Some people spend their entire lives trying to find that special someone who will know them, all the good, the bad, and the in-between, and love them just as they are. Some are fortunate enough to find a life partner who gives them this type of knowing and acceptance. Some never do and feel a void in their hearts that never seems filled. But for all people, there is someone who knows us better than we even know ourselves, someone who knows our innermost thoughts and who knows everything we have ever done, and loves us still. It can be overwhelming at times to think about the fact that God truly does know everything there is to know about us. For some, it can be a cause for concern, or even shame, for the things that we have done wrong in our life. It can cause us to try and run away from God, as if that were even possible, because the reality is that, wherever we go, God is already there. But we don t need to be worried or concerned because, as the Psalmist says, it is God who formed our inward parts. It is God who made us, and God does not hate anything that God has made. We are loved by the Creator of the Universe, because he created us too. And in that creation and knowing fully who we are, Gods great love for us upholds us and sustains us our whole life through. So yes, Jesus knows me, and loves me, for the Bible tells me so.

Luther Church Newsletter

Plainfield Township, Pennsylvania (610) 863-6859 August 2019

Pastor Chris

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me…For it was you who formed my

inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:1 NRSV)

On the door to the youth room, in a previous congregation, there is a sign that reads, “Jesus

knows me, this I love.” It’s a twist on the old children’s song Jesus Loves Me. There’s actually an

entire song that has been written with these words as the start of the song. Those who study such

things tell us that one of our deepest desires as human beings is to be known, fully known, and ac-

cepted and loved for who we are. Some people spend their entire lives trying to find that special

someone who will know them, all the good, the bad, and the in-between, and love them just as

they are. Some are fortunate enough to find a life partner who gives them this type of knowing and

acceptance. Some never do and feel a void in their hearts that never seems filled. But for all people,

there is someone who knows us better than we even know ourselves, someone who knows our

innermost thoughts and who knows everything we have ever done, and loves us still.

It can be overwhelming at times to think about the fact that God truly does know everything

there is to know about us. For some, it can be a cause for concern, or even shame, for the things

that we have done wrong in our life. It can cause us to try and run away from God, as if that were

even possible, because the reality is that, wherever we go, God is already there. But we don’t need

to be worried or concerned because, as the Psalmist says, it is God who formed our inward parts.

It is God who made us, and God does not hate anything that God has made. We are loved by the

Creator of the Universe, because he created us too. And in that creation and knowing fully who we

are, God’s great love for us upholds us and sustains us our whole life through. So yes, Jesus

knows me, and loves me, for the Bible tells me so.

You’re Always There for Me

When the world comes crashing in And chaos rules my mind,

I turn my heart to you, Lord, And pure, sweet peace I find.

You lift me out of trouble You comfort me in pain;

You nourish, heal and cleanse me, Like cool, refreshing rain.

In times of joy and bliss,

When things are going right, You lift me even higher, And fill me with delight.

You listen to my prayers; You hear my every plea; I’m safe because I know

You’re always there for me.
