U.S. Bishops Updated Voting Guide for Catholics The March 3 primary elections are just around the corner. How should a Catholic vote? The U.S. bishops have updated their guide to formation of conscience for participation in public life, “Forming Consciences for Public Life,” and have produced a short video. The updated document and the video, as well as links to resources for specific issues such as immigration and respect for life, are available on the Faithful Citizenship page of the archdiocesan website, sfarch.org/faithful-citizenship. The six-minute USCCB Faithful Citizenship video is also divided into four shorter videos. So far, it is available in Spanish, English, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. To access all the videos, visit the USCCB website: usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship.

Lent begins this week on Ash Wednesday, February 26, a day of Fast and Abstinence. Masses will be celebrated at: 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. (school children will attend), & 7:00 p.m.

LENTEN REGULATIONS: The following regulations are in place for Abstaining and Fasting during Lent: ABSTINENCE: Everyone fourteen years of age and older is bound to abstain from meat on ASH WEDNESDAY, the FRIDAYS of Lent and GOOD FRIDAY. FAST: Everyone eighteen years of age and older but under the age of sixty is also bound to fast on ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY. On these two days, the law of fast allows only one full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food during the day, so long as this does not constitute another full meal. Drinking liquids during the day is permitted. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. In doubt concerning fast or abstinence, a priest assigned to pastoral ministry or confessor should be consulted. In the spirit of penance, the faithful should not lightly excuse themselves from this obligation.
