Year 4 Home Learning Timetable - Week beg. 18.5.20 Weekly focus: SPAG & Statistics Layout guidance: Our vision for the home learning layout is that resources for lessons will be clearly labelled underneath the planning for each day. Where some resources are unable to be placed in this document, you will have to open another document. There is no obligation to print the planning but please feel free if that helps you. Maths resources will be in a separate document and the answer sheet will also be separate from this so that the children cannot see. If the planning says ‘see below’ then the resource will be on this document. If the planning says ‘see attached document’, please refer to the correct document for that subject. Message from Y4 teachers: We hope that learning at home is an enjoyable experience. It is important that we remind you to simply try your best. If you are finding something particularly difficult, move on and come back to it if you have time. If you find something is taking ‘too long’ or you are ready to move on, then please do so. We understand it might be quite difficult to understand something when you are not in a classroom with many more resources to help you and so all we can ask is that you try your best because that is good enough. Parents: If you are looking for extra activities, we would like to direct you to the school’s website where there is a host of websites and resources. A suggested afternoon activities table can also be found at the end of this document. This is a page that has been carefully put together by the Year 4 team that links with our topics to provide extra learning opportunities. A reminder of our Year 4 non-negotiables: Capital letters and full stops. Commas after fronted adverbials. Neat and cursive handwriting. Conjunctions Commas after subordinate clauses. Correctly spelt common exception words Use of paragraphs Proof-read for errors in spelling and punctuation. STEM Challenge! Answer from last week: 256 Louise is thinking of a 4 digit number. Layout guidance:Our vision for the home learning layout is that resources for lessons will be clearly labelled underneath the planning for each day. Where some resources are unable to be placed in this document, you will have to open another document. There is no obligation to print the planning but please feel free if that helps you. Message from Y4 teachers:We hope that learning at home is an enjoyable experience.

Answer from last week: 256

Louise is thinking of a 4 digit number. The number lies between 4,000 and 5,000. All the digits are different. The digit in the tens place is twice the digit in the thousands place. The sum of the digits is 24. The number is odd. What could the number be?

Reading

Read a book of your own choosing for 15 minutes. This is a chance to read for pleasure and get lost in the story.

SpiritualReflection

For our Christian families: say the Lord's Prayer.

Last week, the UK celebrated 200 years since the birth of Florence Nightingale. Watch these two videos to learn more about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, two nurses who dedicated their lives to caring for others.

Mary Seacole https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/history-ks2-mary-seacole-ep1/z72prj6

How can you care for someone this week? You might care for someone emotionally even if you cannot see them at this time.

Spelling (9:10-9:30)Words ending in –gue are usually pronounced as hard ‘g’. The ‘u’ and ‘e’ are silent. These words are generally French in origin.

Look at the sentences on the page below and copy them into your Home Learning book. Look for words that share the same spelling pattern – select one word from each sentence and underline it.

Write a definition for each of the words you have underlined in your Home Learning book.

English (9:30 – 10:30)

L.O: I can use my reading skills to answer questions.

Task:Please complete the Reading Quiz on ‘Why were books chained up?’ and ‘Daedalus and Icarus’. Most children should be able to access the Year 4 quiz, but we have also provided some alternative ones, if your child finds these too challenging. The children can write their answers in their Home Learning book if you do not have access to a printer.

‘Meet the Vet’, ‘My Little Town’ and ‘Biggles Gets Stuck’.

‘The Railway Children’. Please note: there is a separate reading and answer booklet.

SpiritualReflection

For today and tomorrow’s Spiritual Reflection, we want you to think back to all of our school’s Christian values and the stories we have looked at and the messages we have thought about during our Home Learning.

Your task is to create a piece of art, a short poem or a short message to others by choosing either your favourite value or story. You can send your work to Mr Murphy on the Year 6 email address ([email protected]).

Complete an open word sort, grouping the cards according to criteria that you choose (e.g. spelling patterns, initial letters, number of syllables etc).

Sort the words again according to the sound just before the –gue ending. Which letters are they?

English (9:30 – 10:30)
