WORLD
MISSION

Today is World
Mission Sunday! In
Scripture, we read
that St. Paul asked
the Gentile Churches
to take up a collec-
tion to support the
Church in Jerusalem.
Now we are asked to
reach out and support the young churches
throughout our world. Your prayers and gener-
ous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of
the Faith in the collection today will help mis-
sionaries offer the poor of these areas practical
help as they share the mercy of God. It will en-
sure the development of local dioceses, and
support the work of priests, religious and lay
leaders who serve those on the margins and in
most need. Go out to the whole world through
your gift in today’s collection!

9 Months with Christ in the Womb
Prayer cards have been distrib-
uted throughout the Archdio-
cese, by the Family and Respect
Life Office, inviting people to
pray daily for a deeper apprecia-
tion of the dignity of life.
Here is that Prayer:
Dear Jesus of the Womb,
Most fragile child of Mary’s pro-
tection, we look to you as the
youngest image of perfect innocence. We lift up our pray-
ers to you who will save each of our souls. Just as you en-
tered humanity through this most gentle and helpless
state, now help us to find your presence in the faces of all
the gentle and helpless persons of the earth. Bless us with
eyes that see you and ears that hear you: in the presence of
the poor and the outcast, the hungry and the homeless, the
condemned and the war-torn, the elderly and the unborn.
May we discover you every day as at Christmas and offer
you our gifts, every day as at Epiphany. This we ask of You
and the Father, with your Holy Spirit, and in union with
Mary your tender home. Amen.
Weekly Development of Jesus in the
Womb: Jesus now weighs three and a half
pounds, and he is also eleven inches long.
Jesus of the womb, Hear our prayers!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Our sincere thank you to all the parishioners of St. Julie’s,
St. Joe’s and St. Peter’s for your generous support of the
Family Promise Giving Tree of Love. 172 tags were origi-
nally placed on the two giving trees. All but 12 tags were
taken by the end of the two weeks. St. Peter’s Altar Rosary
stepped up and not only took the last remaining 12 tags, but
have also agreed to donate a substantial amount of money.
With the help of all three parishes Family Promise at St.
Julie’s is now a reality! We are 63 volunteers strong and
now have the needed items and funds to begin hosting
homeless families in Butler County! We are so proud to say
that we are a Catholic in Hamilton, Ohio where people do
care for their brothers and sisters in need!

"Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant." In the wake of James and John's vanity,
Jesus offers this directive. These two apostles had been thinking in terms of prominence, glory, and
worldly honor. They wanted their association with Jesus to lead to public recognition and respect as
they took their places at his right and left. But Jesus put them in their place.
As was typical of so many of his teachings, Jesus upset the status quo. He told his followers that, alt-
hough "great ones make their authority over them felt ... it shall not be so among you." Then, he put for-
ward this clear image of the servant leader: "Whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of
all."
As followers of Christ, this instruction applies to us as well. We are called to the humility of service that
seeks neither personal glory nor gain. We are called to use what authority we may have in the world for
the benefit of our brothers and sisters, not for the sake of stroking our own egos. It's easy to pat our-
selves on the back for the good works that we do--to think that we are superior Christians, that others
owe us a debt of gratitude, or that our names should be engraved on a public placard in some notewor-
thy hall. But Jesus calls us to a different standard--the one he himself exemplified through his life of ser-
vice.
At the same time, today's Gospel gives us cause to meditate upon our association with Jesus and what
we hope to get out of it. Why are we Christian? Are we only after the glory of heaven? Are we afraid to
publicly profess our faith when it might hurt our reputation? Or are we in this for the love of the Lord,
who came into this world "to serve and to give his life as a ransom" for us?
