?

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! We wanted to thank the many, many parishioners who attended this year’s Fish Fry Events! We hope you enjoyed the Food and Fellowship each week! We also want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to the many, many volunteers who make the Fish Fry Events a success! Without your help, the Fish Fry would not be what it is!! Happy Easter to all and we look forward to seeing you again next year!! Joe, Michelle, Pat, Pam, Zach and Scott St. Susanna Parish Fish Fry Committee

And Thank You Again!

“Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, this you do for me.”

These words came from Jesus, and this day He is saying them to you. You baked almost 500 dozen cookies, donated $550.00, and took time out of your busy life to say prayers for inmates at Lebanon Correctional. I, along with Jesus, thank you from the bottom of my heart. God Bless,

Mike Weil Coordinator for KAIROS Cookie Projects
