The Jubilee of Mercy will close on the Feast of Christ the King, November 20. Please use the remaining days to cooperate with God’s grace in receiving and showing mercy to the world. Call for an appointment for confession, and make a “pilgrimage” to our Holy Doors or others to receive the Plenary Indulgence for yourself or a departed loved one.

November 6-12 is National Vocation Awareness Week. Think of the young people in your lives and encourage them, first of all, in their faith, and then to pray that God will guide them in their lives. Consider asking them to find out more about being a priest, deacon or religious brother or sister. Remind them that marriage is a beautiful vocation, and so is dedicated single life. May God bless each of us in our vocations.

Catholics will celebrate National Bible Week from November 13-19. You can learn more about this at http://www.usccb.org/news/2016/16-137.cfm. Every year I think we should have a special way of celebrating this event, but other things always seem to interrupt. So this year I want to invite you to an informal gathering in the Rectory Meeting Room at 7:00 pm – bring a Bible with you. Meanwhile, find your Bible, dust it off and look it over. Hold it and think of what a beautiful gift God has given us in the words of the Bible and in the Word made Flesh, Jesus Christ.

Jesus, teach us to be “Merciful like the Father.”

With love and prayers,

Father Bob Edwards

Father Bob’s Corner .

Dear Friends,

“…for to [God].all are alive.”“…for to [God].all are alive.”“…for to [God].all are alive.”“…for to [God].all are alive.” Luke 20:38

We just celebrated the Feast of All Saints and the Commemoration of All Souls. We celebrate and honor those who have died because, for God all people are alive. Isn’t that amazing?! Our poor little minds might have difficulty thinking about all the people on earth right now, let alone all those that have ever lived. God, the author of life, has greater life to share with us, the taste of which is in the Eucharist we celebrate and receive.

Tuesday is Election Day. We continue to pray for our nation, all those who are voting and all the candidates and issues. We pray that God will guide us as we vote. We especially ask God to bless whomever may be elected President.

Parishioners of St. Paul and St. Patrick Parishes who are 55 years old and older (!) are invited to a luncheon meeting on Wednesday, November 16, at 11:30 am, in the Dale Shaffer Library on South Lundy. Those planning to attend need to call the St. Paul Office with your names (and let us know if you need a ride). Those who cannot attend because they are homebound are encouraged to call, so we can know who you are and keep you posted on how things develop. This event (and hopefully they become a regular event) is being put together by an ad hoc committee and members of Parish Council. We thank them for their work and hope to see you there.

VOTE - Tuesday, November 8th

FORMING CONSCIENCES FOR FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP - Catholics Care. Catholics Vote. "We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern." - Pope Francis, 9/16/13 The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship (en Español), our teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in

the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order. Read Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States (en Español), which provides a framework for Catholics in the United States.

Extending a Big Thank You!

I want to personally thank all the students, families, volunteers (and parishioners) who contributed toward the success of the 10 week raffle fundraiser! We sold all 1,000 tickets and the profit from this fundraiser will help fund the fine arts at St. Paul School! The weekly raffle drawings, sponsored by the St. Paul Home and School Association, started the week of October 16th and will end on Christmas Day! Good luck to everyone who purchased tickets! Thank you again! Teresa Dyke, Chairperson

We are happy to introduce you to our FIVE CANDIDATES in the R.C.I.A. process:

DAN MINCKS: Dan and his wife, Julie, have two daughters: Lily, 5 and Allison 4. When asked why he has decided to begin the RCIA process, his answer is, “I feel I’m being called to this Faith.”

DAVID FITCH: Dave has lived in Salem all his life and his wife, Peggy, is a staff member at St. Paul’s. Dave’s family is Catholic and Dave says that actually “I’ve always believed in the Catholic Faith.”

JOHN MANCUSO: John and his wife, Janet, have been married for 22 years and have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. He enjoys listening to EWTN and Livinig Bread Radio throughout the day and looks forward to our gatherings on Sundays after the 11:15 Mass.

MICHAEL LEE MOORE, Jr.: He and his wife, Cenecia, have 4 girls and 2 boys and have been married for 18 years. Mike says, “I married a Catholic and raised my kids Catholic. (I am) intrigued by the history of the church.”

BARBARA HENDRICKS: Barbara is our only woman candidate; although she was baptized Catholic, much of her more recent life was spent caring for her husband, who recently passed away. Now she feels she has time to focus on renewing her Faith. Please keep these people in your prayers – welcome them warmly. Thank you.

Diocesan & Local Events – November 6, 2016

Save the Date: Wednesday, November 9th - 6:30 pm The Family Prayer Hour

Building the Domestic Church St. Patrick’s Church, Leetonia

The family is the first & primary place where we experience & are formed in our Catholic Faith. By building upon our current programs & activities, the Knights of Columbus continues to promote the family as a “domestic church” where husbands & wives, parent & children, grow in their knowledge

& practice of the Catholic Faith. In order to perform its important mission of evangelization, each family needs to find support in the sacramental life of the parish.

Veterans Day - November 11th

While those who died are also remembered,

Veterans Day is the day set aside

to thank and honor ALL those

who served honorably in the

military — in wartime or

peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day

is largely intended to thank

LIVING veterans for their

service, to acknowledge that

their contributions to our

national security are appreciated,

and to underscore the fact that all those who served —

not only those who died — have sacrificed and done

their duty.

The Feast of Life

Debuted at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the Feast of Life reminds us of several parables mentioned in Luke’s Gospel and invites us once again to hear and experience the stories of Jesus. In this musical by Marty Haugen/Gary Daigle, a diverse multi-generational group of adults and children from St. Jude Church in Columbiana gather to retell the parables in Luke’s Gospel. The cast tells and sings of “The Good Samaritan”, “The Prodigal Son”, “The Journey to Emmaus”, and other parables. We celebrate the 50th anniversary of St. Jude Church as we present:

The Feast of Life: Stories from the Gospel of Luke St. Jude Church in Columbiana Fr. Christopher Cicero, Pastor Sunday, November 13th at 3:00 pm, in the church

(Admission is free. A free-will offering will be available to defray production expenses.)

GOOD THOUGHT

“What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?”

George Eliot

National Vocations Awareness Week Nov. 6-12

As the seven brothers from the Book of Maccabees were willing to give their life to follow God, so we are called to give our lives to his will. Is His will that you serve as a religious brother or sister, deacon or as a priest? If you know God is calling you, contact Fr. Christopher Luoni (330) 744-8451, or by email at: [email protected].
