St. Paul U.M. Church Mission Statement:

To share Christ’s love

through Worship, Ministry, Mission

and Fellowship

A Line from Jesus’s Prayer for You

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved

me before the creation of the world.”

I’m Praying for You by S. O’Maley Cluff I have a Father; to me He has given A hope for eternity, blessed and true; And soon He will call me to meet Him in heaven, But, oh, that He’d let me bring you with me, too! Refrain: For you I am praying, For you I am praying, For you I am praying, I’m praying for you.

My Prayer for You Ephesians 1:15-19 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe…. Amen.

Good Advice from Our Heavenly Father

…be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Ephesians 6:18

Prayer Wimp

“Lord teach us to pray.” Luke 11:1 Hello, my name is Max. I’m a recovering prayer wimp. I doze off when I pray. My thoughts zig, then zag, then zig again. Distractions swarm like gnats on a summer night. If attention deficit disorder ap-plies to prayer, I am afflicted. When I pray, I think of a thousand things I need to do. I forget the one thing I set out to do: pray. Can you relate? It’s not that we don’t pray at all. We pray some. But wouldn’t we all like to pray … More? Better? Deeper? Stronger? With more fire, faith, or fervency?

Pastor’s Page Cont’d From Our We aren’t the first to struggle. The sign-up sheet for prayer 101 contains some familiar names: the apostles John, James, Andrew and Peter. When one of Jesus’ disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1), none of the others objected. No one walked away saying, “Hey, I have prayer figured out.” The first followers of Jesus needed prayer guidance. When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he gave them a prayer. Not a lecture on pray-er. Not the doctrine of prayer. He gave them a quota-ble, repeatable, portable prayer (Luke 11:1-4). Could you use the same? It seems to me that the prayers of the Bible can be distilled into one. The result is a sim-ple, easy-to-remember, pocket-size prayer;

Father, you’re good. I need help. Heal me and forgive me.

They need help. Thank you. In Jesus name, amen.

Let this prayer punctuate your day. As you begin your morning, Father, you are good. As you commute to work or walk the hallways at school, I need help. As you wait in the grocery line, they need help. Keep this prayer in your pocket as you pass through the day. Don’t think for a minute that he is glar-ing at you from a distance with crossed arms and a scowl, waiting for you to get your prayer life together. Just the opposite. Here I am! “I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.” (Rev.3:20). He is changing me. Yes, I am a prayer wimp, but a recovering prayer wimp. Not where I long to be, but not where I was. My time in prayer has become my time of power. The Pocket Prayer has become a cher-ished friend. Its phrases linger in my thoughts like a favorite melody. My friend, he wants to talk with you. Even now, as you read these words, he taps at the door. Open it. Welcome him in. Let the conversation begin.

from Before Amen: The Power of a Simple Prayer

by Max Lucado

We serve a God of Love, creator of the uni-verse, and yet we have a difficult time seeing it rampant in God’s world. In 1 Jon 4:7-12, we are instructed to love one another because God loves us! Over the years, June has been one of the months associated with love be-cause of weddings often taking place during that month! John is not talking about the spe-cial love a couple have for one another, but rather agape love! Although 1 Corinthians 13 has been used often in gatherings at churches to teach the principles of love, it seems we need to take it off the page and put it into our hearts! The Apostle Paul never stayed in one place very long. It was more important to take the gospel of love into prisons, villages, syna-gogues, before rulers and non-believers. He did all this although he knew there would be a price for obeying God to be faithful in the midst of suffering. He set the stage for the current church to be present in the world preaching, teaching and living out “love” wherever God puts us. St. Paul Church is where God has put many of us who read this. Faithfulness is “scary” because our curriculum is often set up by God when we have accepted Him as our personal Lord and Savior. For Christ, for Paul and for many other believers, the cost of discipleship has been a total self-giving! The call to ministry both challenges and con-firms our faith! The answer from us needs to be, “Here am I, use me!” Watch what we do and receive with His love as you share yours with others. Yours In Christ, Pastor Eddie

Northeastern Food Pantry 4832 N. Sherman St. Ext.

Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania 17347

May, 2018 e-Newsletter

With your support, the Northeastern Food Pantry pro-vided supplemental groceries and personal care items for 233 people during the month of April, 2018. There were 95 families which included 55 children, 114 adults, and 64 seniors. Fighting hunger begins with those who serve. If you are inter-ested in serving as a volunteer at the Northeastern Food Pan-try, we would be delighted to hear from you. The Northeastern Food Pantry relies 100% on volunteers to serve our clients. The time you spend with clients will be meaningful and you will be making a positive contribution to our community. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to help those in need. No experience is necessary. We have a team of welcoming trainers to answer your questions and help you get start-ed. We ask volunteers to sign up for at least one shift per month. And, to sign up for an extra shift or two during the busy Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, when we tempo-rarily add extra Pantry hours to our schedule. Each shift is approximately 4 hours and we are open Monday through Fri-day. You can sign-up to volunteer on the day and shift that meets your schedule. We ask that you sign-up to volunteer 3-4 weeks in advance of the shift you will be working. This allows us to make sure we have volunteers signed-up to work before we begin to fill in our schedule with clients. Our clients schedule an appointment to visit the Pantry, so you will be serving only one family at a time. This allows us to maintain the privacy and dignity of our clients. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. All of our volunteers work in teams of two. So if you have a friend who would like to volunteer with you, we would be happy to train them, too. If not, we will partner you with another volunteer from our team. If you are interested in helping us serve clients, please call Emily Dayhoff at 266-4851 or email your contact information to [email protected]. Thank you for everything you are doing to help the hungry in our community. The work we do could not happen without the support of people like you. Kim Weigle [email protected]

May / June Upper Rooms If you are wishing to sign up to have the Upper Room issues placed in your mailbox, please contact the church office. Upper Rooms are available on the table next to the mailboxes, at church entrances and in the holder on the signup table for your use. The Outreach Committee continues its collection of supplies for the Northeastern Food Pantry. In the month of June, they will be collecting Peanut Butter & Jelly. Place your items in the grocery cart located in the Narthex. Ellen Farcht went home to live with Je-sus on Wednesday, May 16. Ellen has been a member here for 69 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with her fam-ily at this time. A memorial service was held here at St. Paul for her on Fri-day, May 25 at 11:00 AM. Burial was private.

We would like to thank the congregation for the sup-port, prayers and cards that we have received these last several weeks with the passing of my mother, Mary Lou Kudelko. St. Paul has been my church for the last 7 years and I truly treasure the support of a loving, car-ing, friendly and deeply faith-based congregation. It is very comforting to know the church-family is always there no matter what needs a family has. Our sincerest gratitude, Linda and Kim Krotzer and family Thank you to all who remembered Tony and me on our wedding anniversary on May 9 with cards and well-wishes. Thanks also to Pastor Tiffany for remembering me on Administrative Professionals Day. I also want to thank Carolyn Zeigler and Martha Da Cunha for cover-ing the office on Friday, May 18th while I traveled to Seven Springs with Tony so he could accept an award. I’m still trying to use vacation days before they are lost so I also want to thank Shirley Harris and Marsha Sharp for covering the office on Friday, May 25 so that I can have a longer Memorial Day weekend. Love to all, Tony & Karen Heath Thank you to St. Paul U.M. Church for giving 100% for shares of ministry in 2017. By this support, you enable the Denomination and the Susquehanna Conference to present the Gospel and minister to the needs of people in the name of Jesus Christ. Bishop Jeremiah Park

Graduation Recognition Sunday On June 10 during the service, we are planning to recognize our students who are graduating from high school or college. If you have students gradu-ating this spring from high school or college, please notify the church office as to what school, when, degree earned and future plans so that we may recognize them.

During January, February and March, the Northeastern Food Pantry has provided sup-plemental groceries and personal care items to 703 people from 258 families. This would not be possible without donors like you. We appreciate your support and want to thank you for fighting hunger with us. Together we are changing lives by making sure everyone has enough to eat. Thank you, Northeastern Food Pantry Thank you again for your constant donations of sheets, tablecloths, fabric and quilting sup-plies for the Samaritans Sewing Group. We made our 4o,ooth blanket in April! (it was blessed at a special service on May 6. All of our blankets are blessed before we deliver them.) Because of the generosity of folks like you, we are able to continue our ministry of providing blankets for the needy in this coun-try and abroad. Many thanks and God Bless! Katie Royston
