She will be supported by Bris- bane’s Irish bluegrass fiddler extraordinaire George Jackson, session bassist Kenny Glaze and rock metal power-ballad drum- mer Tim Mariner. Expect a fantastic three-hour Celtic-inspired set from this four-piece band. Dress to the green theme to win more than $300 in best- dressed prizes so expect to see flame-haired leprechauns, lady lucks and groups of green party- goers. A public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, St Patrick’s Day is also widely celebrated by the Irish Diaspora a group of emigrants and their descendants living out- side of Ireland in coun- tries such as the UK, the USA and Australia. The Diaspora con- tains more than 80 mill- ion people — more than 13 times the population Ireland itself. It has been estimated that around 35 per cent of today’s Australian citizens have Irish an- cestry. Many historians have cited that the Irish have made a significant con- tribution to the devel- opment of Australia and the Australian identity. Managing director Craig Sawyer said: ‘‘Come and enjoy this St Patrick’s Day in the relaxed and friendly at- mosphere of Crackers’ Lounge. ‘‘We have taken over this business with a view to providing Alice with the best service. ‘‘We will be offering a wide range of wines and cold beers, especially for people after work, and meals for lunch and dinner. We will have main meals, a tapas- style menu and desserts that include cakes. There will be a wide selection.’’ As a special treat for St Patrick’s Day there will be Irish specials on food and beverage, along with festive give- aways. Mr Sawyer said Alice Springs deserved serv- ices of the highest stan- dard.
