St Paul’s Shipwreck A progressive painting by Bob Booth
It’s really important to practice putting paint on badly.
The longer you can go without knowing what you are doing the better.
This is not the time to start thinking.
Especially don’t think about the subject!
It’s the paint that counts.
Why would your motive for doing a painting matter?
Meaning is intrinsic to painting.
Its tempting, but don’t change the rules just because you think you know what it is.
St Paul’s Shipwreck. Sketch.
You have to be ready to lose stuff when you are painting.
Probably time to leave this sketch now; but it is when you are trying to stop that you see more clearly what you should do! I think Elen Kats Cherin noted something similar about the process of composing music.
See how this painting develops.
