GOOD NEWS REFLECTION: THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST?

Do you have an unending problem? Where's Jesus? In this Sunday's Gospel reading, Jesus speaks of his Second Coming. And here he hasn't even finished his first coming! How confusing it must have been to the disciples. They grew even more confused after Jesus died, was resurrected, and ascended to heaven but delayed coming back. They remembered him saying that "this generation" will not pass away until all these Second Coming events have taken place, yet time passed, the apostles began to die off, and Jesus still had not re-appeared in the clouds. The misery of living in this world continued. Think of your own unending problem. Don't you wish Jesus would hurry up with his Second Coming and destroy all evil? Notice what Jesus said: "When you see these things happening, know that I am near, at the gates." He didn't pin down a date. He didn't give the disciples -- nor us -- a definitive clue about God's timing. ("Of that day or hour, no one knows, not the angels, not even the Son, but only the Father.") So, what was he trying to convey? His nearness! For the past 2000+ years, we have all been part of "this generation" that will not pass away before his Second Coming. It's the generation of Christian humanity, the Body of Christ on Earth in the form of Church community, the generation of children who have been adopted by God the Father through the sacrifice and resurrection of God the Son. The final era (the "last days") of salvation began on the first Pentecost and will continue until the Second Coming of Christ. It is the age of the Holy Spirit, when Christ's earthly ministry is continued through us who are empowered by his Spirit. The lesson in the fig tree is that we can discern when summer is near. In other words, we can discern -- in good times and in bad -- that Jesus is near to us, not in the flesh except during Mass in the Eucharist, but in his Holy Spirit. Jesus is right now at "the gate" of your next move, your next step on the journey to heaven. A gate is meant to be opened so that we can pass through it. Jesus is opening the gate right now for you -- the gate of holiness, the gate of love. Step through it to live in the fullness of the mission he has planned for you here on earth. What problems are you waiting to be rescued from? Is Jesus really taking too long, or is there a bigger, better plan he's fulfilling on your behalf? What do you need to do to become more aware of his nearness, his comfort, his joy and peace to help you endure the long wait? What are the signs that the Church gives us that help us discern the nearness of Christ? REFLEXIÓN DE LAS BUENAS NUEVAS: ¿LA SEGUNDA VENIDA DE CRISTO?

¿Tienes un problema interminable? ¿Dónde está Jesús? En la lectura del Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús nos habla de su Segunda Venida. ¡Y aún no había finalizado su primera venida! Qué confuso debe haber sido para los discípulos. Incluso su confusión creció más, después que Jesús murió, resucitó y ascendió al cielo, pero retrasó su regreso. Ellos le recordaban cuando decía "esta generación" no pasará hasta que todos los eventos de la Segunda Venida hayan sucedido, sin embargo el tiempo pasó, los apóstoles empezaron a morir y Jesús, aún, no ha reaparecido en las nubes. La miseria de vivir en este mundo continúa. Piensa en tu problema interminable. ¿No desearías que Jesús apurase su Segunda Venida y destruyera al mal? Presta atención a lo que dijo Jesús: "Cuando mires que estas cosas suceden, sepan que estoy cerca, a las puertas." El no precisó una fecha. El no le dio a los discípulos - ni a nosotros - una pista definitiva del tiempo de Dios. ("Por lo que se refiere a ese día u hora, nadie lo sabe, ni los ángeles, ni el Hijo, sino solamente el Padre.") ¿Qué era lo que nos quería transmitir? ¡Su cercanía! Durante los últimos 2000+ años, todos hemos sido parte de "esta generación" que no pasará antes de su Segunda Venida. Es la generación de la humanidad Cristiana, el Cuerpo de Cristo en la Tierra en la forma de comunidad Eclesial, la generación de niños que ha sido adoptada por Dios Padre por medio del sacrificio y resurrección de Dios Hijo. La era final (los "últimos días") de la salvación, comenzaron con el primer Pentecostés y continuarán hasta la Segunda Venida de Cristo. Es la era del Espíritu Santo, cuando el ministerio terrenal de Cristo continúa a través de nosotros, quienes estamos capacitados por su Espíritu. La lección de la higuera es que podemos discernir cuando el verano se acerca. En otras palabras, podemos discernir - en los buenos y malos tiempos - que Jesús está cerca de nosotros, no en la carne, excepto durante la Misa en la Eucaristía, sino en su Espíritu Santo. Jesús está en estos momentos "a las puertas" de tu próximo movimiento, tu siguiente paso en la jornada al Cielo. Una puerta está destinada a abrirse para que podamos pasar por ella. Jesús esta abriendo, en este momento, la puerta para ti - la puerta de la santidad, la puerta del amor. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF PROVIDENCE

Our Blessed Mother is celebrated under this title as the Patroness of Puerto Rico. November 19th is the date of this feast; this is the same date on which Puerto Rico was discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage. The date for the feast was set by Pope Paul VI in 1969, almost five centuries after this expedition of Columbus. Prior to this the feast had been observed on January 2nd. In the image of “La Providencia” the infant Jesus sleeps peacefully on the lap of Mary: our Lord experienced the providence and care of our Blessed Mother years before he proclaimed the loving providence of God in his ministry. Our parishioners who were born in Puerto Rico or who are descended from Puerto Rican parents celebrate this patronal feast at the 10:00AM Mass this Sunday, November 18th. They will continue the celebration with a party in the school gymnasium after Mass. All our parishioners are welcome to come.

MASS ON THANKSGIVING DAY Mass on Thanksgiving Day (November 22nd) will be

celebrated at 9AM. We invited you to bring a food item to church on that day. This food will be distributed later in the holiday season.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The Religious Education Program is open from 9:30AM to 2:30PM Monday through Thursday and at night from 6PM to 8:30PM Monday through Wednesday. Please call in advance to make an appointment. There were already, two confirmation meetings for parents this month. These were two important meetings. If you did not attend either one, you will need to call to make an appointment with Mrs. Cobb. There is important packet that is dated and was handed out. Packets will not be handed out to students. The next parent meeting will be in April. There is no class on Monday, November 12th. This is in observance to Veteran’s day. Remember to say, Thank you” to a veteran. The Confirmation class as a Spirit Day retreat on Saturday, November 17th. Please make sure to fill out permission slips in order to receive your t-shirt and go on the retreat. Please continue praying for our students.

FIESTA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA PROVIDENCIA

Nuestra Santísima Madre es celebrada bajo este título como la Patrona de Puerto Rico. El 19º de noviembre es el día de su festividad. Esta es también la fecha en la cual fue descubierta Puerto Rico por Cristóbal Colon, en el 1493, en su segundo viaje. La fecha de esta celebración fue fijada por el Papa Paulo VI en el 1969, casi cinco siglos después de la expedición de Cristóbal Colon. Antes de tal acontecer dicha fiesta era observada el 2º de enero. En la imagen de “La Providencia”, el infante Jesús duerme en paz en las piernas de María: Nuestro Señor experimentó la providencia y cuidado de nuestra Santísima Madre, años antes de proclamar la providencia amorosa de Dios en su ministerio. Nuestros feligreses que nacieron en Puerto Rico, o que descienden de padres puertorriqueños, celebraran esta fiesta patronal en la Misa de las 10:00AM, del domingo, día 18º de noviembre. Ellos van a presentar una fiesta en el gimnasio de la escuela,

después de la Misa. Todos los feligreses están invitados.

MISA DEL DÍA DE ACCIÓN DE GRACIAS La Misa del Día de Acción de Gracias (22 de noviembre) será celebrada a las 9 AM. Le invitamos a traer un artículo de comida a la iglesia ese día. Este artículo será distribuido más adelante durante los días de fiesta venideros.

PROGRAMA DE EDUCACION RELIGIOSA El programa de educación religiosa está abierto de 9:30am hasta 2:30PM, de lunes a jueves y de noche de 6:00PM hasta las 8:30PM de lunes a miércoles.
